Nice strawman.

What people said is that it favors ranged champions since they can proc it from distance. Which actually is the case.

I slightly exaggerated the view of most people. I did find large numbers of people complaining that it would break the game for melees, and even a few saying that it would make melee jungle impossible.

In this case it's more of an exaggeration. I will have to admit that I too was way too sceptical of the plants in general (didn't see the melee vs ranged discussion tho) as I too thought they were way too weird and awkward. Whelp, turns out I was super wrong and they are fun and feel amazing to use.

I thought it was because people just didn't wanna the RNG because they thought it would make the game too random or something like that.

I think the timer makes it feel less RNG and more of a strategy like baron and drag. The spawn at the same point at a set time interval after being taken. I love them. Trying to steal red but find yourself caught? Blast cone to safety (hopefully)!

I member when plants had more RNG to them and spawned in way more places instead of being fixed to one

I still think they're trash and whoever thought them up should be demoted to janitor

I still think the fact that we got plants in the jungle the greatest contrivance of "strategy" riot has ever implemented in this game, and to think we gave up smite rewards for it too.
