I wonder if Riot is preparing for the coming storm....

I'm calling it right now....when new runes ship out, it's going to be an absolute shit storm on social media. We are going to see the clickbait videos go up titled.. "RUNES KILLED LEAGUE OF LEGENDS?" and articles claiming that League is dying for years to come. There will be an immense amount of people on the boards complaining that the runes reforged change is a game killer and that League is a dead game. Im expecting at least 100 daily posts of disgruntled veterans saying "League used to be cool IM QUITTING."

I'm also calling it right now... 95% of these players are going to keep playing and learning the new system.

Change is hard.. but necessary. Riot has to know the system changing is going to take a lot of work, and I hope that they don't let things "play out" how they have with recent trends. Im hoping to see a balance change in runes EVERY patch to address the playerbase as we learn the op combinations.

EDIT: 11/15 Just necroing my own post to tell you "I told you so."[slayer-jinx-catface]

Riot's problem is that they should've branched off and made a second game years ago (arguably they should be nearing their 3rd). Instead, they're now throwing away parts of the old game, which followed a completely different design, in order to add in the new parts.

It's pretty neglectful of your players imo.

Nothing is going to "kill league" just like nothing "killed wow". What's going to happen is riot is going to keep shifting their design philosophy and eventually, in a sense, disenfranchise so many players that they will lose most of them. It's death by a thousand cuts, not by execution.

Agreed to an extent.

I don't think its avoidable for any game though.

You either keep a game the same and it gets stale, or you make changes to a game that players already love, and lose players.

They sound prepared. One of them even admitted that the new runes are scary, so I feel good about it.

If they sounded like this was no big deal, I'd be more worried. Instead, they seem fully aware that this is going to be a return to the wild west for awhile, until we all figure things out.

Yeah I have faith this will be overall good for the game. I just know the mess that's coming xD

Preseason always is, it's the best time of year.

.Personally the year riot does not take a risk is a year I will be disappointed with them. Started season 1 and came over from dota allstars, I thought their decision to separate scaling into ad and ap was cool as hell (INT or AGI main.) As well as how they tryed to make each class scale off items not just exp, found that at the time to be pretty ballsy. I approve that they are willing to risk mistakes or go ham on things even when its very clear there will be kickback on it. I'm alright if they screw up long as they learn something from it. Ultimately what I don't want to see is riot become tame and watch lol stagnate.Rune/mastery rework is pretty big as they have been rather stable for years, kind of interesting to see what happens next with new groundwork setup.

Its a bit off topic but in the off chance any reds drop into this post I really hope they take this opportunity to revamp their new/struggling player experience and update tutorials, add some beginner missions to starting accounts to teach mechanics. I feel we have a wide enough champion pool that it might be time for riot to just give new accounts 1 easy to pick up champion for each role rather then rely on the free week rotations exclusively. Then again the Loot system update might fix that issue for new players.

I think were going to see a lot of number tweaks every 2 weeks in preseason till everything is 'normalized'

This hype about League is dying.. People have been saying this game is dead since beta. Endless amount of forum posts talks about how the game is dead and people are quitting. But it seems like as one person quits, 10 thousand joins. LoL will never officially die. Normally when someone does quit, they come back. Maybe in a week, month or even years, but 99% of them always come back. No matter how bad someone wants this game to end, it simply won't. In 3 months, another million will join. Just how it is. All I can say is, as a beta player, Welcome to League of Legends. The neverending game.

that is cause riot is lucky there is no real competitor at the moment the only game close is overwatch and dota, the problem is overwatch is essentially a different game and dota is less user friendly to casual players

one a real moba games comes out this pathetic excuse for a game riot created will cease to exist

There are plenty of MobA competitors, but Overwatch isn't one of them. That's like comparing Call of Duty to DotA. DotA been around since Starcraft before it went to Warcraft 3. League of Legends existed 7 years later after DotA did.

Past is the past. It's unhealthy to dwell on it.

The game is already in a horrible state, it can't be worse than it is now.
