He is from a meta where top laners werent as mobile and thus couldnt reach him. Now? Not so much anymore.
Mid lane he sucks because he has terrible wave clear and sub par poke against range.

He has been like that for so long though, he's still in need of a rework. He's never played, hasn't been useful in like two years, and is only ever played competitively to abuse his ultimate with champions like kalista.

His wave clear is actually pretty good, just risky since you would need to E into the wave to do it. Also I feel he is great as a Mid lane and I actually play him much more often Mid than I do top lane (He's my 2nd most played champion). Sure some mid lane champions might be a little to hard for him, but I feel he has more favorable match ups in the mid lane then he has in the top lane imo.
