I wonder how long it will take for Riot to see the error of their ways

and just scrap this stupid, awful BE system (runes as well, one can hope!)

Riot,

I hope you are listening to me when I speak for just about the whole dissatisfied playerbase- DO NOT wait as long as you did to remove Dynamic Que as you will the BE/rune system.

People are still not happy with these new changes, and no, no matter how much you say "oh look at these charts, you get MORE BE than before," - WE DON'T. That math is false because people are still getting awful amounts of BE for all the hard work they did just to grind a few damn levels.

  • Grinding takes forever, and the rewards for that grinding are awful (Oooo, four awful 270 champ shards and a dinky icon for a level 40 levelup, YAYY!)** NOT!**

  • OE was nerfed terribly and the loot boxes barely give us anything now

  • 50 BE after every game now is still pretty terrible I meant 50 BE after every first win of the day

  • We can't even reroll our champ shards anymore if we get ones we already own, or don't want, so only choice is to use them or disenchant for a awful 1/5th of the price.

  • Runes were basically taken away, and an awful updated version of "masteries" was given back to us, which has a whole host of problems. Too much damage, too little resistances. Not enough customization. Loss of a lot of runes that many people used for different champs and different matchups.

  • Now have to spend an awful lot of BE just to get a new "rune" page, which is terrible.

  • After all of this, this really shows that Riot doesn't really care about the happiness of their players and just want to fill their pockets.

Harsh, I know, but I think it's the truth.

I think I summoned up everything, but if I missed anything guys, please let me know.

Riot, please reverse this before its too late! You didn't need to change something that wasn't broken to begin with.

You should not claim to speak for the entire community when you clearly don't.

A lot of people are happy about the runes. Pretending like everyone agrees with you and making flat demands is not the way to get Riot to listen to your concerns. I think it is unfair to dismiss runes reforged instead of trying to fix it.

Edit: edited for accuracy / politeness.

I never claimed about the "entire community."

I said "the whole dissatisfied playerbase," meaning ALL of the people who hate this new system, which right now, IMO, is way more than the people who are "happy" about it.

I summoned up all the complains I've found on this board and across social media, so it speaks for all those people, so yes, a lot of them agree. I didn't claim that "everyone" did.

I asked Riot, not demanded it.

Please learn to read before you spit out accusations like that.

Thanks!

Noted. What do you have against runes, if I might ask? Why should they be scrapped and reverted instead of just tweaked or modified?

Just requoting what I had put in another comment.

"The customization that was lost was for different champions that you played that needed different pages for different match ups. You are just probably one of the minority that had only two dinky pages cause thats how you played, but the majority had A LOT.

Even Brofresco had multiple pages in the old system (Youtuber). I had multiple pages for my champions. I had one for AD, one for AP Burst champs, one for AP support, one for AP jungle/AD jungle, Tanks for top lane, Tanks for Support, and then some pages that were for some specific champs like Zyra who likes a lot of MPen but needs health cause she's so damn squishy, and things like that.

Thats what we lost. Many people had different pages depending on the champ they played and the match up. I would pick from HP yellows, armor yellows, magic resist/cdr/mana blues, and different quints such as armor/magic resist/health/ability power/attack damage and more, hell even movement speed! I would play around and change things up every once in awhile.

Then on top of that, I would switch around my masteries as well. Sometimes I would dip in ALL THREE trees, go like 6-18-6 for Irelia, or 0-18-12 if I was going against a freaking Zed mid or something for my AP mage.

I lost all of that with this stupid new "rune" system, which is just a glorified MASTERY rework which took out a lot. We can only dive into TWO trees, so if I want to get some defense I have to sacrifice damage for the most part, instead of going damage the whole two trees (like precision and sorcery, for example). I lost a lot of my defensive runes, and being an AP main, kinda got screwed out by Riot like usual cause they gave AD all the cool stuff.

Just like many others, we lost so much in terms of customization and we aren't happy about it."

That about sums it up.

This.

The complexity and depth of strategy and builds were a large part of what was so refreshing about this game. The trend in gaming has been to dumb games down and remove any complex or detailed stat building. This is intentionally done (in the name of balance, yeah right) so that games are more kid friendly and have a lower learning curve for noobs and casuals. It just finally came around to Riot a few years ago when they achieved a good hold on the industry, or maybe that was the plan all along.

It's all about the $$$

You didn't pay attention to the conversation as to why the change was made.

The old system gave an illusion of choice when in reality there were only a few builds that were giving the best performance with a couple of masterpiece that were optional because they didn't matter. It you used some off brand build then you were literally doing it wrong and were putting yourself at a disadvantage.

When Riot looked at the data the vast majority had cookie cutter builds and the others either made no sense, were lacking due to runes not owned, otherwise following a faulty logic that actually made your character worse than an opponent if they had the correct runes.

As for the rest of it, I hav everything I want and still 300k be. Too many people want everything, for free, RIGHT NOW.

I did pay attention and it's the same bullshit that ghostcrawler argued when he destroyed WoW. The min max arguement comes only from the point of stat effectiveness, but it completely discounts the versatility offered by the game. I will agree that a majority of players use a cookie cutter build, but that is because the majority of players don't understand the game well enough to make their own that works. You can't say that off meta builds are doing it wrong because there are so many variables that can alter playstyle and thats before we count intended playstyle in the first place. Removing these layers or depth makes it even more cookie cutter because we don't have the option to not min max anymore.

This is literally the exact same thing that ghostcrawler did to WoW, and look what happened there.. They lost a good third of their playerbase pretty much overnight, and a lot more in the next week or month. it's painfully obvious that this was never done because of the min max arguement given, but was done to simplify the game to target a younger or more casual (fan service for the bads and noobs) demographic. The game has a steep learning curve and they are just trying to cut down on that, which detracts from the game if not ruins what I enjoyed about it.

I think you're lacking imagination then for the new system. You gave Zyra as an example. Happens to be my most played champ all the way back from her launch. Sure full magic pen was fun when the enemy thought they could get away with no magic resist bot lane but it was the same choice I made EVERY game because nothing else was particularly worth it.

Now there are some interesting opportunities.

  1. Dark Harvest has given me some crazy mid-late game burst doing up to 15k in a 30 min game.
  2. Aftershock in the Resolve tree results in some pretty laughable bait situations where they commit, get rooted and now you have 20 bonus armor.
  3. Since Zyra has one of the longest AA range in the game and can proc Lethal Tempo easily instead of getting in 1 AA after an ability you get in 2 or 3 and that's a whole bunch of harass.
  4. Fleet Footwork gives her the movement speed she craves with a touch of sustain which is helpful.
  5. Even Press the Attack can be a game changer if you're in a lane where you can sneak in 3 AAs then drop your combo with the 12% bonus for both you and your ADC.

All of these are MUCH more interesting choices than do I go magic pen or.... magic pen... hmm.

I think you misunderstand the situation. Two things happened, they reworked masteries, and they removed runes. With the old system (let's say they kept rework) you could still choose passives from masteries like the examples you gave, BUT you could also buff her with flat and scaling stats to make any of those 5 choices you gave even more viable. And just because you go full mag pen doesn't mean you can't have multple pages with full mag pen. Armor vs a kill lane, mag resist vs ap supp, shit I even used to run mp5 on some matchups, or cdr for some matchups. The point is that you had options that are no longer there, there is no arguing that.

Alright I see your points. I disagree, but I respect your stance on this.

LightIsMyPath2 votes

I can't speak for OP but about myself: I had 5 different rune pages and 3 different mastery pages I used for my man champion alone. That's 75 possible combinations if math is not fooling me. Now I use 3 (!!!) different rune pages.. Runes are pretty cool and I like them way more than old ones.. If picking single runes was feasible. The paths structure feels so terrible for me it's not even fun creating a page. Laughable damage vs power only in the river vs late game power I'll never be able to reach.. And I HAVE to choose one of them if I pick the right keystone for my champion.. Really? I feel the exact same way I did when my mum said "you have to eat vegetables if you want the meat. And no dessert for you cause you already eat 2 portions (meat+vegetables)" .

I would be fine with this system if they scrapped the path rigidity and tuned the runes so they don't have to lock branches to avoid certain combinations to be too strong. But as it is now might as well buff everyone and remove the pregame entirely if there's so little choice anyway

TeCoolMage1 votes

Scorch is not laughable damage. The amount of cheese you can pull off in a melee vs ranged matchup is brutal with that rune. 500-1000 damage by the end of laning phase

24 AP is nothing to laugh at either, and 40 AP is really really good, even at 30 minutes a 900~ gold's worth lead is huge.

LightIsMyPath2 votes

It is laughable damage aside from early game, where I wouldn't want it anyway cause I lack pressure. I literally never had a gamer where the stacking of gathering was useful since at that point is usually "are you stomping? then you are being stomped". They may be good for you but the point is I don't like them, I don't want them.. why am I forced to get them??? it's a complete waste of a slot for my personal way of playing, but I guess one is not allowed to have a "personal"way of setting up anymore with this rigid system (unless it's one of the few selected from them)

TeCoolMage1 votes

I wouldn't want it anyway cause I lack pressure

Oookay so you don't like the idea of the rune because it doesn't fit your playstyle? 60 damage isn't bad either, it's not particularly good but it's not bad especially if you poke occasionally.

I literally never had a gamer where the stacking of gathering was useful since at that point is usually "are you stomping? then you are being stomped"

Then play safer. 'omg snowball OP' is a circlejerk perpetuated by bronze-gold players who heard plat+ complain about it occasionally. Gold players throw, and they throw hard.

They may be good for you but the point is I don't like them, I don't want them.. why am I forced to get them??? it's a complete waste of a slot for my personal way of playing, but I guess one is not allowed to have a "personal"way of setting up anymore with this rigid system (unless it's one of the few selected from them)

Right and the old system was better? What if I did want extra damage early in exchange for late? What if I wanted more damage when contesting dragon or baron in exchange for damage in lane or jungle? Why was I forced to take stats or be put at a disadvantage if I didn't like any of them?

Wow so rigid!

LightIsMyPath3 votes

Except with the presence of every single stat in the game it was basically impossible to not want ANY of them... AND if you read again my first comment you would notice I clearly said that I like the design of new runes way more then old ones.. it's the structure to get them that I hate ( paths and branches that locks each other). (ps: you could get more damage to jugnle vis masteries even if negligible)

This is part of the problem. If played correctly melee should only lose to ranged in the first few levels. If the melee has any sort of gap closer the ranged should have to blow cd's to disengage. You said it yourself, it is CHEESE.

TeCoolMage1 votes

Well, it depends on how hard they lose in the first few levels.

Generally if I deny the 1 wave and get first blood within the first 3 levels they lose the rest of the laning phase

If I don't, it just goes back to normal if the champ can outrange my poke with mobility (with a long range mobility spell like Fizz or Zed, or Riven QE)

For others it's still very difficult, those like pantheon or talon generally can't jump to me, and when they do it's in a predictable straight line.

So really it depends on whether they have more effective range than I do with their mobility, otherwise they lose.

That being said I do blow CDs to disengage very often

Oxyrotten2 votes

I would like to point out that is in the current meta and game build, which is completely busted. That is kind of my point. And of course it is dependent on a number of things, certain ranged champs should counter some melee, like jace/quinn and I hate to say it but teemos too. I really miss teemos being unviable unless counterpicked against a tryn or nasus, that was half the fun of playing teemos.

And if your denying gold and xp and getting fb/fed then yeah you should win laning, almost every matchup should be that way. But in the current game you can be fed af melee and ranged still craps all over you. Toplane is just in a horrid place right now.

TeCoolMage1 votes

My top lane experience as a mage main has been pretty different honestly, they build MR first back so even if I win lane I deny lots of gold and EXP but lose all kill pressure

Like I just had a Darius rush gargoyle into adaptive helm... Rip.

I guess it depends on the champion again, ranged ADs are understandably hard to build against, Teemo goes annoying bruiser rather than full on damage, as well as bet an auto attacker so mitigating his magic damage only deals with 1/3 of his advantages over a melee.

Honestly I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make but I guess it's that melee isn't weak, but rather the top lane champions that are ranged are strong because the matchups are a bit more fair when I play a mage rather than the unholy trio (Jayce, Quinn, teemo)

KindredAndWolf5 votes

I really TRIED to like the new runes, i really really did. I just don't. Riot could have upgraded the masteries like they do every year and left base stat allocation (old runes) up to us. Instead I have LESS choices than I did before the preseason and worst yet, my favorite keystones were just straight nerfed. Phase Rush and Press the attack are straight nerfs to storm raiders and Fervor. All my champs I love to play (Poppy, Kled, Aurelion Sol) are just shit now with no playstyle buffs in sight. Worst preseason since ive started the game.

I actually quite like the rune changes. Are they a bit overtuned in the damage department? Sure. Are they still way better than the old run system? Yes. Balance problems with the runes can be pretty easily balanced out, so reverting them just seems pointless. Out of curiosity, what was really lost in the rune changes, in terms of customization?

I agree, there is nothing wrong with the new system. People hate change and they bitch about it. It happens everytime there is a major change. You can't please everyone and RIOT knows this and goes on business as usual. Sure, there will be some tinkering with the new system but it's here to stay. For the OP to compare it to Dynamic Que tells me everything I need to know about him and there is no sense trying to argue with him. Bottom line is change happened and the usual suspects hate it.

LunarEdge71 votes

I think only the amount of BE needs to be tweaked.. And I wish both tree-paths gave stats imo.

Not just primary rune giving you adaptive dmg, but also health when secondary rune is resolve..

As for the reversion suggestion, I'm not sure.. the new rune system is so fun, yet it's just the flat stats from before that we miss, why not just ask them to find a way to add those in? Maybe a 3rd tree that has the old runes?

MysticDreams123 votes

Nothing about this new system is fun. It's just a glorified "mastery" rework that screwed us over.

Before? I used to play tons of games at night because of the pure fun of it and trying to rank up.

Now? I don't even play ranked anymore, I just play the games needed to get the first win of the day and try to get missions done, that's it. I can't even play for fun anymore cause the more games you play, the less XP you seem to get. And the grinding takes FOREVER

Yet you didn't explain anything. How is this even close to the problem created by Dynamic Que? There was a major reason why that didn't work and my money is on the fact that you have no idea WTF that is. No you didn't but ok whatever helps you sleep better. All you are doing is whining. You need to actually know what you are talking about before you put it in writing.

Deal with it. The new system is here to stay. Don't like it then play something else. This did not break the game like Dynamic Que did. HUGE difference. I am truly sorry you and so many other can't see that.

Unker1393 votes

I have no problem with the new system. The rune system is different but not worse. If anything, i am seeing more creativity in builds and how/where champions are used. My son is running teemo as adc in normal. I keep telling him its a bad idea, but he keeps winning with it so I guess I might be wrong. This probably wouldn't happen with the old system.

As far as the BE, I have no problem with the changes. They probably hurt me as I don't always get the first win bonus. However I still manage to unlock champions faster than I can learn to play them.

Hügö11 votes

The new runes give even less combinations. You can't build your rune page to counter your weakness anymore. 99% of the players use the same runes on the champions because it's the most efficient or there are no alternatives.

Unker1394 votes

Less combinations, yes...but still more creativity. I am not innovative but I do research and there are winning builds on the same champion that use completely different runes. In the old system I was able to create a page for each lane because the builds were so similar no matter what champion. That's not the case anymore.

Hügö4 votes

Between winning and being effective is a difference. You allways could put randome and strange runes together and win with off meta builds and champions. But to effectivly climb you go with an effective set and this is to 99% allways the same.

Which is the biggest issue for this rework. Now I cant just play whatever champ I want without either purchase tons of runepages or setup one in the 20 sec which is least to say annoying. I like to play many different roles and champions and new rune system makes me to go for handfull of them. I am almost bored to the point i dont want to play anymore
