Illaoi is a doomed champion

She is basically Darius pre rework in that she is really good at beating and stomping people who dont know how to play against her, but once you get to higher skill levels her kit offers almost nothing to be competitive outside her E.

She has no reliable CC.

Her gap closer isnt that great of a gap closer.

Her damage is unreliable. If she has no tentacles around her she cant do much, if she has 3 or more tentacles, she will do a lot.

Her ult being useful is heavily reliant on the enemy's poor positioning.

Out of all the juggernauts, Illaois utility is the worst in exchange for more aoe damage.

She needs a rework.

You're missing the point of this champion. In the current meta 5v5 all out team fights is what wins/breaks games. Illaoi is ment to excel at this. Her laning phase and lack of cc is the only thing balancing her. If you play her ultimate right, you can 1v5 a team fight. IMO she is one of the strongest 5v5 teamfight champs out there. Even as support, if you land a good ultimate in mid/late game you can get an insta penta (i've done this multiple times). I think she is really fun and amazing to play. I've watched a couple high elo games with players like Gamsu playing her and they carry the games single handedly because anything the other team groups and a teamfight pops off it's gg. I think she is great and synergizes well with aoe comps (amummu is god with her),

I like playing her, just hate how her kit is.

Like yesterday in the early game i got ganked by elise and 100-0 her in less than a second.

Come late game I couldnt do any damage reliably either due to cc or no tentacles.

Well she's more of a mid game champion.

However, her E might offer enough to be just enough competitive to have on a team considering, if she is in an AoE Wombo comp, she can be effectively increasing her targets damage taken by 25-45%+. Not to mention if its Magic Damage AoE, it also offers hybrid damage since the damage shared is physical.

Imagine Orianna and Illaoi.

Sadly this was the case with her kit. She's a gateway champion.

I'll probably still play her when my team needs a carry (rare, but happens) and I'm in top lane. I usually focus on CS when I play her anyway. Cull works well with her Q.

The reason i stop playing her is the same as ekko, they have great hidden damage, but hard to land or use. Enemies can stop their damage out put by simply stepping back a bit. That throws of 90% of their game

I think her true strength is that she's a tanky top laner who can seriously and very very harshly punish someone who "needs" to back.

Put her in the right team comp and you can turn a retreating enemy into an asset or force them to run over a much longer period of time. Whether you can capitalize on those is up to you. I see it being very powerful in the right circumstances.

She is meant to be a sieging/dive deterrent juggernaut. Think like the Darius siege comps C9 rolled out during Worlds group stages, but with a Juggernaut who is even better suited to the task, whose team can deal 40% current HP of a defender if she lands her E and who tentacle slam dunks your team when they try to force a fight.

That is what she brings to an organized team - Group-and-siege potential.
