The problem with snowballing as it is right now:
Let's be honest, it's frustrating to lose. But I think that a lot of people (possibly Riot included) stop their analysis there and chalk it up to people losing as to why they are frustrated.
I dunno about other people, but it's not losing a game so much that I find frustrating. It is feeling helpless that actually frustrates me. Often these two things coincide, but not always.
I could lose a game, and still enjoy it, as long as I felt like I had agency over my play. The problem with the game right now is that snowballing is so prevalent that the moment things start to slip in one teams favor the other team loses so much agency over their play.
You can't try to farm up under tower or you will get dove, you can't shove lane to punish roams because you will be ganked, you can't go out to ward so that you have vision that will allow you to play safer because you will be caught and killed, etc. Every play that you are supposed to do in order to catch up or not fall behind further just becomes so freaking risky that it doesn't feel like you are allowed to even attempt any of it.
It's as if Riot has said, "Once you start losing you are not allowed to play or enjoy the game anymore, you must play passive and just accept the inevitable beating and no you aren't allowed to do anything about it."
Now I know that's not Riot's actual opinion on this (at least I hope it isn't) but that's the message players like me receive when games are allowed to snowball so easily.
IMO, that is what is super frustrating about the game right now. Not simply losing, but losing in a way that you don't get to have any agency or choices.
Please fix snowballing Riot, it's way too slippery a slope right now.
