Can we Hope more Dodge spells in the future?

Meddler please answer to this, Dodge as a stats might be overbearing because it's permanent, but what about dodge in spells like jax's counter strike or shen's W? needing a window of time to use its power.

I expect we'll do other dodge abilities with limited uptime at some point in the future. It'll be a tool we offer sparingly though, not a common thing on kits.

O_O metal gear-esque "!" appears when that was the exact verbiage used to describe knock ups

and no dodge chance (just 100%) i assume?

RiotMeddler3 votes

I'd expect so.

Edit for clarity: I'd expect any future uses of dodge to be effects that granted 100% dodge.

You would expect dodge chance, or my assumption?

Why? Is dodge something that's actually been seen as something fun to play against? I was under the assumption that the reason we haven't seen much of it was because it isn't very healthy for the game. A lot of people find that to be one of the most annoying aspects of Jax / Fiora, both of which being overwhelmingly banned at the moment.

who is annoyed by jax?

Anyone who has ever played against a half-decent one.

never was annoyed by jax, except when he was op like every op champ

Lucifer2 votes

You mean like when he averages around a 60% win rate in plat+ when you have a decent number of games on him? http://champion.gg/champion/Jax

He's also banned 65% of the time at high elo, so there's that.

that has nothing to do with dodge

We were discussing frustrations with Jax, and they made the comment "Who is annoyed by Jax" and clearly a large number of people are.

on what? 30 millions player in the world? when jax press E you aren't forced to fight him

Lucifer2 votes

dodge isn't the only thing that currently makes him overwhelming. A good Jax will know how to make the game hell for you, which is why there's a huge discrepancy between low elo for him and high elo. You do eventually have to fight him. If you leave a Jax to free farm, good luck.

end of the discussion then, dodge has nothing to do with jax being op

Except it does, and they've had to change how his dodge works multiple times because of how strong it is within his kit. It's just not the only thing that makes him strong at the moment, and the pre-season patch allowed Jax to become very overbearing in the right hands.

In fact, Riot has spent a lot of time removing dodge effects from the game: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Dodge

Which is partially why I think it's kind of counter intuitive we're seeing so many new iterations of it which are just as frustrating.

It USED to be back when dodge was a stat. It basically meant Jax could 1v5 in the enemy fountain.

don't talk about what you don't know, jax used to have 100% dodge permanently because dodge used to stack, riot easily fixed it by make it unique, then they gave true strike to the fontain.

the problem with jax in 2011 is that true strike was WEAK as fuck, sword of the divine was purchased on nobody. the other problem was RNG, until jax had his E at lvl 5 his dodge chance was low making his E relying on RNG, they should have fixed it by giving him passivly 100% dodge for 1 attack with a cooldown

riot buffed jax's E in the preseason, which is what made jax become overbearing once again

I'd expect so.

but what if instead of 25% dodge you code it as "dodge every 4 attacks"? it remove the RNG, there is already a problem with jax's counterstrike because since it's 100% dodge nobody will fight you and you force the players to use it as a stun. Why don't you change counterstrike to a passive tht dodge every X seconds an autoattack?

If more dodging abilities are potentially forthcoming, I feel extra motivated to clarify at this point in time - another Rioter here says only large monster attacks are dodged for consistency with Pantheon's block. But since it's a duration-based ability, wouldn't it make more sense to be consistent with Jax's counterstrike instead and negate all incoming basic attacks?

Champion Skin1 votes

Wow that's really weird and silly having it not block small monsters... and yeah it is clearly closer to Jax E not Pantheon passive

Jax E and Shen W both block all attacks for a limited time Pantheon blocks 1 attack (every time he builds up his passive)

Nagoh Shan1 votes

I asked in the shen thread, but they were unable to answer. Maybe you could.

There isn't much clarity or consistency in what is dodged, blocked, or blinded.

I made a thread here describing the inconsistencies:

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/i0h2qxq4-riot-wondering-if-you-could-provide-some-clarity-about-on-hit-applying-abilities

How exactly are these supposed to interact, can you bring more consistency to the effects (like braum and yas vs projectiles), and can you tell us which abilities shen's dodge will be able to negate?

That ability could shut down certain champs like Fiora hard, but if it's like Jax's dodge, Yas will ignore it which may cause confusion.

To be fair the original mechanic was % chance to dodge vs the current mechanic which is essentially temporary invincibility to basic attacks. The current mechanic is not random and therefore still fits their goals of balance and transparency.

they should do the same with tryndacrit, 100% crit in a moment so the mechanic isn't random

Make it so he has enough crit left so that item 3508 isn't a waste of crit.

After all, we wouldn't wanna waste stats building item 3508 on Tryndamere ;)

tryndamere doesn't use mana and doesn't need cdr
