@Riot, why do you always just plump every single ability into a new champion?

MysticDreams12··26 votes·2,107 views

Is it too much to ask for a simple designed champion? One that has a nice balanced kit without it being overloaded? Think Nami- she has a skillshot to land her stun but is pleasing to the eye when hit, a unique heal/damage spell that bounces off others, an AA slow and damage increase, movement speed increase on her or allies, and a fun wave ult that knocks up enemies. Something like that. Why can't you make a new champ like her without plopping everything into their kit these days and calling it a day without balancing it accordingly? Because now a days we get all this:

-Slow -Stun -Dash or Leap -True damage -Invulnerability -High mobility -Defensive mechanisms (like stupid windwall) -Being untargetable -Shield -Heal themself/heal whole team -Knockback/knockaway -Zone that a champ can't leave -Attack speed/damage steroid -Defensive shred (like Garen's new E)

I might have missed some but the idea is still there- Riot, you keep packing everything into the new champions, and while it was cool when it first started, it is getting annoying and tiring now to see it on every new thing you come out with now. Can't you make a nice, simple, fun new champion without every disgusting ability slapped onto them?

Please?

Ivern Unique skillshot snare Some bushes A shield place able on allies or yourself A summon that can knockup, interacting nicely with the rest of his kit.

What is complex about this? It seems more to me that you just don't like how Camille was designed. That is no reason to say that Riot's recent champs have overloaded kits. The last one I can think of having an overloaded kit was Yasuo, and he came out three years ago.

Taliyah basic ms passive. Skillshot Q with burst/dps W knockup E zoning tool and burst with W R mobility/terrain generation.

AurelionSol magic damage DPS passive AOE stun Q with a size increase W buff to passive E mobility/roaming tool R AOE damage with a knockback and a slow

People are really overstating it when they say "every champion Riot releases is super overloaded"

Catastrop9 votes

It's more that people don't know what "overloaded" means.

Marshbouy13 votes

I don't even know what overloaded means at this point. It's used so often that it's almost completely meaningless.

Annie is overloaded

Ahem this post is not all about Camille or Yasuo, and yes I don't like how either one of them are designed. I just don't like how each and every single champion coming out now has so much stuff.

Chrige4 votes

Except the post you just replied to was of a recent champ that wasnt overloaded.

MysticDreams123 votes

Yeah? What about it? Ivern is one of the more simple champions- I was replying to the second half of their comment.

Ekko, azir, kalista, jhin, kled, and new ryze are all champions who have multiple abilities that do 3 or more things, resulting in like 10+ mechanics in each of their kits.

Tbh i dont like camille's kit design either. Unecessary MS boost on her Q with double AA reset, her E2 literally does 4 things to enemy champions (double range, stun, knockback, attack speed steroid), her W literally does 3 extra things for hitting someone on the outer edge (imo the heal doesn't make sense on a robot). If they just removed her W healing she would be more manageable in games, even with the rest of her kit being overloaded.

League has enough "Simple" champions. AurelionSol Very simple. Taliyah Very simple. Ivern Fairly simple. If you are looking for more Pantheon XinZhao MasterYi type champions, you are going to be waiting a very long time.

I bet people wont get the sarcasm and attack you.

Marshbouy8 votes

I am not being sarcastic. All of the champions that I listed have very basic and easy to understand mechanics. Aurelion and Taliyah get their skillcap from effectively using their map pressure, while Ivern is super simple.

How is Ivern simple? Has a unique jungle clear, very different from other junglers. Has no problem getting raptors and krugs easily. Is practically like learning a new game. q is morg q, with the addition that it provides a dash to any allies who target the snared. w is a shield which also detonates after a while, slowing and damaging nearby enemies. e generates brush, very powerful utility spell, gives momentary vision. r gives a controllable minions with its own built in 3 hit passive. In what world would this be simple?? Are you some sort of god? Praise the Marshbuoy. Every champion is too simple for him!

I would really like to know what you consider complicated. Or even normal. Ivern is complex (from my opinion) compared to many older champs, or just the whole champion pool in general.

Now THIS is simple: q strike harder with your next spear attacks w strike faster with your next spear attacks e leap at enemy and do a spear attack r big spear attack, sweep enemies back

Is your

I am not being sarcastic.

being sarcastic?

You can make anything sound super simple if you try to. You can make anything sound super complicated if you try to. passive makes you clear jungle camps different Q-snare with mobility W-creates a bush that buffs you E-shield that does damage R-Spawns a blue buff with a three hit knockup

Pantheon Passive-After landing 4 basic attacks or abilities Pantheon blocks the next incoming basic attack from an enemy champion, large minion, large monster, or the next incoming shot from a turret. Q-Point and click spear throw that deals damage. This ability can crit if they are low health. W-Mobility, damage, and a passive refresh all at once. Not only does get free mobility and a stun, but he also refreshes his passive so it is harder to retaliate. E-Has a passive and an active Passive-Causes all abilities and auto attacks to crit low health enemies Active-Aoe damage in a cone R-Global mobility that also has a slow and an AOE nuke.

Someone commented about my sarcasm and I wanted to assure them that i was not being sarcastic when I wrote my response.

I still think Ivern is a complex champion. And while Taliyah and Asol are both simple, they are not "very simple". That title would belong to someone like Garen. Still very curious to what you consider normal, apposed to simple. Is Azir good enough for you?

Also, your pantheon description doesn't sound complicated, it still sounds very basic. Just very specific. Length in description does not equal complexity. While something as short as Anivia's "generate terrain" has a lot of depth.

There's a difference between 'simple kit' and 'simple to play'. Fiora, for example, has a fairly straightforward kit. Hit the flashing points. Block when they attack you. Lunge to get into distance. Now actually implementing that in a game is a lot harder.

Camille slow, stun, heal, movement speed buff, attack steroid, inescapable zone CC, mobility, % max health physical damage, % max health magic damage, true damage

Using the boards logic, nami is overloaded too. An AoE stun+knockup! A heal AND a poke for her and her allie! Auto attack buff to ANYONE OF HER CHOICE! An giant AoE knockp! That covers an entire lane and goes through an entire AND!!! Gives her allies movespeed! Wtf rito why you overload every champ???

See? Easy peasy you can make WW sound overloaded with this board's logic

Except in exchange for all of that she dies way too easily. Don't offload your brand of perceived stupidity onto the people who post here intelligently. Yasuo IS overloaded, Lee Sin IS overloaded.

Camille, also dies easily. :T

ANYONE OF HER CHOICE!

Like literally every other spell in the game, Nami can choose her target for her spell. Also, pretty much every buff in the game is targeted, except for Lux shield.

Edit: why downvotes, really? I was just replying to the guy. Oh....I just read his name. No wonder!

I think that there is a balance urge to just tack something on to fix an ability when something more elegant would be far superior. It should come down to some power budget standard and normalizing some kind of process to check the power budget of every new Champion before release.

THE RlVER KlNG2 votes

Nami is actually fairly overloaded for a caster support. Despite being arguably one of the best healers in the game after Soraka, she also has 2 hard CC's. AoE damage, and auto-attack enhancement. Her casts also give her allies movement speed, doubled on her ultimate, which is her biggest and widest-hitting ability.

MysticDreams121 votes

Well when I thought Nami, I was thinking in relation to other champions she was fairly simple, and she's quite balanced so she's never on the nerf bat list. When it all comes down to it and looking at it I do realize she has a lot, but that "lot" isn't extremely oppressive or frustrating to play against. And just as a reminder, her ult can be negated by a single word- windwall.

Cowseed2 votes

Being overloaded..... is very subjective. Everyone says that nami is one of the most balanced and well designed champions in league. They also say the same thing about jhin. The thing is if people wanted to they could easy overhype her kit to make it seem overloaded. The same could be said of Jhin and any other champ people decree shall be the target of all their hate and the thing responsible for all that's wrong in the world.

Jbels1 votes

Because Kled isn't simple as fuck

THE RlVER KlNG1 votes

I'm no Kled player but I've been picking him up a lot recently and despite his 'ham all the time' thematic he is actually quite deep due to his passive.

RavenMagus1 votes

Well, being overloaded is not the same thing as being complicated.

Take new Katarina, for example. She's one of the hardest and most complicated champions now - but her kit is nothing but a bunch of dashes and damage. She doesn't have any CC at all, not even a slow, which is really rare - makes for one of the least 'overloaded' kits in the game despite being complicated.

Kled's much the same way. His kit is simple in terms of what it provides, but the way it fits together is complicated.

TeCoolMage1 votes

Fun fact: for a long time a lot of strong champions were older ones. Some are even more 'overloaded' than new champions, and many of the 'simple kits' are more OP than the overloaded ones

Annie Pre rework Soraka Pre rework poppy Pre rework Anivia Pre rework Fiora Pre rework Karma Warwick Shyvana Zac Orianna Viktor Nasus Olaf Lee Sin OId Kog'Maw Evelynn Tank Akali Pre rework Alistar Amumu Galio Pre rework Yorick Mundo Blitzcrank Pre rework Vladimir Pre rework Taric Pre rework Xerath Brand

but whatever, call Taliyah overloaded compared to Nami, and call Ivern overloaded compared to Orianna. Even Kindred isn't overloaded. Damage + more damage + more damage + stop damage. Meanwhile Taric had damage, free stats, healing, and a point and click stun. Xerath had a bunch of stuns, range increases, free armour and no one knew what he was meant to be.

And I'm betting the moment Riot makes a champion with a 'simple kit' the boards will be spamming "OMG RITO RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS SO UNORIGINAL"
