So I was just in my promos to gold 5

2/0 for a nice start, hoping to keep it up

Feeding support cost me my next game, 2/1

Troll jungler didn't take smite, so I had to go Tahm Kench jungle, 2/2

and the last game

ohhhh boy

24/7/5 S+ opened up all towers and inhibitors twice support went 4/17 jungler went 5/13 got 100% focused in teamfights and managed to get 1v5 double kills and triple kills as my team watches from 3 feet away teammates can't win a 4v3, after they all blew their ultimates on me the game lasts over 40 minutes, just 40 minutes of pure agony and suspense we lose

no gold for me

but i guess i deserve it, since everyone knows the only person i can blame is myself https://youtu.be/_c5YvlKZ6mI i could have clearly done something differently that game back to silver 1 for me

Edit: Also, the enemy Katarina who was stomping my trash silver teammates was Gold 2 and asked if I wanted to duo nice

Yo, I won my gold promos last Friday and even though I was happy as hell, I realized that we don't decide when we win promos, Riot's matchmaking does. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get past those promos, till one day the matchmaking just gave me a good team and let me win. Very luck based.

Decrit2 votes

in all fairness - this is bullshit.

In a school exam you don't decide if you pass, you see if you are well prepared enough for said exam. Since exercises or questions or wathever in the exam is randomly assigned you can't decide your result by yourself, but you can influence it with your decisions.

So it happens that people that are underprepared get better results than people that are more prepared, but overall who is more prepared gets overall better results than who is not.

The exam makers does not decide this. Riot does not decide its own neither. No one decides anything, except how this stuff is generated which has nothing to do with specific people promos. The only thing you can do is be yourself.

If shit hits the fan - well happens, so is life.

EDIT: so also i might add, any system is pretty much equivalent to the other, the only thing changing is the reward. If Riot were to make more "fair" to get to gold then it would be easier to get to gold, that then would reduce the value of being gold, that then might push Riot to increase the requirements to get rewards from getting on a specific ranking otherwise the community reduces the value of being gold.

"Okay Class, 2 + 2 = 4. You ready for the test?" "Yes I am!" "Okay Billy, what's 2 + 2?" "4!" "Correct! But it seems that your 4 classmates guessed it was 6. Looks like you're getting demoted to Silver 5 again."

SleepingVictors3 votes

I see where you're coming from, but there is a vast difference between these two "Tests of skills"

For one an exam is individual, so if you study hard enough you will get that desired grade. This test doesn't really test the rest of your classmates skills, you're the only one that can determine your grade.

When it comes to Promos you can't depend on your individual skill because this Is a team game. If one of your teammates decides to troll or afk then it's done, one of your 5 games is lost, on the next match, you notice that everyone on your team is silver 1-3 while the whole enemy team is gold 5-4, who would you put your bets on? I'm not going to say it's impossible ok, but that fact alone is tilting enough.

I believe that the only thing you can do to "influence" like you said is not feed. That's it seriously. You can try to influence by getting objectives like drag... seems as if the enemy team has more pressure on your other lanes and on your jgler. You can roam... seems as if your team is overextended, nope. You can work your own lane focus on winning your lane but as soon as you see ten "an ally has been slain" pop up before the 10 minute mark you're getting frustrated and tilted out of your damn mind.

I just find it hard to see how in these promos you get to show skill expression. There's just no room for skill expression in my opinion.

Listen, I agree when you say this

any system is pretty much equivalent to the other, the only thing changing is the reward. If Riot were to make more "fair" to get to gold then it would be easier to get to gold, that then would reduce the value of being gold, that then might push Riot to increase the requirements to get rewards from getting on a specific ranking otherwise the community reduces the value of being gold.

But isn't this just you agreeing that there's something a bit unfair in promos? I recognize that it is hard to fix something like this without giving promo wins to undeserving players but it's still annoying to deserving players that can't climb.

Decrit2 votes

I don't agree there is something unfair in promos. I agree that there can be nothing absolutely objectively fair in life, and so just happens promos to be into it.

The only thing you can make to be "fair" is to detach as much as possible personal choices to a judgement ( in this case - promo ), so at least the outcome does not depend on the test maker.

I agree it is not an individual game and in that it differs from tests, but does that change the scenario? In a test you have different problems posed in front of you, in game too - and that problem can also be ally management. You don't play only against the enemy team, you play along your teammates in the bad or good.

Sure thing afkers or trollers are bad and ruin your game, granted, but then what should you do? forgive games with trollers and afkers ( besides retry)? you know it would be very abused then, and at that point it would be extremely unfair for every other (including the winning team, that loses a win and a lot of time just for this).

The problem here is not riot, the problem here is those shitty players. other than reporting them and reply there isn't too much you ( or Riot) can do.

SleepingVictors1 votes

It's true though there's just nothing we can do or riot can do, If a player is bad then he's bad, you cant report him unless he admits to intentional or trolling. Even though I believe that the report system is complete shit

The unfair part in this is that Riot's matchmaking is set to completely mess you up in promos, the skill difference between your matchmade team and the matchmade enemy team is easily noticed. I'm not saying this just cause I want to its because there's proof, you can see it or test it for yourself, I believe its meant to be there anyway because they wanna test if you're able to carry 4 other bozo shit players against 5 Fakers.

You're right we can retry, but till when are people gonna take this tedious grind? I think players just want to show that they belong in a higher rank and they're not being allowed to show their skills.

I'm going to say it again and I believe that some players don't deserve that rank they really want, but there are players who do and can't because they can't demonstrate that they can.

Decrit1 votes

I agree it is sucky when it messes you up in promos - i mean, look at me, i am silver I and i am exactly the kind of player that gets into that.

It's arguable that Riot should treat you any better if you are in promo. And you actually get a retry bonus when you are into a promotion a second time, so you actually have some things already set in favor from your own idea.

I just take it as it is for a simple reason - you are playing with randoms. Of course you can get fucked up by randoms on a team game.

Let's be clear one of the main reasons LoL got popular is soloQ on casual level and it's all fine and dandy, but it's still a team game. You can't expect a quality competitive game if you play only as a solo on a team game. That's true for every kind of game that is a team game, MMOs included.

That's also why they pushed and hyped so much Clash - it was for them the occasion to actually provide a quality team competitive game that was able to be mantained. Too bad on some servers it did not work well ( included mine ahem ahem ).

What i mean is, if for you soloQ is not "fair" enough, given your interpretation of "fairness", then you kinda deserve it because you are not playing the way the game should be set for it to be competitively viable.

And even if you value "solo skill" well that is also pretty much unreasonable to witheld on a team game too because "teammaking skills" are also an important part of the game, and that important thing is substituted by another one while playing solo - "influencing skills", which are of different nature and effect.

Sorry if my english is a bit broken here and there, hope the message gets throught.

Yep looks like your avg silver game. Lots of wasted time even by OP. Could've done a lot more with that gold lead you had. Gotta remember that this is season 8 and even though you were insanely ahead, you still need a team around you to win. Lead them, if they don't follow you then you follow them.

If you're actually looking for tips to improve, I have a few from the limited points I saw in the video

Your cs was extremely low. Sure, you had a lead because you were kills up, but if you had more CS as well you would've been much stronger.

@2:14- Your wave was slow pushing into the enemy top laner. You should not have tried to take a fight there, because most junglers will know that you will soon be overextended and look to gank that.

You wound up getting a huge lead, but instead of roaming and helping your team get ahead as well, you sat top lane, even when you were losing inhibs.

@11- You went mid and went for the win despite your yasuo going bot.

And these are just things I picked up from your highlights. I imagine if I saw the full vod there would be much more.

Ok sure but why2 votes

Ohhhh, the Yasuo thing. I told him that all we needed to do was 2v2 our way to their nexus to win, and he walked away. I forgot to mention that, even though that was probably the most tilting part of the entire game --- knowing something can be done, but having your literal teammates go out of their way to make sure it can't be done.

naymless1 votes

It sucks that he didn't listen to you, but oh well. Stuff like this happens all the time, and you just have to deal with it. You can't be greedy and try to end if he's not on the same page as you.

Ok sure but why1 votes

Yeah, I guess I'm just comfortable getting greedy on Tahm because of his safe shield. I honestly only died to the 1v2 from sheer horrid timing, since blitz silenced me the exact millisecond I was about to use my shield. Rip me.

You know how many times i've been told I'd never get to gold? Gold in all ques.

I was told I wouldn't get to plat or "stay silver/bronze/whatever"

I'm halfway to play 1. Just 2-3 games and I'm in promos.

Honestly though? If I could find the exact Elo that people weren't giant douche nozzles I'd stay in that elo and have fun.

But since it exists on all stages I gotta keep climbing and so can you.

You got months to reach gold. You'll do it. :D

What do you expect to do as a dps with high health tahm kench late? no matter how fed you were you were contributing nothing but another source of damage, you didn't act as a frontliner or peel that tryndamere rengar and kata off your teammates or made surprise molestations with your ult. I don't blame you for getting 60 iq ape teammates, but you can't expect to win the game just because you got fed as a DPS Tahm Kench while your is behind. btw you could've win if trashuo went for the last tower after baron instead of going bot

CodeNightFall2 votes

I climbed to Diamond 3 on my main account from Gold 3. Let me tell you, you have nearly no effect on your promos as a toplaner, ACROSS ALL ELOS. More often than not, you will encounter a troller or an afk in your promos. Commonly your botlane Adc or support will troll if they die just once. Just pray you get a good team. But your a good player my dude. Good luck!

Linna Excel1 votes

What about split pushing? I don't think most golds or plats are able to deal very well with a split pusher.

CodeNightFall1 votes

I would say split push. But I dont want to be the reason people play Tryndamere .

Hate that champ..

Linna Excel1 votes

There's a few others.

Nasus, Fiora, Illoai, and I saw a diamond Garen be able to split push in lower elos.

CodeNightFall1 votes

All of those have counterplay (Maybe not Garen ) though. If your smart enough you can beat all of those, maybe Nasus as well pre 400 stacks :D

Ever since I started playing this game, I've hated this narrative with a burning passion. So teammates have absolutely ZERO accountability? Regardless, I watched your video and all I can say is that I'm sorry you had to go through that. I barely have the patience for Normals. Ranked is for those with truly unbreakable will.

If you play that good literally every game then you will climb.

Perma CC1 votes

Ah see I watched more of the video and I see the problem. You started inting out of tilt. You'd throw yourself at their base and reaally bad teamfights would happen. Instead of just getting your team together and doing a teamfight and winning.

Ok sure but why1 votes

You'd be surprised what herculean might I'd need to muster in order to "get my team together," "do a teamfight" AND "win." Especially that game. I did stand by my team when I wasn't split-pushing an enemy inhib or two. As the tank, I needed to be the one to initiate! If I waited on anyone else, I'd be waiting a really long time, so all I could do was hope I'd get some followup, which never happened.

Well... You can "blame" some particular games on your teammates to some degree. (dont actually do that in chat. you will get spanked by rito) But the only person one can blame for not being able to climb is yourself. Lets not mix that up.

Malix Farwin1 votes

Ive never done well after 2 losses in a row, better off stopping after that, its usually a sign that soloq is about to bend you over and give you the business with bad teammates. On the other hand if you are winning a lot you want to get keep going till you lose. Example was yesterday after 2 losses i kept playing and ended up losing 6 in a row because every game every other lane kept losing. However after i stopped playing i got on and got on a winning streak and kept playing till i lost and got 8 wins off that.

Thats exactly how i got out of Silver. When i just kept trying to play regardless i dropped from S1 to S4 but when i followed that (2 in a row loss then quit and 3 in a row win keep going till i lose) i was climbing. If you still feel like playing after the 2 losses in a row then you can play norms till you take a break but 2 losses in a row is my sign that soloq is just gonna toss you the rejects for a while.

I wouldn’t say games are decided at matchmaking. Though some games are unwinnable due to teammates that lose it for all of us, that doesn’t mean all are. If you play correctly ( and sometimes perfectly ) you can still close out those games with a win. Again, that’s not to say all games are like that, I’ve been in situations where every lane wins but one and the one lane that lost ended up losing us the game. Take a peek at my match history if you’d like, my buddy and I spammed ranked and we won most of our games. And often, our other lanes fed HARD but we still closed out games with wins due to smart micro and macro. Just don’t tilt and get back out there!

( another account I’ve been playing on that I haven’t touched in forever is my Spartan567 account. Same thing there. Take a peek! We fell behind a lot in those games.)

Classic Riot MMR Promos.

99% of the time you will be given trash on your team or Smurfs on the enemy team if you are in a Promo.

Riot wants everyone to stay where they are by 1 Division. The struggle use to make people play more. They went too far and broke it. They know this now and that is why they are going to try this "New" Rank by Roll thing. They are trying to draw out another 2-3 years of play on the game before the $$ is gone.
