so what was the point of removing "oppressor" mastery?

SwiftKitten88··2 votes·996 views

Champions either have crowd control abilities or they don’t, making Oppressor a pretty ‘yes or no’ mastery. How you play your champion makes little difference when the only question is whether you can do something or not, so we’re removing Oppressor in favor of something more flexible.

lets add "courage of the colossus" and remove "strength of ages" this will fix everything...

Courage of the Colossus

Giving initiators a survivability tool in the moment they need it most: diving into the enemy team.

Gain a shield for 7% (+7% for each nearby enemy champion) of your maximum health for 4 seconds after hitting an enemy champion with hard crowd control (30 second cooldown)

You're taking his quote out of context. There were only two choices in this tier - Bounty Hunter or Oppressor. Both increased your damage by a %. So if you didn't have CC you obviously have no other choice but to get Bounty Hunter. And if you did have CC you picked Oppressor for the reliable increase. This was a forced choice that had nothing to do with playstyle.

Courage of the Colossus on the other hand is all about choice and playstyle. It isn't just "If you have CC you pick this" It's more of a question of are you the type of player/champion to jump in the middle of teamfights and disrupt everything. It opens up the Resolve tree as a choice even for the non-tanky dive-in champions like Fiddlesticks Diana XinZhao. But if you're more 1v1 oriented you get Grasp, or for small skirmishes you get Bond. It's a question of how you play the game.

Riot didn't remove Oppressor because it had a CC requirement - that was only part of the story. Oppressor in that tier forced a choice on you while Courage of the Colossus gives you options.

ok... so what is the option for jungle nidalee? going full resolve tree? there isn't one..

Thunderlord's, Stormraider's, or DFT. Why would you even touch the Resolve tree as Nid anymore? You don't need defense when you're chucking spears

the majority of nid's damage come her her takedown.. not her spear.. to deal any sort of decent damage u need to pounce in.. so if u get 1 shot. you;re worthless

This sounds more like a Nidalee problem than a CoC problem.

"it's all about choice and playstyle" yeah sure...

Tank champion with hard CC ? CoC no matter what. Tank champion with no hard CC ? Grasp. Tank support champion? Bond with wovs'.

"Choice"

"Tank champion with hard CC ? CoC no matter what."

Volibear? Renekton? Skarner? Sejuani? Cho'gath? Singed?

There's a bunch of tanky champions with hard CC that may or may not take CoC depending on how they play. You can easily play a more AP Cho/Singed or Bruiser Renekton/Voli. "Choice" indeed.

G0dot1 votes

Then you're not playing tanky and you'll last 2 seconds in teamfights. So yeah , "choice".

Courage of the Colossus is cool, yo.

I put it on Master Yi and win games like free money.

Shields for CC > EZ wins > EZ life

Marshbouy3 votes

master yi doesn't have hard CC...? I might have just taken a worm tho tbh

Derp R Us1 votes

Master Yi doesn't have any CC, that's the joke!

ShinkoMinori3 votes

Was an awful one.

Derp R Us2 votes

Well, I tried. Gank gone wrong.

Marshbouy1 votes

That was a super hypocritical move. Now any tank will take COC (heh) if they have even one hard CC ability... COC will have to be gutted for mastery diversity to be implemented again.

Ralanr1 votes

The only reason I don't really agree is that Oppressor was a damage amp while CoC (oh my) is a survivability tool.

I agree that it's really strong and will get nerfed. Especially how it makes champions like Volibear even more unkillable while he can kill you easily.

and i realized that OP was basically lying through his teeth.

They're trying to balance it around unreliability, like a lot of new things. The issue of doing that is that when things work out they're RIDICULOUSLY powerful, and when they don't you feel absolutely dreadful. One of those recurring things Riot's been fond of as of late.

Coc might be brain dead choice now, because it is so strong, but after a patch or two I expect lots of champions having actual choice here. I.e. as a Naut you rarely get lots of shield, because you cast for afar, so if it would be just a little Less insane, it would actually contest for the slot with grasp.

his auto attack

But that's in laning phase, where grasp is still stronger if used frequently. In a fight, you will usually open with ult or hook, putting mastery on CD.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

it overlaps with the one that gives you damage overtime while being not as good in all healthy ways
