Ardent censer

Hello,

I'd like us to talk about ardent censer.

When released it seemed like good idea and frankly I was pretty excited about it.

But as you all can see, it is almost never built. So what is the problem? At first sight you would thought that its passive (which is the most visible thing) is great and probably quite "OP" but in reality it is not. The main reason is that for ardent to be poweful you would need to build it in lanig phase. But ardent is too expensive, you would need to start building it right from the start of the game.

And here is another but. What ardent censer has in passive it lacks in stats. It has quite nice mana regen but only 40AP and 10%cooldown. It basically gives nothing. if you wat regen you buy cricible. If you want AP you pick something from many AP items League has. And if you want cooldown just random buy anything and you will end up with 40% cooldown. But yes i does give movepent speed, which is nice but it wont help much.

Ardent is item for utility supports and these supports are easy food for tank and aggresive supports. Ardent does not reward utility supports enough and it basically says: "stay behind and spam heals/shields" that is not much interactive play.

I am not criticizing or anything I'd just like to know what is the point. And will be anything done about it. Because it actually has a nice passive.

The reason you don't see it as often is, imo, based on the popular supports (Braum Leona Morgana Thresh Nami ) not doing terribly well with it - even Nami, who has a heal, and Thresh, who as a shield, can't really use it due to how their respective thing works - both of them only have a single single-target effect.

Other supports can make great use of it. For example, on my low-altitude jet plane Janna , I like to use it as a boot replacement (475 without regular boots - only had Boots 0.8, aka item 3096 /item 3069 - last game, and I didn't even buy a major AP item yet) if we have at least 2 champions who benefit from AS. Or Sona, who can persistently have it on her whole team (and even like the mana regen overkill with Crucible). Or Alistar.

Yes Janna Sona and Alistar are great with ardent censer. Still there are items you rather buy then this one. Because except its passive it gives little.

As support you are building one of support items (spell thief, coin, relic) , sight stone and if you are mana hungry you go for crucible, often as support you need tankiness so you build something tanky. There is just no time or money to waste on ardent.

But it is an interesting support item and givin it some tweaks to make him viable item would be great.

Now to some cool stuff: Ardent on Soraka - giving AS to all your team to decide Top/Mid lane fight. Ardent on Shen - though giving mana regen he would teleport on ADC, shileding him and giving him AS.

Karma too

Honestly, it is a niche pick item. I only really get it on sona/janna/karma, and only if I have a lot of AA reliant champs on my team. So, it definitely is not a regular item, and only really justified if jungle/top can use it too.

Ardent Censer sounds wonderful in theory, the problem is by the time you could potentially buy it, you'd much rather have a tanky or ap item.

What if ardent censer and Zekes herald were combined. Your shields and heals provide 15 Ad, 15% attack speed, and 15% lifesteal. Although that would definitely be a difficult item to balance.....I don't know.

Well I was thinking more of cheapening The item and adjusting stats acordingly. Or adding HP.

But if ardent were to be build from chalice then it would put Support in front of choice he woul have to consider, when building mana regen item.

OK, on the way to work I was thinking about it and I came up with comparison:

item 3222 vs item 3504

is similiar to

item 3174 vs item 3165

Unholy grail - utility item to spam abilites Morellonomicon - also utility item that gives you more damage and lets you deal with certain kinds of enemies.

Crucible - utility item to spam abilites, but it does not grant AP but gives great active. Ardent - also utility item that has less mana regen but gives AP it might also help your ADC to deal with difficult enemy.

There is one big difference between those two groups - item 3174 item 3165 are items for AP mid laners and they are able to build these items in laning phase because they earn more. On the other hand item 3222 item 3504 are items supports cannot build in laning phase, because they do not have money. And there is more: item 3222 is item that gives you über mana regen through item 3028 already in laning phase. But item 3504 gives none powerful stats in progress of building it. Well item 3114 is great item to survive until you build somthing from it, but then again Ardent takes awhile to build. item 3113 is also interesting item but purely made for agressive play. Someone like Lulu for whom you rather build some HP or item 3222 as it gives more regen and adds great utility to her kit that is already full of utilty.

But I will try to test out Arden more and see how it affects laning phase. (shame I cannot build it on Velkoz as he would utilize every stat of it except its passive)
