It's funny how Brand is considered more of a support than Orianna

There's a difference between playing as a support and playing as a mage bot with an ADC >.>

Excuse my lack of knowledge if I'm wrong, but I've always known Orianna as a control mid mage. Was she once a support?

Her E and kinda her W make her a "meh" support.

Orianna can be played as a support because of her shield and her speed up and her ball passive, I actually prefer it to orianna mid

She is a control mid but the fact is that she is 10x more qualified to be a support than brand is.

She is ten times less qualified than Brand is by virtue of being more gold-reliant than he is.

She is and aways has been a Support, just like Lux and Morganna. Not all Supports are chained to an ADC.

Is this in response to the support free rotation? I think it's just because riot didn't want a bunch of feeding oriannas running around, she does have a high skill floor than most other supports.

Orianna support isn't that hard

I mean, Lulu isn't part of the free support rotation either.

Lulu support actually requires prior support knowledge to play decently, so that's also why Brand is part of it. To get bad inexperienced players to play support, of course.

Even the dreaded lux is more of a support thanks to how much raw utility her kit has

it is because what qualifies a champion into the support position is not his kit but his impact running on low income. generally these champions have high utility because utility has very high base value. orianna is a utility mage but her utility scales massively with ap and is fairly poor with out, this is also why lulu was played top and mid for a while until they nerfed her wave clear and karma is sometimes played mid. brand on the other hand is a battle mage but has very high base damage. for a quick story i just had a game where we and specificaly I played very poorly, i as brand support did the most damage of the team.

I find it funny how any mage support is a support over JarvanIV .

Literally everything in his entire kit seems to work well for a support: P - Percent current health on enemy damage means he's great in short trades and can deal damage despite not building it. Q - Poke damage to harass enemy ADC and armor shred to help increase his and his ally's damage during skirmishes. W - a shield that also slows enemies E - An aura that gives his ADC attack speed. Also the E-Q combo to give CC and engage for his ADC, also potentially AOE CC. R - high base damage (again doesn't need to build a ton), also good for escaping (can trap enemy then E-Q out while ADC runs), good for gank assist, etc...

Literally not one thing in his kit that wouldn't help a support. However admittedly there's nothing great for a support... Just funny how something like Brand works because he can chain two abilities in to a stun, but J4 doesn't. Well, also because brand just drops boatloads of damage without building it... but yea...

I've tried Orianna support; it's too mana expensive, the shield can be too slow to reach it's target, and she requires a ton of AP to really deal her damage AND give an effective shield.

Brand builds MPen and does near true damage as max HP% so he can throw in a FQC and sightstone without losing out his entire damage.

cant really do much against a brand support running a build something like this item 2302 1900 gold is SUPER cheap fastest access to 10% cdritem 3096 without deviating from your first item buy and the sustain is nothing to scoff at. this is a personal favorite and in general works better for me then item 2301 due to the health regen through clearing waves. item 3020 cuz boots item 3050 mana cdr armor and ap plus a good passive for adc to do more damage aka kill stuff quick item 3001 mr magic damage boost and also cheap item 3151 magic pen and works great with his kit if for some reason they build retarded amounts of mr you can always switch it out with a item 3135 item 3107 hey look at me i can heal now PLUS do damage

40% cdr 190 ap 1100 bonus health 60 bonus mr 30 bonus armor so you wont die in 0.5 seconds either. 30 mpen if you stack some with runes you can have up to 39-50 mpen(which you can safely do since most of your utility comes from dishing out lots of base damage through your passive against any adc that does not build a item 3139 you will do true damage in combination with item 3001 you will actually do a lot more. (10% more then true damage how crazy is that?) btw a rune page with mpen marks glyph's and quints will do more damage from lvl 4 and higher the total base damage for a full mpen runepage to do more damage is roughly 380 damage(some champs can reach that at lvl 2!!!) now this forces any squishy champion to invest into mr before they can start building crit safely.

Well Orianna actually requires gold to do dmg (and she doesnt do all that much dmg early) which isnt really available to her if shes sharing a lane. Brand doesnt need alot of gold and still does a considerable and noticable amount of dmg that can snowball pretty early, and dont forget he has a relatively reliable stun, a reason zyra started to appear out of the Clockwork/Woodwork (LUL).

Orianna doesn't provide much without itemization relative to other supports.
