Jax can dodge AA based CC's on PBE

FalconPawwwwnch··8 votes·14,426 views

Yea, after the patch he can dodge all the damage and CC of Udyr E, Renekton W, Leona Stun, and other auto based CC's, this was never the case before, he took the CC and some of the damage in some cases (like renekton's), but now he dodges everything

Why wasn't this documented in the patch notes? I understand this was an intended goal of Riot to fix dodge/block this preseason but shouldn't something like this have been noted?

I really like that update. I've been using jax a lot lately to climb up the silver ranks (silver 3 right now :D ) and one thing that really ticks me off is when I'm hitting my E and still being hit by auto attacks that have some form of a component added to them..

It's a good change

But you think they'd mention something this big

It's a change that will be in the patch notes for 5.22. We haven't released any official notes yet and it's not the sort of change that's easily picked up by data mining PBE builds.

This change also applies to Blinds, so Teemo will be able to negate CCs with Blinding Dart (though the timing on that's much harder than on Counterstrike of course). Similarly Panth's block also stops effects attached to the auto attack blocked. Additionally various attacks that previously hit through blind/dodge/block will now be negated as you'd expect. There are a couple of exceptions however, in cases where an ability that's more spell than auto attack (as opposed to auto attack with added effect) uses right click as a means of triggering (Volibear Q and Hecarim E being the only two from memory).

Curious about this change for Panth.

Does this mean situations like Tahm Ketch needing to land 3 autos will have 1 stack blocked if Panth's shield is up?

RiotMeddler8 votes

That's correct.

OnanThaMan1 votes

you may have said this elsewhere, with udyr as an example when jax dodges the stun, does the timer for the stun start then or can Udyr stun him once Jax's dodge has ended? And Does things like J4's/Naut's passive do the same?

Nathan Kim1 votes

It, in theory, should block both Nauts and J4's since both are AA

OnanThaMan1 votes

I'm asking how the timers on each play into that. Each one has so long before you can proc them again, and i'm asking if the timers start when you hit him during the dodge or after you've hit him once the dodge has ended.

Pikmints1 votes

Will enhanced autos like Nasus' Q or Sona passive still be consumed?

Lord Boltrix1 votes

What about Mordekaiser?

Mordekaiser

Is his Mace of Spades going to be included, or is he still going to have the unstoppable auto-attack.

FalconPawwwwnch1 votes

Ahh okay that makes sense, so Im assuming itll also avoid xins q?

Do you think this will influence the affected champions much? I personally believe (despite this being needed for quite some time now) that this is a massive buff to jax especially

RiotMeddler2 votes

Gut reaction is there's a notable amount of power in this change. We'll follow up on Jax/Teemo/Panth in a later patch if needed, though don't feel we need to make any preemptive changes to compensate.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Teemo will probably just get closer to viable. Panth is nerfed by the less accessible mana regen, and even his passive is mana gated, so it should be OK. Jax tho.

Rito Staff1 votes

Teemo is super viable. His auto the later the harder it hits. Any good teemo spams his shrooms constantly in the hotspots of that match. There are diamond teemo mains so idk what do u mean by 'not viable'. Not viable for the 1%? Even they surprises us with weird picks like Zac!

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

I mean that lots of 5 year Teemo mains are giving up on his underpoweredness.

Believe it or not the Trinity Force changes help out Jax...

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

They should be balanced or lower, saying that Jax's TF and BoRK were nerfed, Teemo's Hurricane no longer suits him, and Panth has been crappy for a while.

I'm sorry, on a totally unrelated note. Why is forum broken? Replies are shown as separate posts rather than attacked to the post they reply to. I know it's not your job, but could you pass on that to the right people? It's really hard to make out the replies. Thank you.

Did you know if blitz grabs a tristana while she rocket jumps she will still jump away.

Sneak Dog1 votes

The reverse is also true. If Tristana starts casting rocket jump, then gets hit by rocket grab, then finishes casting rocket jump, she jumps away. It's intended. Jumps/knock-ups/knock-backs/pulls override eachother. The last one to 'activate' is the one that gets finished.

Actually, that particular one isn't true: displacements interrupt dashes, which means that Rocket Grab/Powerfist/ETC will interrupt it.

EDIT: Nvm you were talking about hitting during the cast time. Haven't tested that one.

DrCyanide1 votes

Same with Ezreal, and it has been stated many times that it's intentional. Those dashes have a delay before they activate, so as a "tradeoff" for taking some damage they would have avoided had it activated instantly they get to move while CC'd if they time it right.

Photos of Ghosts3 votes

Shouldn't it just be consistent with on-hit or spell effect application? Why shouldn't they block Heca's E, Fiora's Q, Ezreal's Q?

kJs1 votes

Fiora's Q? Or her Vitals? Ezreal's Q is more of a spell but idk. Displacement CC will still be unblockable, like Hecarim's E and Volibear's Q because they are displacement CCs.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Fiora's Q applies on-hits instead of spell effects I think. If it's just her passive and it's a spell for other effects, then my bad. I think it'd be better to really put a wall and say "on-hit====autoattack", so Ez's Q should be affected by blocks. Maybe not by blinds since it's a skillshot. And for displacement CCs, Banshee's blocks them. Blinds and blocks should too, with the same rule (aka I dunno if Heca just does his animation while standing still or if he goes through the target for Banshee's, but he should do the same thing here).

kJs1 votes

Decent argument. I think it's for balance's sake. Blocking something that integral to a champion kit (Voli Q) is pretty hard of a counter.

Wouldn't spells like Viktor's Q and TF's W fit that category as well? I mean both of them are just "convert your auto attack into X for one attack", not really an additional effect.

ABlueQuaker5 votes

Finally fixes blinds. Removes blind from Quinn's Q.

Gotta love Riot sometimes.

Eeyore2 votes

Not sure if it would have been affected - but can it be fixed that if Twitch targets Jax with Rat-Ta-Tat-tat that he will "miss" versus all targets, whereas if he targets anyone else and happens to hit Jax he will only miss Jax. Surely Jax should only dodge the hit against himself? Not punish Twitch for using Jax as a means to aim his basic attacks to hit behind Jax.

What about Ezreal Q? Any change?

Can we make it so Rengar can't trigger his innate while blind? For reasons.

Singed's Fling.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Not an autoattack, proof is that you're supposed to animation cancel and sneak an autoattack during your fling, which means that your autoattack cooldown isn't consumed by the fling itself.

Done251 votes

I would very much like to contest your statment that those abilities are closer to being spells.

"Rolling Thunder: Volibear gains 15% bonus movement speed for the next 4 seconds, increased when moving towards a nearby visible enemy champion. For the duration, Volibear's next ->basic attack<- deals bonus physical damage and flings his target over and behind himself."

"Devastating Charge: While Hecarim is charging, his -> next basic attack <- gains range, knocks back his target, and deals physical damage based on how far Hecarim traveled during Devastating Charge's duration, ending its effects in the process."

An easy test is that if something naturally benefits from Sheen, such as Siphoning Strike, then it's a basic attack based ability and should be dodgeable by Jax.

Yeah because Gunblade doesn't exist at all. You only build botrk on Jax because its statistically overpowered as fuck. Gunblade, with new guinsoos and mallet is going to be core on Jax.

Op and I are both Jax players and he has been for a long time and we've basically determined Jax just got mega buffed and the itemization changes for him aren't a nerf.

There's really not many match-ups Jax loses in top lane right now. Renekton is his hard counter, that's over now because Jax dodges stun and Renekton is now forced to trade reactively in this lane and when Renekton is forced to play reactively, he loses. Nasus had a hard early game vs Jax but outscaled him, Jax E dodges siphoning strike now - that match-up is now impossible for Jax to lose.

Aside from lulu, maybe Kennen and Olaf, I don't see anyone else beating Jax.
