Similar to Vayne
I'm pretty worried about this. Not because Vayne is consistently viable regardless of item changes though. I'm actually quite welcoming of a second ADC able to do so. What worries me is that we already got that, and it was and still is a failure of a champion.
Kindred and Vayne's strengths are extremely similar,:
-
Q- They both have short cooldown, damaging dashes.
-
E- They both have single-target CC.
-
(Kindred's old Passive) W- They both have %HP damage on autos (prior to Kindred's recent unwarranted nerfs)
-
R- They both have methods to stay safe from assassins (this is the loosest comparison)
However, the risks presented to Kindred are more difficult to overcome than Vayne's, in exchange for less of a reward. Vayne's risks are her relative weakness to lane bullies and her short range. But her strengths over Kindred's similar kit are as follows:
- Q - Empowered auto attack. That may not seem like much, but it applies her silver bolts and doesn't break the flow of her auto attacks for BoRK. Whereas Kindred's Q does break that flow and doesn't apply on-hit effects. It may increase attack speed, but her base attack speed is lower.
- E - Stun. The benefits of a stun over a slow are pretty clear. The recent Kindred change made hers an execute, but at the cost of lowering her ability to get people low enough to execute them in the first place.
- %HP true damage - removes either health or armor as defensive options, and so scales far better into late game than physical damage. Kindred's original marks were similar in their strength, but where Vayne gets her less defensible damage from levels Kindred needed to collect marks. Marks that the enemy can easily prevent her from getting. Now, it's even worse. Her %HP damage was moved to Wolf's W attacks, which are far slower.
- R- Doesn't make enemies invulnerable or heal them. Of course, these abilities are entirely different, but where Vayne's cloak helps keep her safe from assassins, Kindred's ultimate keeps her and the assassin safe.
I've long been asking for Kindred changes to fix her flaws-- stat increases so she can actually counter-jungle, or a removal of the death mark from the enemy's map, maybe even an ultimate that fits their theme. But they've done nothing for the champion.
All I can ask for now is that the new champion not fall flat like Kindred did. Kindred was designed mainly to allow people to pick Mordekaiser or something bot and have their ADC be the jungler, but executed poorly to the point that Ezreal can do that better. Luckily, they're not aiming for a jungling ADC, so we may get something worth playing after three weeks.
