Anybody else notice how Illaoi feels almost exactly like Darius?

Yea they're both juggernauts but their kits are really similar, too similar.

Passives: Both passives require you to keep your distance from them. Darius in order to not build up 5 stacks and Illaoi to not get hit by tentacles.

Q: Aoe harras in lane that is annoying to play vs and makes the laning phase a bit obnoxious.

W: Auto resets that screw you(the opponent) over hard. Darius slows you to get hit by his Q and Illaoi gets tentacles to slap at you.

E: in lane if Darius or Illaoi land this you will typically be in a world of hurt and lose a ton of lane pressure/get pushed out of lane. Darius pulls you in to get a ton of damage off and Illaoi deals damage to you and your spirit then makes you a vessel which annoys you for the mext 12 seconds.

R: Both ultimates are incredibly game changing and make the enemy want to keep their distance until it isnt as big a problem. Darius ult is a problem if he is in Noxian Might and gets kited away in order to not dunk the enemy. Illaoi makes her tentacles slap faster so the enemy just moves away from the tentacles and make her useless.

If you play Darius, Illaoi feels almost the exact same. Same for Illaoi players.

Why did I make this post? To show you guys how if Darius is good Illaoi becomes obsolete and if Illaoi is good Darius becomes obsolete.

This is an issue.

Everything except "This is an issue." sounds about right. It is a little funny that their spells move right down the line like that too. Usually champs will have varying degrees of similarity, but usually its like "his e is like her p, but her p is like his w and their Qs are the same"

I've been wanting to try out Illaoi.

Here's something you didn't talk about, Illaoi vs darius.

In my experience, Darius wins that one.

Darius wins but also loses. Illaoi is super good at baiting Darius.

If Illaoi lands E, she WANTS Darius to pull her so she can ult and kill him.

If Darius pulls Illaoi she goes all in and wins if Darius stays to fight.

pre 6 she pulls his spirit and he dgaf and fights her.

Post 6 she ults and he walks out of it then walks back in and its basically like pre 6 except darius has ult.

Aside from both being Juggernauts I completely disagree.

Illaoi is concerned about positioning around and protecting her tentacle spawns, she has no way to displace enemy champions, yet she has a dash that's really important to her mobility where Darius is anchored to nothing but also has no movement abilities of any kiind.

Their ults are super iconic and Darius's is all about getting the killing blow on someone to finish a fight while Illaoi turns it on at the start for a massive steroid.

Darius pulls in targets and secures kills Illaoi throws around rampant AoE damage to soften everything up

Different roles, different playstyles, different strengths, extremely different.

It doesn't matter if they have similar kits. It matters if they play differently.

Look at Kha'Zix and Rengar.

  • Both have leaps/engages
  • Both have a ranged slow
  • Both have invisibility ults
  • Both have passives that transforms their basic abilities

If you play them, they both feel different. Rengar's guaranteed to do the burst damage he's supposed to, but he's feast of famine and doesn't have an escape without burning his flash or ult. Kha'Zix has to pick off targets with poor positioning to do the huge burst an assassin should, but he has both a guaranteed escape and engage that resets on kill or assist without burning anything important like his flash. Similar kits, but different playstyles.
