While I don't agree with the opinion that tanks are doing poorly, I do agree that
isn't a primary tank. He can tank damage very well, but he has no way to properly peel for his carries like
or
.
is more of a juggernaut like
and
. They provide moderate (though it seems like a lot of damage to a squishy, for good reason honestly) damage, and are very durable. But they lack tools in their kits to properly tank for their team. Tanks usually have forms of peel or lockdown (hence CC) on top of being very durable. They are suppose to be the first ones in, get the attention, and let their carries do the main damage.
Of course by that definition, juggernauts can do that job just as well if not better (Like
getting to his villain). But they do not provide enough utility to help their team. They are the carries of the big guys, a more selfish variant of tank if you must call them a tank.
An easy way to tell who is a tank and who isn't is by looking at their kit and seeing what it provides.
has only one form of CC and that isn't till level 6, yet she builds very tanky and deals a large amount of sustained damage. Her ult is meant to help her get to the enemy, not to protect her team.
on the otherhand has two CC abilities before 6, built to knock up or slow his opponents so they can't get away. Thus
is a tank while
is a juggernaut.
has an inherently selfish kit. It's centered around him not dying and killing others (his CC is a slow that is used like
's slow, to get to his target). Thus he's a juggernaut/tanky fighter, not a tank.
Remember, tanky=/=tank.
