My level 20 friend is paired against a Diamond player

He's only duo with one level 30, and he doesn't play ranked.

Honestly, that is fucking absurd. The enemy has a Plat and Diamond vs someone who is level 20 and still relatively new at the game.

EDIT: When I was loading in (I'm spectating since they started right before I got on) it said the Vel'Koz was Plat, but that was last season, him and their Pantheon are both Diamond V. Oh yeah, and my low level friend is the 22, didn't realize he ranked up a couple times. http://imgur.com/TrCiJzj

Then apparently you're both really good or something.

I have a friend who constantly went against 2 diamonds and 3 platinums or something while level 27 going solo up until 30. It sucks, yeah. I don't think you can get around it once you're 3 levels away from 30, but as to duo-ing, having a smurf to play with your buddy is really the way to do it quite honestly. Otherwise, that happens.

If he is duoing with any higher level people that is expected. If he has just started, is by himself, and is in fact level 20 he should not be going against that. If this is the case provide a match history.

Here is what probably happening: People's normal MMR is measured different from ranked MMR.

People who play mostly ranked (aka diamond players usually) have lower Normal MMR._ Resulting in lower than appropriate(for their skill level) normal MMR_

People who play mostly normals (aka your level 30 friend) has higher normal MMR. Resulting in inflated normal MMR

Conclusion : When both these conditions are met a person who has never played ranked can vs a diamond player who plays normals maybe once or twice weekly.

Now since your friend was duo with a level 30 the client tries equal out MMR for both teams and this results in significantly higher normal MMR total which will be harder for your less experienced friend. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOUR LEVEL 20 FRIEND LEVELS ALONE OR WITH A FRIEND SMURF.
