What is a good, safe AP mid pick for first pick?

Just wondering because man, in my last three games in a row, the client gave me

FIRST PICK.

Two of them I was mid lane, and since I'm a AP main, I go for my mages. First game I wasn't sure what to do so I went with my usual pick, Lux.

Got manhandled by LB. :>(

Second game: Lissandra. Did alright against Orianna in lane but got camped by a RAKAN jungler, and our top fed Morde to hell so I couldn't do anything.

Third game was support, so I went Sona into Braum and that turned out good.

Anyway, to get to the point- who is safe mid lane as a first pick? I'm not sure anymore cause of this. I HATE first pick. Ugh.

Sona Midlane sucks. But I can guarantee they won't counterpick you.

For real though, I don't know your ELO, but don't worry about counterpicks. If you are good on a champ you can beat most enemies.

I said I was support- meaning I went bot lane with Sona. I don't take her mid unless I feel like just wanting to have some fun in a normal game.

And I tend to disagree. I'm silver 2 and I always pick and choose around counterpicks. Look at LB, she countered my Lux. Couldn't do shit against her and she snowballed to hell. On top of that my ADC was harassing me for losing when I couldn't do much.

I'm looking for safe picks in the mid lane, preferably AP mages.

Morgana Play passive, go even in every lane. Outscale every early game champion. You don't out scale late game champs and you're not as useful as most utility mages, but you can help lock them down for the rest of your team.

Ahri Morgana Malzahar Orianna Taliyah and if you are good at him Viktor

Those are about as safe of picks as you can get mid lane

Edit: A couple more if you are good at them Anivia AurelionSol , they are both really clunky to get used to though

I do Ahri, Morg but don't like taking them all the time. Don't like Malzahar. Ori I like, Taliyah played a few times but not good with her yet. Never played Vik.

Anivia is nice too. I want to learn Sol also.

You can't really go wrong with morg midlane or fiddledicks if you are confident in him. both have strong enough cc to not really be put off if they pick ad or ap and have great waveclear/poke combos.
