Thunderlords is better than Deathfire touch 4 out 5 times

I just want to point out a simple logic that I think most people never really considered when picking deathfire touch vs thunderlords. DFG (Deathfire touch) is only good on tanks, thats it thats all. It is not nearly as effective as TDL (Thunderlords) on squishy because it does damage over time and it does not have access to that flat armor/magic pen TDL has. It has access to a mere 7% magic and no armor pen. It is even less effective against ADCs who have lifesteal as they have enough time to heal up any damage DFT does. DFT has even more counterplay as it gives targets time to use shields and heals. This simply makes the damage it does less effective as their is just way more counter play. Even tanks have high health regen which slowly counters DFG.

So, those are just some fact I think most people never consider when choosing DFT over TDL. But here is the biggest drawback IMO. Enemy teams tend to have 1-2 tanks/bruisers on their team. That means, DFT is only effective on 20-40% off your targets, while TDL while work against 3-4 non tank/squishies in the average game. That makes TDL effective against 60-80% of your targets most times.

When you think of it like that, is there any reason to get DFT over TDL?

I mean, even the damage over time mages likeMalzahar Brand can use TDL just as well as DFT. So whats the point of DFT? It has better lategame? Well, most game last about 20 to 30 mins.

I just don't really see any point at which DFT is better than TDL.

I see it useful on champs like swain who deal consistent aoe damage - which will constantly be ticking along his regular dmg, and isn't locked out by a hefty cooldown in teamfights.

Swain with R up and Q/Eing people is going to be outdamaging TLD consistently in a teamfight.

Honestly, it take DFT 4 seconds to get an additional 24% ap. Most team fights last about 5 seconds. With that in mind, you would need about a 1000 ap for it to do just about the same damage TDL does. 1000 ap is kinda hard to get nowadays and only reallly happens in late game. You're also losing the flat magic pen and with the points I just laid out, you're only going to be more effective vs 1 or 2 tanks out of 5 enemies.

There isn't many champs or conditions where DFT is better.

First of all, it's Deathfire Touch Second of all, if you take DFT you will also have the 7% magic pen from masteries Third, DFT is for high dps champs with low down time on abilities and/or lots of single-target damage; Thunderlords Decree is for burst casters who want to win fights within a single combo (who happen to be a majority among mages).

I think it's the masteries one tier down that seem to be the culprit, that cdr increase from intelligence or the pen are both pretty damned good when added into the equation I'd honestly, swap out the hybrid pen for the lethality for the tier 5 masteries, and then move dfg down to tier 4 or 2 as a special ability in the red tree. Then to replace it i'd make a fervor of battle type ability for casters, that raised AP on hit with a spell by 2% stacking five or six times.. which would be pretty big

i just wish they made dft scale with total ad instead of bonus ad.
