Why is 2 top, 1 mid, and 2 bot not played?

Is duo top really that bad? I can see it being very good.

One of them could take smite if that is the issue for objective control but other than that is there any real bad issue?

I could see these types of duos top:

One would take the melee minions, other ranged. They can pressure hard and typically the one that scales better usually takes the cannon. Thoughts why it isnt done?

It's mathematically less efficient use of total map resources.

That is the only reason.

Its less efficient but the plays are typically better in a duo top.

Singed + Teemo is a lane that the enemy jungler would never want to gank with all the poison around lol So the enemy laner would get dived all day and rage quit then the duo top can proceed to win. Still remember that time when I had a Shen + Rammus duo top against a solo laner and he couldn't do anything because he'd get taunted alot and die lol I was the Shen in that game and this was pre-rework Shen.

they're not played due to lane ganks/exp control. Notice, Bot Lane is always roughly 2 levels behind the rest of the team. The exp distribution is Mid>Top>Jungle with Bot/Sup splitting the xp.

i could see duo top being played and jungle get phased out if and when (but be honesty never gonna happen) exp is obtained and put to the entire team evenly.

But with this kind of cause its not based off lane's anymore, everyone could simply Aram, summoner's rift, as individual lane xp isn't needed.

so the reason duo top isn't used is because of basically exp distribution.

It's seen a lot in pre-30 games when jungling is terrible thanks to not unlocking smite until level 10, and incomplete runes and masteries making it very difficult to clear with any health left. 1-1-2 + jg is the meta because it's what works best. Back in season 1 before the lane meta was established though, you would see basically every lane combination to some degree.

But basically you're just wasting all the gold and xp from jungle, and dividing the cs and xp in top lane.

With new changes on passive xp gain when behind in levels, running it down mid or duo top aren't so bad. In fact, I would not be surprised if it (the meta)turned into the following soon:

Jungle does 2 camps, ganks bot. Takes tower. Backs. Takes buffs, stays Top till tier 1 and 2 are down. Group mid and mooch Xp off the midlaner while pushing for the win.
