League matches are like bad poker tournements

Any of you play tournament poker?

Well, if you do, you know that there is a reason that some people can consistently place high in big WSOP tournaments and the like--the blind structure and the duration of the levels.

Meaning, as the tournament progresses, players still have enough chips to make plays, and recover from mistakes. It doesn't just turn into an all-in fest. Hence, good players are rewarded for their better play, surviving bad beats and all.

However, smaller tournaments will have awful blind structures and very short levels--15, 30, maybe 30 minutes Possibly 40 minutes for some of the bigger weekend events where the buy in is around $240. But that is still a far cry from the 120 minute levels you see in bigger better events.

I feel like League is currently the equivalent of a shitty poker tournament--there is very little cushion to recover from a mistake, and as the game goes long, it often comes down to who fucks up first. Just like in a bad poker tournament when the blinds are super high, on player gets AQ, the other gets AJ and all the money goes all in, and its all decided in one hand.

Changing this would of course mean that games on average would run longer than they do now. Most of my matches are over at 30-40 minutes. But I would much rather have that be even as high as 45-55 minutes if it means that overall, if you play well, you will come out ahead more often than not, instead of the crap shoot that the matches are now.

But what do I know.
