Update KDA to Reflect Gameplay

KDA is fine I suppose, as it is, but we've all been there when the tank support is called trash because they're 0/5/14. To that end I’d recommend the following changes:

  1. Kills and assists should be merged into one number. No changes in the assignments of gold, but as a matter of public record, we should do away with the KS-mentality of the final point of damage gets the kill.

  2. The KDA record should show the number of objectives taken by that player. This should include structures where the minion gave the final point of damage. As above, assists and kills should be the same number. I also think this number should reflect the number of dragon and baron kills/assists.

  3. **The KDA numbers should also show the number of wards placed. **It strikes me as odd that I can see what another player is building (item-wise), and offer advice to them based on that metric, but not on warding which universally is more applicable to the player than a particular build on a particular champ.

In short, the current KDA doesn't paint an accurate picture of who is contributing to the team most. And worse off, it can give you skewed information. I'm asking that that data collected accurately reflect the contribution to the match. To clarify, since it isn't mentioned above, no change is recommended for the death count and should therefore remain as it currently it.

Only bad players only look at KDA for team contribution.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here and just ask you to expand on your response. But if the KDA is as useless as your suggesting, that you should agree with me that changes are needed.

Nope, they don't. If that is true, then all MOBAs and other games would have done it a long time ago.

Done what?

What I'm trying to say is, K/D/A has been used and is still in use by ALL MOBAs, FPS, and other types of games. This is a huge population sample and people like this system.

A system happening to be in games, does not mean that there is any sort of sample or that it was polled and much less that it means that people like it. e.g. Micro-transaction are abundant in games and people hate those.

Riot have employees constantly scrolling through the forums reading threads (community feedback). What makes you think other popular games like DOTA/Smite don't have employees scrolling through their forums as well.

This has been a system that is approved by majority of the players. Otherwise, there would be a large amount of upvotes for this threads or other threads in other games complaining about this K/D/A system.

If people don't have polls or threads complaining about K/D/A. That means that they are fine with the system itself.

Here's an analogy for you. If you get assaulted and you have proof of the assault, will you not sue the person that assaulted you?

People always complain/report about the things that they hate, and K/D/A is not the issue here.

"If people don't have polls or threads complaining about K/D/A. That means that they are fine with the system itself." No, it does not mean that. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

"Here's an analogy for you. If you get assaulted and you have proof of the assault, will you not sue the person that assaulted you? That analogy does not follow because it is specifically concerned with evidence and you are making an argument based upon there being a lack of evidence.

I have a lot to say about this "No, it does not mean that. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." of yours.. but this will be a waste of time... I don't got all day to argue with ya ;P.

Just look at the downvotes of this post. The end. We don't need a change.

No, we don't need a change; I said that myself. I was pointing out that your argument for that didn't follow.

"I don't got all day to argue with ya ;P." But that is what forums are for! DX

He should not because these changes are not only unhelpful but detrimental to the in-game experience.

You suggest that "1. Kills and assists should be merged into one number." when in doing so, that would not defeat the "KS" mentality, players who believe in that would steal and want the takedown themselves, but it would make it that much harder to judge the strength of players both on the enemy team and on your own. The A number does not "accurately reflect the contribution to the match" anymore than the K number (and certainly not the D number) so combining them especially won't help. Nor does the amount of wards spammed out or Dragon assists. The entire concept is massively wrongheaded.

Trying to make KDA into some set of numbers that don't stand for your KDA is a terrible idea, roughly on par with trying to replace your cars speedometer with a "speedometer" that only shows how much gas you're currently using.

Could other numbers be used or emphasized? Sure. But what you're posting makes it sound like you want to turn a KDA into some other metric but keep the same name because... I have no idea why you'd want to keep the same name.

A plethora of detailed stats exist post game and in match history online. I don't see how any further information would be helpful. The quantity of information needed for determining a player's game contribution is too large to be helpful while in game.

If the tank support is dying to protect and let carries escape, then the people calling him/her trash are just bad and no amount of performance data will fix their perspective.
