I don't even play for fun anymore

Riot,

I have to be honest here. When you make changes that clearly are for the newer players and dum it down for the veterans, therefore not making it fun anymore, you messed up. Horribly.

I started, with another account, playing League in the middle of season four, when I was a junior in college, and just had met my (now) fiance, who introduced me to the game.

**I quickly fell in love with it. ** I said good-bye to my Call of Duty on my ps3 and played League for hours every night.

For the past three years.

**Until now. **

I've spent hundreds of money on this game. I've had some accounts permanently banned because of my competitiveness (which I have now learned from my mistakes).

But since this preseason came out,** I barely have any desire to play at all** besides trying to get the FWOTD bonus and complete the missions if there are any. Then I shut it down and go play something else.

Runes are gone and scrapped for reworked "masteries." Snowballing is out of control. Games barely last twenty minutes anymore. Customization is basically no where to be found. Grinding enough BE to just buy a 6300 champ is horrible, and the champion capsules for your level up reward are pretty crappy. Orange Essense disenchantment prices have been horribly downgraded.

Not to mention you guys keep spitting out overloaded champions (latest one Zoe, which is OP and insane). What ever happened to just a simple champion anymore? Can't you guys slow down for once and give us something nice and balanced instead of cater to the flashy Esports and the new players? Seriously!

I'll include that you also ruined my favorite anti-mage, Galio, with his rework. His kit was so satisfying to use and now he's not even the anti-mage that he was before- he's a tanky burst mage. My favorite identity of his, **you destroyed. **

Riot, I hope you hear me. I hope you hear all the people screaming internally which every drastic change that you make. We didn't need a "runes" rework. It was fine as is! Do you want to be like WoW and lose a ton of your playerbase? Because if you keep falling down this path, you will become just like them.

Please don't do that.

Please make the game that I, and many other players, used to love. Because I can barely stand to play it anymore.

Don't spend money on this game until riot has a better sense of balance. Its not worth it. Not even close.

I stopped spending money when preseason came out. Not worth it at all.

Last pre-season I didn't play the entire pre-season because I found the game way to unbalanced and unfun. There is nothing wrong with taking a break and coming back once the dust has settled.

This preseason I'm on the fence; I mostly play AI for my FWOTD or play games with friends so win or lose, I'm having fun. SoloQ even in norms is a crapshoot; there aren't enough bans and there are too many OP combinations of runes and champions. For me, I just play what I like and if I lose, at least I was playing a champ I enjoy.

I am sorry to hear about your love of old Galio. I, like you, lost my favorite champion to the rework machine: I was an old Evelynn main in S6. I despise the new Eve both in gameplay and lore (though I do want to give her rework another go at some point; I feel obligated for some odd reason). But, I found a new champion to love who hopefully remains stable for awhile (even if the community hates her).

Anyway, good luck no matter what you decide to do.

? Balance was way more garbage before preseason

I liked it then. Had my runes and masteries I liked.

I'm not spending any money on this revamped mastery bullshit and snowballing to hell games.

All the maps and modes that could be played for fun are kept in a vault and chosen for us.

Stupidest decision ever, it's like they want this game to die.

Honestly riot, I feel like your new reworks and champions have made the game more unfair and broken. Your also changing way to much about champions that people have spent time mastering and learning. Your also ignoring multiple champions like malzahar and Zoey, who make the game that much harder for people that have to face them.

I feel you, I have been having the exact same things, usually a bunch of my friends come on discord late at night and ask me to play an ARAM and thats all I'm willing to play. I expected the meta to shift but really all that happened is a bunch of already strong champs became stronger and a bunch of ok champs became awful. I can't even play 3/4 of the champs I like because they are down right terrible.

After the new rune feel wore off everything started to feel terrible.

I honestly just haven't been enjoying League this preseason. And with the destruction of Varus' identity coupled with the way they're going about with towers I just don't trust them to follow through with anything. It's like asking a genie to "make you a sandwich" and then you get turned into a sandwich. "Buff towers" here's 300 HP, oh and minions do 10% more damage to them now, so uh, buff complete!

Every company is above their playerbase, but until now I didn't feel like Riot wanted to make that known, like so many others. Exercising their power because they can, or just don't care. I'd probably enjoy the game more if I never deluded myself into thinking they were different and/or better than this.

MysticDreams125 votes

Totally agree. I don't trust them anymore, ever since Tencent or whatever their name is bought the company.

deadlychuck4 votes

yeah tencent.

Funny thing is, they're actually the primary marketing company for the asian market too. So a lot of the changes to the game have been because they consider league to be a competitor to mobile moba games. So league ends up having to adopt the successful aspects of a mobile moba, like game duration. Even though there's a very fair argument to be made that they're not competitors and the league's model isn't successful if it adopts all of these ideas of other games.

Too many champs are damage dealers. Damage should be a more precious commodity and gold more valuable. I think that would go a ways towards making the game more strategic.

You have played league for 3 years, you can wait 2 months for the preseason changes and inc hotfixes after. They give us a broken game to play and discover broken stuff so they can patch things accordingly.

MysticDreams126 votes

Knowing Riot though, I don't trust them enough to fix this as well as they need it to be fixed.

What I'm hoping for is that they will scrap it and reverse, but if that is not going to be the case, I rather not play it.

Nothings going to change though, Damage will remain high as fuck, ADCs will still dominate. So many challenger players thought last seasons metas were garbage.

I think Scarra said, "four garbage metas and one ok one"

New Runes are better than the old Runes because old Runes are just plain ball of stats that have no way to play around with it and making it free wouldn't solve the problem either unlike the New Runes which you can tailor it to your play style despite its balance issues which ofc its the preseason.

There's always a reason why they rework champions mostly through multiple factors such as Low Pick Rate, Outdated and/or Obnoxious kit, etc. Though champion reworks differ from one another like the Warwick rework which is the one of the best reworks to date and there's the Mordekaiser rework which is the worst rework ever. Galio's rework is both a hit and miss in which he's enjoyable to play from players who never played Galio and brought new Galio mains but his lore and his appearance drastically changed which he's basically a new champion with Galio's name on it so its subjective.

Not much I can say to the new system of getting new champions and the BE system but Riot needs to adjust the way we get shards and BE in the system.

Didnt we had a simple champion before Zoe? Ornn is a simple champion with a unique mechanic and its been 2014 since Certaintly made a new champion(the last one was Kalista) so cut him some slacks.

The Boards don't represent the entire League Community so their opinions have little influence over Riot unless its really serious like that Dynamic Queue Dilemma

It's either that you're fed up with the game or blinded by nostalgia or both.

You missed the point though, there was customizable stats. Now there is none. The new runes aren't new runes. They are reworked masteries. Runes were removed from the game. Runes gave flat or scaling stats that allowed you to buff your champs performance so that you could build around them in different ways. Without runes we can not do that. We already had masteries but masteries only allow you to build your champ and playstyle based on your champs existing performance and how the masteries synergize with the champ.

Calling the new masteries, runes is just a clever marketing gimmick to cover up the fact that they didn't just rework the game, they nerfed the game altogether for the sake of making it easier and simpler. It is a cut in the learning curve required and it is aimed at marketing the game to younger audiences and casuals, any other excuse they give you is an outright lie. It is exactly the same thing that Ghostcrawler did to WoW when he worked at blizzard, and in the last two years he has worked at Riot he has been doing this over and over.

The number one reason champ's get reworked is because of low gameplay. It is the same reason champ's go through the fotm buff/nerf cycle. It is the same reason they created the fotm cycle in the first place. OP champs sell more. More RP is bought to pay for them, more skins are sold, etc. Ever notice that champs when first released either fit into one of two or three categories? Either they are extremely OP at release, or they are overly cutesy or some other over done aesthetic that is pretty much just fanservice to a specific demographic, or the champ is an imitation/ripoff of some pop/gaming culture icon. It's all about the sales.

Literally you just contradicted yourself with these two lines. Do you want it to be more simple and dumb-ed down, or do you want more complexity. Good lord the mentality on these boards bothers me so much compared to Reddit.

MysticDreams123 votes

No, I didn't.

I want the champions to be more simple. Thats it.

The rest of the game is being dumbed down and I don't want that.

Thank you MysticDreams. You have stated pretty much the entire issue very well. +1

I was a WoW player until Ghostcrawler did the exact same thing to WoW and removed stat customization and started reworking everything he didn't personally like. Now he has been working at Riot for 2+ years and is doing the same exact thing all over again. I have played since season 1 and it was a great game up until a couple years ago when balance was thrown out the window in order to make room for more sales.

I'm an older player too, been playing since middle of S4 just like you. I actually like the more difficult champions, as it allows me to really practice and enjoy the game for what it is. I love being able to see the skill I put into a champion blossom each game I play.

As for the rest of the game being dumb-ed down, I don't really agree with that. Runes before were just as basic, with very few variations, or some really weird combinations (I took full attack speed on Kayle and Tryn) which in turn made it harder to balance a champion due to variation.

I think they are on the right path, and it's pre-season. I can't wait to see what they will come out with next.

MysticDreams123 votes

You can believe what you want. But if you just think at these changes and what they are geared for, Riot did dumb it down for newer players. They even said so basically when they said that they made it "easier" for people to level up from "1-30" but made it extremely hard for players who were already at 30 to try to move up from there.

Runes had a lot of variations, so I will say you are wrong there. When spell vamp items were still existent, I would run a SV Morgana build with Will of the Ancients, and some SV runes mixed in. My Q could heal me for over half health late game, it was so much fun.

But in other ways, you could do a mixture of things. It just so happened that the cookie cutter builds were "the best" if you wanted to climb, and thats what you picked.

Now, customization is even worse with the new "runes," which arent even runes at all- just broken down and a smaller number of masteries.

I can understand the rework point of view.

Urgot and eve were fun to play before their rework at least for me and now I can hardly play them but still want too and show the new mastery of them. I was almost mastery 7 Urgot before rework I only needed one more s.

Galio desperately needed his for sure he felt so clunky to play. I totally enjoy the new galio though miss his team speed up

The rune system is more balance d then the old one was. Every one is on the same page of their stats until the runes give it to them instead of being able to play two games against the same champ and not being able to kill it in one of them because they carry a different set of runes then the other. Sure some runes are stronger in combinations then others but its still customization of play styles

Just adapt to the changes and try new things. it happens and they won't really change for a small part that says its awful

money comes from the esports and skins So they balance toward what's exciting to watch in esports even if it is not healthy for normal community

deadlychuck4 votes

The irony, is that if you overload the esports with the "exciting" stuff, it ceases being exciting.

It's actually in their best interest to keep the game less exciting with high irregular peeks in excitement.

Oxyrotten2 votes

But that's only the perspective of people who actually play the game. The public perspective (90% of the community are casuals) is the louder a shoutcaster screams the more exciting it is, or the more replays it gets on FB or youtube. And when a team fight is turned around because literally a fifth of the new masteries are some form of lifesteal or offensive healing, well people shout pretty loud for that last surviving member who was under 100hp and just turned around and scored a penta.

Riot only cares about the $$$

And esports and noobs and casuals are a larger target demographic than people who actually invest time and care about the game.

deadlychuck1 votes

Not at all, it's true for every sport. Now, esports can be a little harder to follow the rules and what not than a traditional sport, but there is a reason that you have a team of casters and not just 1 guy who can yell for the duration of the match.

Oxyrotten1 votes

I'm agreeing with you for the most part.

And the reason there are two casters is because there are two teams. They take turns and each commentates for their respective team. Also it allows the other a break so that he can take notes for analysis and further discussion.

But you have to understand that Riot only cares about the publicity generated from events, not the events themselves. So when "BIG PLAYS OMG" happens it hypes the crowd. People want to play the game, people want to play those champs, the end result is people buy more. And they don't care if these big plays come every two minutes between team fight resets or once a game, actually they would prefer they come more often because it means more hype.

Riot only cares about the $$$

Lunar Lunacy1 votes

As someone who has played for like, probably almost 6 years now, I've become jaded to change. Every time I feel like I have a good handle or grasp on the meta, on item builds, on rune/mastery builds, on champion mechanics, everything gets overhauled. It's actually just a fact of life in league. We need to constantly adapt. This is a way to prevent gameplay from stagnating and bump us down on the learning curve whenever we think we've gotten to the top. Different metas give different strategies, players, champions, etc. a chance to shine. It's sad when a champion that you love and did great with ends up being reworked or nerfed or drops out of the meta, but it happens and there's plenty more champions to choose from if you don't like that champion anymore.
