Knock it off with the URF mode ults

You did it to Nasus You did it to Vayne

You're doing it to Aatrox. Can we cut this out? Does Aatrox really need 100% CDR on his bread and butter while his R is active? Do you think I'm going to find that enjoyable to play against?

Why can't these champions, I don't know, not be trash without their ult and completely broken when it's up?

Also, Spear of Shojin does something very similar - it's cancerous as fuck. Man, fuck the balance team for these stupid ass decisions...

You're getting downvoted when you're spilling the real beans.

This is nothing more than a souped up band-aid fix. Aatrox has clear problems that lay within the fact that his entire damage output relies heavily on his slow, telegraphed Q. If he lands them he's good if he doesn't he sucks. All of his other abilities besides passive, are subsidiary to his main ability.

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I don't like the changes because I'm an Aatrox player and these buffs are absolutely insane and brings back memories of playing old Aatrox and feeling like a god. Despite this I realise it's not very good for balance, doesn't address his core issues and he'll probably end up receiving more nerfs down the line. Even though it aims at moving Aatrox away from pro-play, the fact that he becomes EVEN MORE of a CC, bursting machine.. yeah I think he's gonna be just fine in the hands of a pro.

Good news is that these changes aren't final... bad news is that it's Riot Games and they've shipped a lot of these changes out before XD

Aatrox is hard to balance because he has a single ability that deals tons of damage, rather than multiple abilities with moderate damage... that sounds familiar. I Zoe wonder where I've Zoe heard that before Zoe ?

But seriously. When will Riot learn? Forcing a champion to rely on a single damaging skillshot doesn't work.

Zoe was literally marketed as the One Shot Queen champion on her release, and the joys of this marketing gave her a way to take down single targets or to harass multiple with her R + Q, her E can lock down one target yet her mobility is limited and returns her to initial position.

I mean if you think about it Aatrox's Q is actually 3 'abilities' in one, meanwhile Zoe just does a shitton of damage with a single attack. That's quite different if you ask me.

Nothing's stopping them from trying to fine tune each Q cast so that the first one doesn't feel like a wet noodle while the third one hits like a truck, they're just not doing it for some reason.

Inb4 Volibear gets 0 cooldown Q and E when he ults.

I mean... Aatrox had a pretty balanced winrate before getting his kit gutted, the whole reason why he was even nerfed was because of pro play and the general community complaining falsely about him being overpowered.

I don't know why they are making this buff, since the only thing it'll do is to make him go back at being oppresive in pro play and making people complain about him because of (lets face it) it'll be incredibly unsatisfying to play against a champion who can do anything while having its ult while being able to do nothing while not having it.

"complaining falsely about him being overpowered"

You what? A free and low cooldown guardian angel isn't overpowered at all? On a very strong diver that has a ton of built in sustain already? Delusional... Hence why they removed the GA aspect of it so he can't just yolo dive for free. That was a LOT of power budget on his kit, which is why they are TESTING buffs to his offense to compensate.

Have you ever played Aatrox in URF? Having his Q permanently up is hardly a buff due to the super long cast times.

Later in the game Aatrox already has an essentially URF mode Q. This just gives him it temporarily at level 6+ during his ult.

I'm willing to see how this one goes. It's nowhere near as bad as 50% CD Q's for Nasus and Vayne.

I think you should take a look at the full changes.

Umbral Dash (E) healing increased from 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% to 20/25/30/35/40% Cooldown lowered from 9/8/7/6/5 to 7 at all ranks

They're nerfing his E's cooldown again, making it IMPOSSIBLE for him to do any form of reliable combo but greatly increasing his healing versus champions. Making it so in ult form, when he's going man mode on you, he is healing a significantly larger amount of HP and this also synergises with his item build picking up more HP and healing now.

World Ender (R) 160/140/120s Cooldown "Aatrox reveals his true demonic form for 7/10/13s and begins to fill a Blood Well. The Blood Well stores all healing he takes during this time. At the end of the effect, or upon taking lethal damage, he heals depending on how full the Blood Well is. During this time, The Darkin Blade has no cooldown and resets the cooldown of Umbral Dash. Additionally, Aatrox gains Movement Speed when not in combat with champions or turrets, 20/25/30% Total Attack Damage, and he fears nearby minions."

Looking at these changes, there's quite a few things to note. First of all, the duration increases gradually as they want him to be fighting in ult form a lot more now. Secondly BOTH his Q and his E reset in ult form, making him reliably commit to doing massive amounts of damage as seen here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AatroxMains/comments/b3xn25/demonstration_of_the_new_aatrox_ult_rework_on_the/

Finally, the issue about URF mode Aatrox is that he's going against other URF mode champions. Even if he's subpar in URF, these changes make him super overbearing during ultimate and makes him even more useless in base form. The problem with Nasus' and Vayne's ult buffs are that they didn't sacrifice anything for it, Aatrox is basically sacrificing his entire kit outside of ULT as he's relegated to being a poke bot with the E c/d nerf.

You never max E before Q, so that's a buff to laning.

Also, his Q never made sense with his ult before. His ult says "run in" but his Q says "space this". The change to E resetting on Q's massively ups the synergy (and general sense-making) of Q and R. The change to his ult from only a revive to a "revive" or heal means he no longer needs to hard int to proc the heal and can focus on landing his Q's.

The only thing out of all of this that I have any problem with is his E resetting on Q cast rather than Q sweetspot hit, a change I would like to see made.

Other than that this looks totally fine, and this is coming from someone who doesn't play Aatrox and hates facing him pre and post-nerf.

On the playing against side, it’s also still possible to reduce how mch he heals from the Blood Well, since you can either disengage so he can’t deal damage to heal or dodge the sweet spots on his Q’s, but the timing out of the effect won’t feel as bad for Aatrox players as they’ll still heal.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

The E resets just REALLY need to be sweetspot only. Currently on PBE he can EQE with 3Q which basically gives him a flash range E3Q.

Is there a link for the demonstration outside reddit? asked a person who can’t go there

EH not as serious as nasus's or vayne's. You can evade aatrox's q since its slow and telegraphed, unlike the formers.

Nah dude those are the best!

Aren't you happy that we are walking towards a scenario where everyone ults in a teamfight then rams their face over the keyboard with 0 second CD's?!

I'm HYPED!

They should nerf Lucian for URF. Every time I go against one he gets like 20 plus kills. Gets tiring watching him dash all over and double AA over and over and over.

Why can't these champions, I don't know, not be trash without their ult and completely broken when it's up?

Riot has proven time and time again that: A. The Live design team is completely useless at balancing champions post release. B. The Live design team does not have a toplaner on it.

This is why champs can't be balanced and have enjoyable kits to play against.
