So in about 9 months when you rework ryze for the 16th time

Remove his mana scaling.

There's no feasible way ryze can be balanced with this concept. You either nerf his numbers around this until the point where he's total shit or you buff them slightly where he becomes a hyper scaling lane bully once he completes item 3070 or item 3010. Then you factor in his low CD root that does damage and can effectively keep one target in place for a long time without almost any counterplay, there's no way you can balance around this.

He spikes too hard with mana items and always will considering there's a plethora of mana items. You keep him short range as an intention of "counterplay" but because of this, you have to give him spells/abilities to be durable or help kite/chase which make him an even more ridiculous laner in general.

Honestly late game ryze is pretty average because he can be focused pretty easily. The part where people have problems with him is during lane phase where he completes tear and catalyst and just straight up 100-0s you for buying mana.

I don't even know if ryze is good or not right now and I don't care how many visual reworks you give him, how many Warcraft things you steal and add to his kit or how less blue you make him, here's the point. As long as he continues to have damage that scales with mana he will always be broken. Trash or OP, no in between. And that's because of how stupid his mana scaling becomes. I don't know how many more reworks it will take for you to figure that out but Riot Ryze is gonna have to find another champion to be Op.

CD: 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9

He maxes this last. So even with 40% Cooldown reduction, at it's 5th ranked, you can root them for 5.4 seconds. Hmm...It's not effectively "short" considering it's range and damage aren't good and like you said, late game Ryze gets blown up pretty easily so in order to effectively take advantage of the 5.4 second cooldown, you'd need to be close to people constantly, and that's not the best idea late game. Also, If he messes his combo up, he's stuck for a while. New Ryze is much stronger in the mid game than before however, his late game isn't all that well since he lost his easy AOE damage potential for team fights (and stacking E in fights is only really possible if they clump and let you).

While you make good points, I don't think Ryze could ever be _ Ryze _ without the mana scaling. Maybe Riot could make it so, if he builds the mana build, he has more utility, but if he builds AP, he has more damage. Though I'm unsure as to how that would work out.

I know you're just trolling and I laughed but if anyone truly believes this, you're a goof.

Having an M instead of an A at the start of Ryze's arbitrary favorite damage stat has absolutely nothing to do with why he was ever a problem in any incarnation.

Yes it does. Did you read anything I said at all?

Yeah. Your entire post has exactly zero points as to why mana is unbalance-able as a damage stat. All you say is that mana items are too strong, which has a really easy solution (nerf them and/or Ryze's mana ratios) before talking about other issues with his kit that are completely unrelated.

They have nerfed his mana ratios, flat mana has also been buffed

The reason why mana as a damage scaling stat is bad because you can spend so little gold on it and get two huge spikes while also benefiting from the mana items themselves. So it allows champions to double, sometimes triple dip into these really awkward HP/off tank builds .

The other part is how insane spikes are when they buy mana items, it's a bonus resource plus damage at the same time. And that has proven to be a problem over and over. He doesn't have any setbacks or down time on his spikes, he buys mana and he's scaled. And that won't ever change even when they tried this in his last rework by nerfing his mana ratios and buffing his AP ratios

He's a little overtuned, but it's not due to mana scaling. He actually scales pretty poorly on mana, and while mana items do help, it's not until you combine them with AP where he really begins to become powerful. I've personally noticed after a certain point that his Mana scaling starts to dump off really hard, and it's better to roll into AP.
