Why is darius constantly banned?

Xavanic··3 votes·5,002 views

Outside of his OK late game I don't see a reason to ban him, hes ridiculously easy to counter with a ton of champs, but hes just consistently banned, so whats the deal? am I missing something?

Because he's a low elo nightmare until people learn how to play against him he's going to have a decent ban rate

25% ban rate in plat+ 8% ban rate in diamond+ 0% ban rate in master+

meanwhile lulu has: 33% ban rate in plat+ 50% ban rate in diamond+

biase?

Xavanic2 votes

Lulu i can understand why her ban rates so high, shes on janna level of support atm Lol why did this get downvoted? lulus op right now and i dont think anyone can deny that

Maybe because you compared her to Janna? xD

right srry lulu was stronger then janna

He is a pain in the ass to deal with He is the Yasuo of the early game

he really isnt unless you are just god awful at laning and dont understand that he needs to hit you 5 times to get any kind of real damage off. pick Kennen , he is 100x more cancerous than darius any god damn day of the weak, AND he can team fight on top of that. also, as long as a Vayne goes even neutral in lane then darius mind aswell not even exist.

the main reason he is banned is because people like to pick champs darius directly counters top lane.Nasus Nautilus Yasuo etc...

WoonStruck4 votes

Because once he has T1 boots and a Phage, if you didn't already get a significant lead, laning phase is already over for you.

I doubt you've seen any decent Darius players, tbh.

Xavanic1 votes

i can play him decently, but everyone else i see is either retarded, or kled is a super hard counter to darius

Eternal Torment4 votes

the main issue with darius is that he has ridiculous 1v5 power, an insane midgame spike where the decisive steps happen for whether or not a game is won, and he can shut down almost every existing hypercarry in his early phase aswell as offer strong counterplay to full lethality assassins and toplaners, like Pantheon as exampled, and does fare well against every brawler like garen and fiora illaoi Olaf you Name it he Counters it. Darius is in a decent spot but he is strong at all stages of the game not because of his initial power but because of his ridiculously effective function to Counter everything that scales into the lategame while scaling into it himself. He has a consistent powerspike throughout the game and is squishy himself earlygame but that doesnt matter because he kills you before you can kill him, lategame same issue different factors, he is tanky as heck but still kills your team faster than they can manage 2 people. Yes he gets kyted easily and has no engages and is fairly slow in comparison to other toplaners but if he has just one good peel then, once more, it doesnt matter, because the chances are that you are dead if you do not by garuantee spend a flash to escape.

long story short darius is consistently banned because of how dangerous he can be to your comp regardless of how he is, op or up

Xavanic1 votes

if he gets shut down early game his mid game spike isn't even noticeable as he has to choose to skip BC and do no dmg, or build BC and get blown up before he can do anything

Eternal Torment2 votes

true, his midgame spike depends on how good he manages the laning phase, if darius gets camped it is an easy for him to fall out of the equation but the necessary amount of camping you Need to do to make sure darius STAYS shut down would for the jungler mean at least 10 if not 15 minutes of neglecting the other lanes which in turn could risk the game otherwise, so even as a bait darius could carry pretty much. Because of his ultimate darius can if even once given the opportunity start a terrific comeback, all he Needs is one last hit with it in a brawl to trigger his passive might of noxus, AA someone once with the W then Q and ult again and thats the next dead Person there. even if he was 0/12 and didnt even finish boots.

Xavanic1 votes

jungler generally just needs to put darius behind, then most competent top laners can zone him out and deny him enormous amounts of CS, that only takes like 2 or 3 ganks

Frightning3 votes

If you're a melee top laner, your laning phase is going to be hell if you're facing Darius top. Other than that, he's quite manageable (and, curiously, most of the people I see actual play him are honestly pretty bad with him, I don't get it, he's not even hard to play, but they are bad. Used to be Riven was like that too, but I'm seeing more and more good ones these days; they must be learning from Adrian and co.). That's why you see Darius bans.

Xavanic1 votes

I c, i never have really had issues with him, i just kill him over and over after level 2 as kled or yorick

LyingOnLine2 votes

Those are Darius counters, though.

Arcus Diabolus3 votes

He's a pain in the ass for any melee top laner. If I were planning on playing Riven, for example, I'd rather not be forced to dance around him and try to and get as much farm as I can without getting killed. Same goes for Garen, but if I banned Garen instead of Darius, then they'd typically predict I was picking Riven and pick Darius preemptively.

Naturally, I've been forced to learn to play under this matchup or ban him as a result.

DemainaNyx3 votes

He's a bully top laner from my understanding. I don't play top lane though so I can't say for certain.

He's one of those champions that builds BC and then full tank and can 1v5 (I've actually seen this). And since his passive can easily be applied to entire teams once he gets 5 stacks on someone, it's really easy for him to get those 5 stacks on the tank, then flash Q into the backline and go on an ult fest.

nachocheeseeeee3 votes

He is a lane bully who is easy to use and whose numbers are disgustingly high that he just proceeds on building tank. Thus he has all the damage and tankiness while maintaining relevancy in team fight.

Xavanic1 votes

he cant really do much in team fights with a half intelligent support unless your teams severely behind

Yuzuki Yukarin2 votes

He's just annoying to play against, that's all there is to it. Some people don't want to deal with certain annoying factors. Realistically, assassins, junglers and assassin junglers tend to attract far more overall bans than do "annoyances."

d4rkshock2 votes

He counters pantheon and fiora who are top picks ATM. He also has nasty damage mid game and gets pentadunks. He's bad against split pushers but good against these lethality top lanners except Zed. The instructions on his q are probably the same as what you would see in a manual for bongos since it's a circle. (Fucking hit them). Oh so that's where I went wrong. Shows bongos taped to face. He just has so much damage and tank stats. Ult with 6 stacks at 45% HP will kill. Then the CD is reset for 20 seconds then he taps somebody one-time for a full hemorage passive and reduces them tho 45% HP and dunks another. Imo, it's what champions are being played and he's annoying to play against if your not a splitpushwr or your not ranged. If I'm going pantheon or wukong, I always ban since he counters. I can also pick him and if banned I'll go wukong or pantheon.

LOL YOU ARE RETARDED.

RainXBlade2 votes

The thing is, Darius is a very binary champion. He's very oppressive to face in melee match-ups, but can often lose a lot of ranged match-ups if the the ranged user is very good at managing his champion. Every melee match-up against Darius is often decided if Darius hits his enemy laner with the blade in his Q. If he doesn't, it often provides a window of opportunity for the enemy laner to fight back. However in extended trades, most people would lose to Darius, that's why skirmishers like Yasuo or Riven can win against him if played right. However, some melee match-ups are actually bad for Darius like Tryndamere (one crit against him and he's potentially forced out of the lane) and Xin (if he hooks him, Xin can just easily W & Q to duel him and potentially force him to back off. If Darius tries to go for a Q, Xin will just E in and go in on him.)

Like what Dr Sona said, he's a nightmare in low elo because people don't know how to fight or keep him at arm's length, but is rarely seen at high elo because people know how to fight him (or kite him if ranged).

Xavanic1 votes

i c, i never have issues with him when playing kled, lol, i guess its because of kleds amazing ability to skirmish

RainXBlade2 votes

Well you do have Skaarl to thank for having an advantage via higher HP early.

Xavanic1 votes

yeah i dunno, maining kled has won me tons of lanes that i normally hate, only one it doesnt work against is fiora and i dont think anyone can truely lane against fiora outside of pantheon

RainXBlade1 votes

Well, Fio does negate Skaarl via her passive. Her passive hits like a truck the longer the game goes and the more HP you stack.

Xavanic1 votes

I build kled as a fighter, not a tank though, but even in lane, fiora feels impossible to deal with

Wînter Fox2 votes

Because no matter what happens he does stupid amounts of damage while (basically) going full tank. You can beat him in lane, deny him cs, have your jungler camp him, make him cry and hump the turret, etc. etc. etc. it doesn't matter. He's going to get ridiculously tanky and it only takes one slip up from your ADC/a teleport bot lane and oopsies Darius is dunking mofos left and right and getting a penta every team fight.

Xavanic1 votes

i dunno, i feel if hes doing that, your teams just bad, i feel hes way to easy to kite

Wînter Fox3 votes

Agreed, but when you're below Platinum a.k.a 90% of League players someone is bound to make a mistake and start giving Darius free kills.

Glîtchy2 votes

I only ban him because even when I play a Darius "counter" he somehow destroys me anyway

l Dárius l1 votes

ive been noticing an influx of bans against darius when the enemy teamcomp puts the game in his favor and when the enemy team comp counters him very hard darius seems to be left open leading to a decrease in my winrate by a lot more than i would like.

LyingOnLine1 votes

Maybe they're planning on playing a character for whom facing Darius' faceroll lane bullying is undesirable.

Or maybe they're tired of him having ridiculous early power that doesn't fall off nearly fast enough.

Or maybe they're just tired of seeing Darius picked every other game.

Maddened King 1 votes

idk, players don't understand how to play against him?

Xavanic1 votes

yeah, thats the only reason i see to him being banned

Maddened King 1 votes

He really isn't hard to play against. If he first picks Darius it means you pick a champion like Jayce, Kennen, any range champion or Renekton. If you see the top lane ban is a Range champion. It usually means he wants to play a juggernaut champion and even if you pick a bad matchup against him. You simply farm under tower and dodge the attempted Q harasses and ping for a jungle assist. If he isn't killing you in lane, he is ultimately losing his lane.

But also, I can see why he is banned at low ELO. Since the match-up is highly dependent on the jungler (if the match-up is bad). At low ELO, I can see that junglers are not reliable. Thus he is very hard to deal with. The same with Jayce. If you are getting bullied and you have a bad jungler. It makes the lane harder. At higher ELO, you usually have decent junglers who see a free kill at top with a laner like Darius pushed up.

Xavanic1 votes

Yeah, juggarnauts also lose to most fighters/skirmishers
