You want to know what makes League feel so bad now?

Pierce The Veal··138 votes·23,458 views

One person can lose you a game, but the opposite is not true; one person cannot win/carry a game (with the occasionaly exception of some adcs).

One bad player means the entire enemy team gets fed and stomps. One fed player means shut down gold for the entire enemy team when he dies. And so with the current dragon, shutdown gold for the team, itemization changes, and (basically) free vision, there's nothing stopping an entire team from snowballing off of one bad player on the enemy team.

And as toxic as it might sound, I'd much rather be trashed by a single good player rather than a team doing great off of shared gold and power granted by a single weak link on my team. Not to mention if it's a single person getting fed then it becomes possible through good teamwork to have a chance, whereas as it is now you have to overcome an entire team while being behind.

Of course it's all the worse with bot lane turret being built out of soggy toilet paper. And when the weak link is feeding the enemy ADC you really want to kill yourself because it is much cheaper to reach late game as an ADC than any other role.

I want more strategic play, more investment options for gold (besides equip items), more game knowledge, and more individual power. That's the only way the game can return to being fun again.

I wish shutdown gold would be removed from the game already.

Why should one player be expected to play perfectly to compensate for the constant feeding of another?

Prozzak51 votes

Remove shutdown gold and you make it even harder to make a comeback. The problem is not shutdown gold, the problem is that damage is so high across the board that getting only 1 person really fed means nothing because they can and will be very easily focused and shut down now. Lower innate damage across the board and those who get really fed will feel more powerful while also allowing shutdowns to exist without being too overbearing.

This is exactly what happened to me in that game, not gonna lie I thought about quitting LoL entirely after this experience.

I don't care If a player isn't doing well, I have off games too, nobody's perfect. What's annoying me is that I lost because the bad player on my team had more impact than me who was playing at near perfect level in that match. One single late game mistake by them offset every good plays I made during that match. Doesn't sound fair too me.

It is a team game if you are caught alone for being cocky then it is your own fault. Those bounty are there to make sure that you arent playing as a shelfish individual.

ROX Prime5 votes

whats your point? because your very wrong there are many many kda players in plat with 4.0 kda and there selfish play is why they lose shutdown gold has little to do with it.

Wild Herbivore4 votes

happens to me every game, I've quit because it's no longer fun or fair to have your team completely derail games even though I'm carring them kicking and screaming to the finish line.

I'm only sticking around on the forums in hope things change tbh

Poske4 votes

I am not a fan of shutdown gold either at current value There are other stuff we can do to lower snowball

Like reducing the gold towers give, Removing infernal drake, Nerfing baron impact

Gbay made a video about this - one of the worst things is that if one person is bad or throwing a temper tantrum, you can't just work around them. You need them because you have no way to compensate. This is especially bad if the person is throwing a fit because you're basically forced to beg and plead with a crybaby as if they had the moral high ground.

cheerfothebeer12 votes

Two things need to be fixed.

  1. The damage is way too high. There needs to be more counter-play.
  2. The matchmaking is terrible. That "feeder" is probably playing ranked with a champion they are not good with or a role they were auto filled into. Matchmaking is the biggest issue with this game. It's 2017, the way matches are setup needs to change. We all know MMR is complete trash. This topic has been brought up over and over and over and GC and the balance team refuse to address it as an issue. Get new balance people please.
GayFluffyUnicorn5 votes

Ever since s6 this games matchmaking has been going downhill and im repeating myself for two years now. Waaaaaaaayy too many boosted accounts with 50 games high diamond decayed down. DuoQ ruins any competitive aspect of the game. Solo lane+jungle or duo bot is basically freelo if you are not retarded. Rigged matchmaking that keeps you on losing streaks to keep you addicted same way gambling machines work but instead of throwing in money you throw in time and maybe money if you play long enough and a new skin comes out. People will cry tinfoil hat but i want to remember people that riot rigged their loot system to give you shit skins. Ask yourself why never in these years you have heard anything about matchmaking at all or how riot occasionally alters the MMR algorithm in korea a few days ago but will never tell you what they actually did.

Riot went from small indie company that cares for their players and the competitive aspect of the game to make it an esport into greedy shady piece of shit company that lies, tricks and cheats your for as much money as possible while trying to white vest themselves on communities like reddit by acting all dandy and memey and being so cool and close to the playerbase.

You can say this for any multiplayer game , it's way easier to carry the enemy team.

Verxint19 votes

Except in a lot multiplayer games you can carry through your own skill. One good player can carry multiple bad players in an FPS or RTS. Hell, in the former, it takes outright intentionally giving kills for free to lose for your team if they have a good player.

Riot has reduced the impact of a single good player, which I don't have a problem with on its own, but they've increased the impact of a single bad player.

justintime4ya4 votes

There are solutions to most problems in league, even if some are less potent than others. A classic example I like to use is lane pressure, because even a champion that isn't worth gold anymore can be useful by split-pushing and applying pressure on the enemy team.

Verxint9 votes

Even the best splitpushing in the world doesn't come close to compensating for one moron or crybaby on your team. And yorick is my second most played top lately, I know something about splitting

justintime4ya1 votes

Props to you for playing my man Yorick

As for split pushing, I'd argue the best splitpushing in the world could come close to making up for that, but you can't expect the best out of anyone. It is unfortunate that in the vast majority of cases the phrase "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" tells true.

Verxint5 votes

The thing is, splitpushing is a pretty bad example for a way to skillfully compensate for a dumbass on your team. Successful splitting requires that your team have at least the most basic ability to understand what's going on, and if you have that one guy who always tries to look for a pick or start a fight when you aren't in position to get a tower, it becomes nightmarishly hard.

Of course. But as it is a single player carrying is almost impossible in League atm. To carry you best hope your team isn't feeding or doing stupid shit.

With it being a "team game," individual players doing well isn't important, what's important is a single player not doing horribly/your entire team doing ok or slightly well.

Wimbleh5 votes

Pretty much yeah. Playing league of legends solo is an astronomical waste of time. You win games that you do awful and lose games that you play very well. Every game is a literal dice roll and there is zero incentive to actually play well because it makes no difference. The game that you and I play isnt the same game that professional players play. Yet, all of us who are buying skins and what-not are just lining the pockets of pro players and giving Riot more money to pump into their pro scene. Its sad really.

I've never actually seen the issue framed in this way, and it actually makes a lot more sense the way you said it OP. Thanks for putting into words something that I couldn't put together for myself. +1

There's been 100+ posts like this. It's just your average shitpost

HalcyonDweller5 votes

Did you read the whole post? Or did you see the words "solo-carry" and then stop caring?

"It's just your average shitpost"

Doesn't seem like one to me. A lot of the time people complain about being unable to solo-carry games, and if this post were about that I would agree with you. But this post is not about that, it is actually about something very different. It is erroneous to lump this post with all the posts complaining about being unable to solo-carry games.

TehNACHO4 votes

Honestly, this has been the case for quite a while. Like, since at least 5ish.

Prozzak3 votes

Ehhhh. It has been, but I think it gets worse and worse every season. So while true I think it is being felt more and more as time goes on.

OneMustFall4 votes

The biggest problem I feel with League right now is that towers meant to allow you to play safe are completely meaningless past laning phase. They die too easily and they do very little damage. I can literally stand under a tower for an entire team fight when diving and be totally fine even with it focusing me. That shouldn't happen. It feels like the actual point of towers has been removed from the game and they're just there as markers on the map. Make towers more formidable again and bring down all the "extra" damage people are getting outside of items and the game would be in a good state again.

Its so fun to play against a 1k health shield adc while they kite you with their support while also critting you for a fuckton of damage because ya know almost every adc nowadays have some kind of way to kite your ass besides Twitch MissFortune KogMaw but oh they have red buff lol get out of here.

N1ghtwalk3 votes

Ranked is pretty much just luck at this point, at least in lower ranks. What's sad is a string of bad players/games can bring you down that far and consistently match you with those players. The meta is so unbalanced that only a small handful of the total champions are played. Rarely are ranked games competitive or close for me, it's usually a one sided stomping. Shouldn't have to play 5 games to have one good/close match.

hey guys ive been playing for a year and im beginning to dislike this game majorly due to riot development in characters and in bugs with the game. im looking for a new game that's not dota 2 I don't really like that game either if anyone has any opinions or any games that are better than this let me know I would love to hear :)

DeusVult2 votes

As one person you can carry, just not 1v5. If you play around your advantages to then pass on a beneficial trade to your team, you will get the rest of your team fed. Increase the gold gap.

Too many people put "solo carry" in the 1v5 or perma-split mentality, when it is actually about getting an early lead by yourself and then leveraging that lead to boost the rest of your teammates.

Hibeki2 votes

That just isn't true. You can spoonfeed gold to your teammates all you possibly can, but if they wont take it its game over.

Example: Im singed top VS a yasuo, with flash ignite (The kill lane singed) and an enemy Jarvan Jungle

Both yasuo and Jarvan are at about 20% hp chasing after me through tribrush. When I get to our shyvana at the scuttle (Scuttle above baron pit, very close to top river bush) I flash ignite flip jarvan into the shyvana. Im so close to her that a teemo could auto attack her. She definitely sees me.

Both collapse on me because they were scared. Shyvana continues getting scuttle, ignoring the free double an lets me die.

She then continues onward to chase them, while shes at full health, and they are about 15% health.

Throughout a bumblefounded 10 second chase of missing everything and doing literally everything wrong, she gives the enemy yasuo a double buff.

So once again, you can spoonfeed your teammates all you want, but if they dont take it you just fuckin lose. People can and will turn free double kills into a free double kill for the enemy team.

Evil Yasuo2 votes

Back in the day I carried a 3v5 in ranked with pre-rework Talon. The 2 people on our team said we were wasting time so quit. I told my team to get dragons, let me have farm and to set up a trap so I could ambush and I ended up carrying. Was my crowning achievement in LoL.

Let's face it, this game in this state is basically unplayable. Community is the definition of total garbage (yet I'm still playing this game cuz of friends, otherwise I'd never even think about playing it anymore), champion balance is non-existing for two seasons already and individual skill doesn't really matter (unless you are challenger or whatever is concidered "high elo" and your teammates at least know what a turret is.).

I never was a real fan of playing rankeds in league because whenever you queue in, there are basically two scenarios (played at all ELOs and let it be on P5).

If you have a troll / afk / tilted guy / whatever else there really is and you lose no matter what. Yes, you heard it, there is ALMOST no chance of winning, yes, you can try and maybe you can make it a 50 minute game or even win, but in most cases you just lose. And what happends with that troll guy? You've guessed it, NOTHING. I have one friend which is leaving games occasionally, feeding every second game and you know what was the worst punishement he got? 10 games longer queue or whatever you call it. Good, right?

On the other hand, if you don't have a troll / afk / whatever else there is, you can enjoy this game to some saying. But ye, then imagine farming for 20 minutes, trying to be as ready as possible to fight and rengar jumps on you and oneshots you. What is an outplay to that stuff? (Rengar was my first thought cuz I've played him and there is literally NO outplay to that champ. People can try to flash, people can try to heal, people can do zhonyas, but lets be real, you R has 30-ish second cooldown, ain't that a lil' broken huh?.. But we all know there are more champs which are THAT broken or however you call it).

About normals eventhough they are not mentioned in original post. I preffer playing normals over rankeds (with almost 4250+ games in normal draft). And normals.. Half of the time you meet guys saying "just normal" "my brother said I should try this game" "sorry I have never played this game before" and so on. I don't feel like normal is just a gamemode where you can troll and not get punished. Let's be real, if you wanna troll, go and play bots because you will win anyways (yet I have some defeats in bots, someone tell me how did I lose those xd). Like.. there are still people sitting with you in that game and trying to have fun, which you are clearly ruining for the by having 0/10 and calling it "just having some time, cuz its JUST normal". Like.. No, thats not right, but reports in normals.. Haha, I feel like you would have to be extremely toxic to get punished.

Sometimes I even go and lookup those feeding accounts and stuff. Their whole matchhistory can be red with negative scores (not talking about a bit negative, talking about pure obvious inting), and who cares? Who is gonna stop them from playing another one and losing it for their team? Talking with a support about those things is pointless of course (although CZ/SK support is so cool).

But who is gonna change all of that? Noone. Riot had a chance to proove that they can do something. Yes, they chose to make 150 more skins that cost ONLY 1350+rp because we all wanted them right? (and no, I'm not some poor guy complaining about skins only cuz I can't afford them - I myself have 140+ skins..)

If it was not for my friends, I would NEVER play this game again. Yes, it is addctive, yes it WAS fun, but not anymore, those times are long gone. Probably I feel like that because I'm getting older and stuff but this game is definitely not a healthy game to play..

And as it has always been, noone from RIOT will even bother to read this stuff eventhough their forums are filled with people complaining.. But yea, its an addictive game and unless there is some competition, people will still playing it no matter what, so why would they waste their resources on fixing it ;)..

TsTy ;)

THIS FKIGN GAME IS SO FKING BAD RIGHT NOW. I HONESTLY HOPE THAT IT GETS BETTER OR IT DIES

Pierce The Veal2 votes

Neither will happen outright. We’ll balance in between the two before a series of Riot messups and competitor successes take them out of business.

Riot/Tencent has enough money to put any competitor out of business or buy them outright.

Even Tencent won’t spend money that won’t turn a profit.

If you want strategic play and long games that reward skill, itemization, and great thinking over abusing poorly balanced characters and items go play dota, aswell the dota skin system is way better than LoLs

Pierce The Veal2 votes

I really wanted to get into dota, but I couldn’t get over the clunky feeling, especially with turn speed. Otherwise I like a lot of dota’s champions and gameplay mechanics.

rtbf2476264232 votes

yes theres turnrates unlike in LOL where there is no turnrate, and it's got a "clunky feeling" because it's more about taking your time and planning things out rather than picking someone then spamming all buttons

Pierce The Veal1 votes

And I don’t like the spam in LoL, but in Dota2 that clunky feel makes it actually feel really bad to play, even though I like everything else about the game. I don’t like having to calculate some extremely slow turn rates just so I can last hit.

WiIdcard1 votes

The champions. Riot keeps releasing newer and more unbalanced champs while buffing champs like Yi and nerfing the already unplayable champs. They fking nerf support items

Pierce The Veal2 votes

I’m not saying they play favorites, but it does seem certain champions are just allowed to be outright more powerful.

You’ll have champions like renekton or kassadin who are legitimately early only and late game only champions respectively, but then there’re champions like yasuo, jax, draven, kai’sa, and several others that are good at every point in the game, and in fact outdo the previously mentioned champions at their moments of strength.

Illabethe1 votes

LMFAO @ Renekton being early only. He hasn't been early only since Shojins. If he gets fed, he has an almost unstoppable late game, even if you play ALL your cards right.

Pierce The Veal2 votes

His winrate drops 5% over the course of a game, at 52.5% before 25 minutes to 47.5% after 40 minutes. The statistics do not lie. I too feel like renekton is pretty strong late game, but in reality he’s not that strong, and he’s by far not as good of a shojin user as most.

Pantheon is another example.
