being able to out bully and outscale almost all melee champs.
Oh man, 3 hyper carries(Vayne, Ryze, Kayle) are better bullies to melees than Renekton, Teemo, Darius, Illaoi, and Trundle AND outscale almost all of them.
Why pick Renekton or Illaoi to dominate lane when you can do it more safely while outscaling the laner as Kayle, Vayne, or Ryze?

As for your question: frontline: Vayne and Quinn are too squishy to be a frontline champ in teamfights, which helps protect the back line carries.
Just because someone does good in lane doesn't mean they're better as the game goes on.
Ranged top laners are annoying though.
