I don't know about you, but man do I miss old Galio

Anyone with me?

I will say that yes old Galio needed help, but this whole new identity is awful, and doesn't feel like the amazing, anti-mage, gargoyle that he was. His ult was the BEST thing about him. Team fight? Fly in, sit down and pull everyone then BAM loads of damage. It was so fun to play.

Now? His E is a diminished product of that. Not only does it not feel as great to use, it slows him down and can be easily dodged. Before, you never knew when he would pull his ult because there wasn't an indicator, he just instantly went once you pressed R.

His old Q, although costly in the mana department, unloaded nice damage if you hit it and it took some skill, so its not like he was an easy type of champ to play.

His W was another amazing aspect- it healed him off of damage that he took and raised him or others defenses. I LOVED that shield.

His E was alright but it was still cool- sped people up and had a cool animation.

Now, he's just a big white weird Alligator looking type statue with a tail. His ult can't even be used on enemy champs- he has to ult one of his own teammates before it can hit anyone. That's my biggest peeve, it's not that fun to use.

His Q is harder to use and doesn't deal as much damage. His W is a short ranged dash which can't even go over terrain (which Riot is all about terrain covering champs now, IE Talon, Kayn, etc). His E already talked about.

New Galio? Just plain yuck. I wish Riot would revert his rework like they did Kog and keep his remaining ult and things people liked about him, but still gave him a relevant update.

But knowing Riot, I know they won't, which makes it all the more sad.

Sigh.

I just miss his old look. I played him a lot before he got reworked. I liked how cool he looked. Reminded me of the gargoyle cartoon I watched when I was a kid.

You mean Gargoyles

Hellioning11 votes

Yep, here we go. People claiming old Galio was a pinnacle of champ design.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Mens Hair Club12 votes

new galio is worse and the game will be better for him staying in the trash bin he's in now

Hellioning7 votes

I think people are having trouble disassociating new Galio's strength of release with his design. His design is significantly healthier than old Galio's, whose entirely thing was basically 'when I can't flash ult, I'm useless.'

New Galio can actually do things.

MysticDreams1212 votes

Old Galio wasn't like that. His design was healthy and fun to play.

Now he's just "ew."

Hellioning10 votes

He had a generic damage spell Q, a kinda decent W, the least interesting spell in the game on E, and a good R that is hampered by how hard it was to land a good R without flash. Healthy, maybe, but he had one of the lowest pick rates in the game. Fun is subjective, and people did not find him fun.

MysticDreams124 votes

His kit was decent, and maybe you just didn't play him right or long enough but I found it easy to land my ults without flash. He didn't need it just like Annie doesn't need it.

I would beg to differ. I think a lot of people found him fun. There were just other interesting champs to play besides him.

Automated Riven2 votes

I beg to differ here. Galio needed flash for ults. there were two ways to play galio. A. full mr tank and walk up and try to ult the backline, flashing if needed. B. Full mr ap and try to lane good engages with flash to wombo the enemy team.

against even semi compentent opponents he failed at these roles without flash because he was so slow. he got kited or bursted before he could get into position.

I also miss old galio. He was one of my pocket picks in midlane for dealing with the likes of fizz, leblanc and so on. but without flash he just sucked.

edit his ult was also good for peel but that playstyle could only be played into very specific teams.

MysticDreams124 votes

I'm sorry but I rarely flashed in with Galio at all unless the team jumped into a fight without me. So either you just didn't know how to save it for real situations or not know how to play him effectively. He did not need it to be relevant.

And yes, people found him fun. I already explained myself on that matter.

Automated Riven1 votes

he was fun. He was just bad unless people didnt know not to group around him.

Not gonna lie tho. Galio nunu was the best team comp ever.

Oleandervine2 votes

People playing a game will find anything fun, given enough time. Old Galio was just a schizophrenic mess in terms of game design, and had no cohesion with his kit, other than Passive and W. He was a "tank" without CC outside of his R, and his kit encouraged him to poke at a range, but he didn't have the mana pool for it, and again, he was supposed to be a "tank." He was a hot mess, like old Urgot, and his VGU actually streamlined him and gave him purpose.

Galios E was fun and I tried to Combo it with Hecarim alot when he was powerful

Ahristocats11 votes

galio E could be combined with other cheesy picks same with his W

new galio spells are actually generic af, his new E is an other gragas E/dash tied with cc at the end it's boring af

Sire Hippington1 votes

Q looks generic on the first glance, but it actually was a unique mechanic, unless you can name me a ground targeted aoe which delay scales with distance(other than Tigs Ult). Prettymuch all other groundtargeted aoe's have the same delay at every distance.

His W was awsome, and his E probably the most underated utillity in the game. That massive teamwide speedboost was really strong if used properly(most idiots just used it to poke rather than for the speed), and it was about the only speedboost that also did affect entier minionwaves, allowing you to get a wave to a tower faster than your opponents would expect. It was one of the few utillity skills with actuall unique strategic value for the macro.

I think both old Galio and new Galio were/are amazing characters its just a shame old Galio had to die to pave way for new Galio

Ahristocats3 votes

i disagree

i love new galio look but new galio is just an other maokai/gragas

BoilTheOil6 votes

Imo new galio was a flawed rework

DariusDemiurge4 votes

I miss his character along with poppy. Despite being someone who favors noxian champs I felt for thier losses. I liked Poppy's stoic hardened attitude which was different for a yordle. Galio not being some boring 100 foot statue.

I haven't played the new version do to technical difficulties and life so I can't cast an opinion on game play.

Spank the Fox5 votes

Poppy's four lines really fleshed out her "stoic" character.

"We are in accord, summoner" really set her out and above from other yordles.

Mens Hair Club2 votes

DAHHHH IM NOT THE HERO is much better

Spank the Fox2 votes

Whether or not you like her new direction, she is much better than the dissonance between her JoJ (and whatever other external reading sources) and her in game character.

Besides, don't Yordles hate leaving Bandle City or something?

Sir Fuzzi4 votes

I miss his old personality. Being Zac who's made of rocks is kind of a bummer. I see a lot of people try to paint him well and then I get him and he just sounds like a kid's cartoon.

But I mean, I'm probably too old to be playing League, if I think that.

Jackom13 votes

The old galio was way better visually and thematically. The new one is more fun to play, and way less frustrating to play against. It just has a better kit overall, too bad they decided to make it a disney princess.

Ralanr5 votes

Idk about thematically. He didn't scream protector that much.

Galiö3 votes

Batman is the protector of gotham and he doeant scream protector that much either.

Ralanr1 votes

Batman has had several different writers that express different aspects of his character to differing extremes to the point where he's been campy and actually murderous.

Basically don't use comic characters that are supposed to be more developed than league.

Galiö3 votes

Id like to disagree. Sure league lore and characters wont be as developed pr complex as many comic characters.. but that doesnt mean everything in their lore has to literally translate into the game.

If so why does amumu have so many helpful spells that dont ruin his team and the enemy; and why is he allowed on a team.

Teemo is a scout and has one ability that is kind of like a scout but more of a trapper.

Ivern is a mixed bag.

Kayn thematically doesn't choose which path to take based off of his opponents weapon of choice.

Zac is a weapon but acts more like a shield.

Ralanr1 votes

Not everything needs to translate but failing to translate the basic parts of it is something to avoid.

Amumu doesn't harm his team because that's counterproductive in game. His W, passive, and ult to however showcase how his very presence is a blight upon the land.

Teemo is a scout but his job is dealing with threats over just scouting. He's a guerrilla tactics user.

Ivern fits his "friends of the forest" with just his passive alone. But he also has his ult where he literally has something that was once just a single forest denizen help him. Then there is his W which helps animals hide.

Kayn is...well I don't like Kayn so I've never done an in depth study of his character.

Zac was designed to be a weapon by his creators but two scientists saw a living being a raised him to be something more. Have you ever considered what Zac would be if he was actually raised to be the weapon he was designed for? Zac's thematic is closer to a superhero.

Galiö3 votes

And pre rework Galio was designed to be a golem that guarded durand; In which he failed and then later joined the fields of jistice to defeat the enemies of demacia with his strength and wit.

He didnt have to be a literal guardian.

His story was nice (although gloom). His kit was a little unhealthy bit had long CD to prevent abuse. Had an excellent winrate and averaged KDA.

He wasnt popular cause everyone thought he was supposed to build straight MR which was actually awful for him.

His highest winrates were against zed and yasuo followed by brand and teemo.

There are many more champs that needed a rework before Galio and then the heavy handed rework made him into another generalist tank with the advtantage of poke which makes him so strong.

This was an awful rework but a great new champ for competative and nothing else...except he got gutted anyway and now has a moderate presence but low winrate in competative.

As a player who was so dedicated to Galio the issues with the rework are too glaring.

For spending over 2000 hours with the champ i have no reward witg this new galio cause he is NOTHING like the old one.

Ralanr1 votes

Except he was supposed to rejoin the rift to try again and be the guardian he was built to be.

And it's not always the highest priority for reworks. It's also idea. If it was based solely on priority then Tryndamere would have already been reworked.

I'm sorry for your loss on Galio.

aqours fanboy3 votes

Old R had about as much counterplay as flash ult Annie (ah I did enjoy getting flash ulted, twas quite bullshit engaging).

Anyway new Galio is a let down I agree but the new taunt feels better to use and to play around (albeit the slow it gives Galio is lame)

Galiö3 votes

I actually had little fun when he was around. Now i have no fun playing league at all... but still do cause its my only passtime.

Spent over 2000 hours playing old galio and now i cant play again.

Krazydigg3r3 votes

I miss old galio to a point where i cant describe it with words. I felt like the galio rework added another champion while removing another. I felt all old galio needed was model/skin/lore touchup, a new passive and a more balanced W, maybe an E change.

Support Position3 votes

Yup. Used to play old galio support. Was the only good support in the game. Still is... sigh I hate new galio hes trash... Cocky... And only nerfed... Complete dumpster...

I wish they would just revert him i would rather the crappy graphic look... He looks awful now...

SanKakU2 votes

I also miss Galio, but apparently we have different perspectives on him. I disagree about his ultimate being the best thing about him. Have you ever played him against Braum? Anyway, I don't like new Galio's E. I also don't like new Galio's W. Or new Galio's R. His passive is fine I guess, and his Q is cool. Honestly they could have just slapped the new Q onto his old kit and he would've been fine. Could figure out what to do about his ultimate later.

DoktorKaiser2 votes

As I said when he got reworked (and got downvoted to hell) his new kit is generic, not creative, very overloaded which forces him to be trash tier to not break the game (ryze syndrome) and his visuals and character look/feel like they got designed by a 12 year old. Awful, RIP my old main, at least you live in my memory. A guardian is always prepared !!!

Cavesloth2 votes

I really enjoyed old Galio. He was a goofy as hell design, but he was easy to play and be good as, especially any time mages were busted. Also I felt like it was easier to help the team with the speed buff his wind ability than his clunky ult that shields people.I really don't enjoy new Galio that much especially now that he's been nerfed into the ground because his new champ design is way more oppressive than the old one.

Abibyama1 votes

Old galio sucked tits and I would play the new one over the shit blue thing anyday all day long

Sure his winrate is kinda bad but the new galio is better in every single possible way

Downvote me all you want nerds but old galio had a reason to get reworked

Galiö3 votes

Cause he had the highest averaged winrate/KDA for 3 years in mid and third place top for 3 year top?

Ralanr1 votes

Sounds kinda frustrating for old Galio to work in top.

Leetri1 votes

To be fair, there were like 5 people playing Galio in total so his stats are nothing to go by. I really liked old Galio in ARAM, but I never went out of my way to play him. To say old Galio was unpopular is a bit of an understatement.

Galiö3 votes

He was more popular than karthus and a more unique/interactive kit.

Karthus has such a simple kit that in game the desvription is actyalky fluffed with more words for psuedo complexity .

Rebel 9861 votes

I miss his ult. Was fun playing with kalista as sup galio lol

Fertsa1 votes

I miss MR damage scaling and his old W. Anti-Mage from his passive Anti-Dots from his W but then again, he would be op AF with item 3194 and it probs can only exist because he got changed

Snake Prince1 votes

From a good AP carry with good ult wombo combos to a broken tank that requires no skill at all on release but nerfed into a whatever tank , bc what can make such a bad design work is a ball of stats .

Same for Urgot he was a good at Mid / Top with a combo mechanic and a unique ult , into a whatever garbage bruiser who is only "viable" bc of a Dash / small cc / Hp based dmgs / a shield and an execute .

But the circus isn't finished yet , Evellyyn Xin and Swain are on the list . [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

Kloqdq1 votes

Honestly in the grand scale of things neither side is right.

Both old and new Galio fail in a variety of ways. Saying one is better than the other is just not going to work because both fall flat compared to well designed champions.

Lores and character are both iffy. One was underdeveloped well the other is a little too campy to be interesting and misses out on the best aspects of Galio.

Both have their ups and downs and let's not say either is good or perfect.

MagikarpIsBoss1 votes

I mainly liked the anti mage part about him. He doesnt feel anti mage anymore. I remember that even when galio wasnt good, you always had to worry that if you had too much ap, galio could be picked and you were fucked. Now hes just a generic tank with a shit mobility spell and a situationally better shen ult.

martincastillo21 votes

I feel you man, I know what you feel. Tough I had never been a galio player, the exact same I feel for Rengar
