Would it be smart to have Vlad scale more with tank items again?

So Vlad is getting a buff next patch in the form of Spirit Visage healing. Which is good since hes still struggling in non-LCS. And it got me thinking about Vlad and the MYMU change.

The MYMU and patches afterwards tried to get Vlad to be more of an AP Drain Mage than an AP Drain Tank. And since then he has dropped in winrate and from what i hear is being picked in the LCS for the ULT damage boost and thats it.

If we changed Vlads passive back to being more health less AP centered. And adjust scaling as such to make him an AP drain tank again. Would that fix his current issues as he would be a tank again and less of an AP lackluster damage lackluster tank hybrid?

I honestly dont know but it was just a thought i had. Maybe get ToB in here to give his 2 cents.

I think Vlad is in a really good spot right now. I feel he is really strong, I don't feel like he needs a buff/nerf. If they were going to buff him though, into a priority LCS Pick this Season. I think they would just touch on SV but. As far as a long term buff, I think they just should increase his AP Scaling, and lower his Lane Safety. But I honestly don't feel like he needs any changes right now. Except the easy Buff to SV for higher priority Competitive pick.

He is a popular LCS pick while also having a 47% winrate. Apparently his ult is just that juicy.

Your thoughts are really well put. Honestly probably better than my thoughts.

It's not really a buff to him though because the only time you'd ever build Spirit Visage is if they have like 3-4 AP. His highest winrate builds consistently favor high amounts of ap, cdr, and spell pen.

It could be argued that Spirit Visage offers CDR, but your team could potentially have 2-3 ap which makes Abyssal a juicy purchase while offering the same cdr, some mr, and damage amp. Otherwise, Zhonya's Hourglass / Lucidity Boots / proper rune setup offer him everything he needs to not warrant using Spirit Visage for CDR alone. The extra healing is nice, for sure. But he doesn't really have sustain problems lategame, especially if you ult anything more than one person.

They nerfed Vlad in that way in reaction to the players taking him mid and rushing item 3065

That became his core item when his old spellvamp stat got removed item 3145

His items went from AP to TANK. He became a sustaining ranged high scaling TANK in the mid lane that is not easy to gank either. By removing a glassy vamp item from him they pushed him to go more bulk putting some of that sustain into his own kit putting him in a form more unhealthy than he ever was.

So I doubt it even makes sense to give him more health scaling back

Frankly Vlad is less healthy because of that item shift. An LCS team will abuse him as a stale counterpick that mocks the game which is the optimal way to play him (and always has been). Meanwhile casual players won't have the same... consistency...

He's much better now, he doesn't need to be a tanky champion who simply survives the fight but a skirmishing battle mage ducking in and out of the fight quickly, diving onto his backline dishing out massive amounts of AOE damage which is to me at least really fun.
