Why is there such a disparity between kill and assist gold?

Basically at the base, a kill gives 300g to the killer and 150g is split among all people who get an assist on the kill.

I'm just growing tired of playing an exceptional early game jungle JarvanIV and if I happen to get the kills I pretty much get to dictate and instantly pop all of their squishies with ease and roll to a fast victory, but if I don't then I have (what feels like) no say over how the game turns out even though the ganks were just as successful.

Last game I started 1/0/6, and while I know there were other mistakes/throws that led to us eventually losing, I can't help but feel that if that was a 6/0/1 or even 4/0/3 start instead I could have dictated the game and won it in mid game rather than letting them scale to late. Looking in the match history, I never had a gold lead of more than 700g on the enemy jungler despite starting 1/0/6 and him being 4/2/X (pretty sure it was 0 or 1 assists) AND getting us up 4 towers to none. No wonder I felt like I wasn't ahead - I wasn't at all ahead. Ignoring the towers I was behind! Getting 4 assists bot lane gave me 300g total when it could have been 1200g for kills.

I just am curious why Kill and Assist gold is defined like this (300g + modifier for kill no matter what, and half of that split between all assisters if any). Why isn't it like kill without an assist is flat 300g (to not change 1v1 stats) but with assists total gold is 450g split so that the killer gets twice as much as everyone else present.

So 2 people: 300 and 150 3 people: 226, 112/112 4 people: 180 and 90/90/90 5 people: 150 and 75/75/75/75

It just seems crazy that let's say there's a 4v4 teamfight where your team gets 4 kills... you could get as little as 200g from that if you got 4 assists, or as much as 1200g if you got the kills. 1000g swing in how much gold you get from the fight based strictly on who got the last hit of damage... I knew that last hitting creeps was a skill in this game, but i didn't think I was supposed to try to last hit champions... I was under the impression I should work to make sure the team secures the kill.

I get that we want to reward the person who actually secures the kill, more. In most cases though any player with the assist could have secured the kill, so I think all the participants in the kills should get reasonably rewarded...

Well I mean, I explained what I suggested in my post. Obviously the assists don't get full kill gold. Total gold remains the same, killer still gets more gold, but the distribution is more balanced between the kill and assist.

So... Here is a thought, why not just make assists grant a flat amount regardless of number? It doesn't make much sense that a person who contributes the least to a team but can last hit somehow gets to a full build (and then wastes it and grants multiple shutdowns) while the rest of the team (the ones actually doing the damage) get screwed. Im no balance expert and the numbers might have to be fiddled with, but I think it would work out better

I've always just wanted to see the gold equally split among all participating members. This is a team game. Why have the guy who just so happened to have gotten the last hit get the biggest slice of the pie? So it'd be like this

Solo kill: 300 gold to 1 person Duo kill and above: 450 gold divided by the number of kill participants.

So the bonus 150 gold is still there for working with your team, and no one can whine about ks'ing now. Is this a bad concept?

Yea I agree. Although I think Riot may be concerned about the impact on pro-play (and even just general high elo play) where people actually intentionally funnel the gold in to the appropriate person. That makes a lot of sense and it's good to have that ability. It just feels too bad in solo queue right now when you're a part of every kill playing a gold-hungry champion and you just can't get the actual kills. So instead of being in a dominating position that you've earned, you're even/behind despite having played pretty great up to that point.

I should never be even/behind as a jungler when I've not died and have participated in 7 kills in laning phase with only 1 or 2 ganks that didn't get a kill (but got summoners) (assuming of course there isn't one person on the enemy team wrecking face).
