Am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of outside influences?

I'd rather just see buffs to every champion and get rid of runes and masteries entirely.

I actually wouldn't mind this as well! Would make it a lot easier to balance.

I bring it up every time they make huge mastery or rune changes, usually once a year. It's almost always met with negative responses.

I think it would especially have a good effect on new players. I'm trying to teach my girlfriend how to play now, and she gets matched against people with keystones while she's level 6 and can't even use keystones.

There's plenty of downside. For one, new people don't have the same access, so on top of the massive learning curve, they have to deal with being matched with people using keystones that they can't use.

Another is champion balance. If a certain mastery makes one champion overpowered, say release dft on swain for example, do you nerf the champion or the mastery? Nerf the mastery and you ruin it for the rest of the champs, nerf the champion and you ruin that whole multiple playstyles thing you were talking about.

That's just straight up not true. Like I said before, I started a brand new account to teach my girlfriend, by level 6 we were facing teams with three or more players having keystones.

As for champion balance, they've nerfed champs based solely on performance with a certain mastery, multiple times, then they nerf the mastery and never buff the champ again. It's a problem that doesn't have to exist.

Riot has 0 ways of determining whether a new account is a smurf or a new player, so I think you're just talking out your ass here.
