The possible problem with supports in Mobas
So after comparing supports from MMORPGS, to rpgs, to than compare them to mobas, I finally realized the issue with supports in mobas, that maybe riot can fix if they and we alter our perception on what a support is.
A support for the most part, is a character who has the following
-utility abilities -defensive abilities -stat altering abilities
For rpgs this would be the white mage or the enchanter classes
for mmorpgs, this would be classes such as healer and mostly the mage classes in general
However Mobas do something that most rpgs and mmorpgs don't do.
They make support classes mandatory for your party.
In a final fantasy game, you can easily create a team comp that focuses on damage dealers and tanks, and get by just fine without a healer.
For MMORPGS the games are often designed so you can play solo on any class you want. For MMORPGS they especially have to do this, other wise it would make the game impossible to play for players who tend to be introverts and play solo. The only exception to this would be very difficult raids, where you need just about everything on your team to win. But depending on which game, a "support" class, may still not be necessary to win a raid.
For example on the game of vindictus or black dessert their is no support class, only dps and tank classes.
The issue i'm trying to get at here, is for league of legends, especially in high elo, the support class is mandatory to have if you want to win.
Healers such as sorrakaor sona Utility pick makers like thresh Front line pure CC champs like braum or nautlist
Those classes tend to be less popular, people much rather be part of the action and getting kills. It takes a special personality to enjoy playing "team white mage"
So what i'm saying here, what is wrong with league of legends, is the problem almost all mobas share.
it's the only genre of game that makes support MANDATORY to play. Especially on high level play.
