Learn how to fcking draft

i'm in d1 i'm in in d1/master tier mmr, and i get people that do not know the basic of a moba

it doesn't make sense that you see me first picking morde and decide to pick vladimir+xayah+sona+nidalee when you all belong to the 0.00001% best players of league

let me teach you to all of you something called drafting

you CANNOT WIN without cc, or frontline it's impossible, unless you're in an other universe (i do not know how low elo games work)

the moment they group, if you don't have cc and they do it's over. if you don't have tanks or frontline and they do it's over too, no one will be here to soak up enemy damage while theywill soak up our damage

"but why don't you pick cc yourself?"

i'm fcking first pick, you don't hover anything yourself how the hell can i know what you pick. if i first pick morde, then you HAVE to pick engage/cc/tankiness yourself, or it's as if you trollpick since you lose the game on purpose

one cannot simply pick 4 ranged champions and expect to win,

i beg to differ Jayce Elise Karma KogMaw Lulu

oh wait u said no front line KogMaw, nvm hehe

Aimléss2 votes

Yep, this is a huge problem for ADC's, with no front-line, I'd be lucky to get 2 autos off before I gotta back up to avoid all the burst aimed at me. Then get flamed cause I didn't do that much damage, or died in the team fight. Lol

Mizaya17 votes

I have this problem too often. We have a guy picking Kha'Zix into two big CC heavy frontline tanks. Game hits 35 minutes, and he's just surprised at how useless he is. Like, wasn't it obvious that you wouldn't be doing shit against a Maokai in teamfights?

Ralanr14 votes

TLDR: Learn to make sacrifices for your team in draft.

If I have two tanks on my team, I'm not picking Sion into it.

exactly one time i had a team that was zac jungle+maokai top+galio mid while i was blitzcrank sup

needless to say that we lost, our lucian didn't bring as much damage as their ap mid+adc

Ralanr1 votes

I had a game with Poppy top, Amumu jungle, and me as Naut support.

We couldn't keep our Draven alive. I had to quit ranked for a bit after that just to recover from how pissed off I was.

chipndip12 votes

That doesn't even add up. Poppy should have let you and Amumu engage while she just body-blocked for Draven.

Ralanr2 votes

She kept engaging and Amumu followed while Draven was too far behind. I had to try and peel both Garen and Rengar off of him alone.

chipndip14 votes

That isn't a team comp problem. That's a "Poppy doesn't know wtf she's doing" problem.

You and Amumu should have been the engage. Poppy's the one that should have saved ult and E for disengaging off of Draven.

Ralanr2 votes

Well it is Bronze so, you know.

This isn't about learning to draft. This is learning how to play the game.

calm down, if you want cc pick cc, some people are 1 tricks so some people wont pick a cc if their 1 trick doesn't have it

Wet Dryman18 votes

One tricks have pocket picks just in case (well they have if they are actually smart), you see Pink Ward that is well known AP Shaco one trick pick Gragas, Lee Sin or other champions if it's needed, you have Tobias Fate that one tricks Gangplank and picks Karthus or Sion if needed. Not to mention that some people one trick champions that have different playstyles/builds and if it's needed they don't play their favourite/most played playstyle but the one that is best in said situation.

Pure one tricks are cancers and nothing justifies what they are doing.

Enjoyment is not valid reason in ranked

It is, everyone is playing to have fun. Some people find the competitive environment more fun and also only play the game for the one champion they play. I'd hate to bring up the extremely toxic and well known player shaclone but he pretty much only ever plays shaco and pretty much only ever plays competitive. Even though you think it might not be a valid reason, everyone has their reason to play the game. And by what measure is it not valid? Anyways that's just the way it is.

Wet Dryman6 votes

Because acting through your pure enjoyment leads to what Shaclone does: ruining fun and games of others for your own egoistical needs. It's fine to do whatever you want competitive or not just for the sake of your own amusement in non team oriented games/gamemodes (like 1v1 Starcraft mode, like World of Warcraft's 1v1 Arena, like Mortal Kombat's online PVP) but when you do that in team oriented game then you're just an asshole that should be banished from the game.

You're in team oriented game and you act like a part of the team, not a special snowflake that does what suits him the best at the cost of everyone else.

You're playing a game on your free time. And everyone that's not trying to lose is trying to win, if a player only plays one champion all the way to diamond then do you think he has the ability to play another champion at the same level ? When a OTP switches it's generally at the cost of everyone.

Wet Dryman2 votes

You're playing a game on your free time

So what? If I play football not by rules, in the way that is the funniest to me at the cost of my teammates it is the right thing to do because I'm playing a game in my free time? That's not an argument at all.

And everyone that's not trying to lose is trying to win, if a player only plays one champion all the way to diamond then do you think he has the ability to play another champion at the same level ?

And it is my problem because? It's not my fault that he enjoys 0.0001% of game's content and refuses to play something else in his free time that doesn't put his teammates at disadvantage because he's a special snowflake.

It's not really a problem if someone one tricks versatile champions that fit into many teamcomps and/or have different builds and playstyles but even then they should have pocket picks, every thinking person will get to conclusion that sometimes their teamcomp/counterpick will fuck him up making him (and not only him) lose game and besides that his champion might be banned/picked by enemy team and dodge is not always an option because it is guaranteed demotion. While one tricking gives massive advantage over other people in most scenarios,** it doesn't mean it gives in every scenario**, that's why these people should have pocket picks.

Hi. Pure Sion one trick, here. Never played any champion but Sion on this account, ever, in any queue. Not seeing an issue with it.

Wet Dryman2 votes

As long as your purity didn't lead to situations like Rubick presented it's fine, Sion fits to what I said in my previous comment: he is versatile, has many build paths, can go into every lane there is and fits into most teamcomps (who doesn't want a frontline with so much CC and zoning potential) and isn't banned at all and hardly ever picked, the only time where you would put your team in disadvantage is 3+ Tanks in team which hardly ever happens so automatically his one tricks aren't problematic. But Sion isn't 100% of champion roster.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I consider myself to be a Katarina one trick. But I would be lying if I said I'd be willing to pick her no matter what the enemy team comp was. If every single person had one or more ways of shutting me down, you're damn right I'm gonna pick someone else. I have a handful of other champs that I feel more than comfortable on if Kat doesn't seem to be a good pick.

Lauchmelder6 votes

This post comes down to: "If you didn't hover any other champions you wanted to play you become my bitches."

Ahristocats4 votes

think about it for one second, do you want to win? then you have to do it for yourself

if you don't hover anything i can't know if you're going for a tanky or a dps character, and can't adapt myself because a fulltank team is also going to lose unless you snowball massively in the first 15 min

Lauchmelder4 votes

I'd argue that anything below high diamond (which is where you are sitting at right now) doesn't need a proper teamcomp because we just plain out suck too much on our individual champions to begin with.

We could have the sickest wombo-combo you could imagine yet still lose horribly to a shitty teamcomp because we have no idea how to play the game. Teamcomps/drafting is important, sure, but it's better if people know how to play their champions first.

Tulare4 votes

I disagree. I think mid-Silver is where a team's ability to cohere really starts to affect outcomes. At that point, most people have competent mechanics and can play a few different champions in one or two roles. Even if it's often just accidental teams that execute some tactic employing all five players effectively often win. That means that as low as Silver, players who understand team compositions and can reliably fill holes or guide their teammates to fill holes will find themselves at an advantage from the outset.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

I'm sorry but silver doesn't have any mechanics at all. I play often on a smurf with bronze-low gold friends and i purely win by mechanically destroying them no matter the champ or teamcomp it's completely irrelevant if you want to win there.

What i actually like about these elos apart from those shitheads who exist in every elo is they KNOW they suck and don't have an inflated ego and will actually listen to win the game when they see someone is clearly better.

I can see how a teamcomp can matter when EVERYONE is silver which is the expected outcome of the matchmaking so maybe in their own "bubble" it might be true.

But i will tell you if you really want to climb out of silver/bronze etc. you sould not fill holes or adjust your pick to fit your team. Your teammates will not be competent enough to carry you on a tank when you can just play kassawin and pentakill the enemy yourself.

Tulare2 votes

If you have diamond+ mechanics, yes, you will annihilate a silver team. I intended the term "competent" precisely. There are degrees of mastery beyond mere "competency". Very few people can make a quantum leap to mechanical mastery, though. It's just going to take long, sometimes tedious practice. I have neither the inclination nor the reflexes to "just play kassawin and pentakill the enemy." As you noted, if everyone in the game is silver (and not a smurf), the biggest distinguishing factor I've observed is the ability of the team to consistently and deliberately win team fights. A viable composition helps a lot there.

Im more tilted when im the only one who hovers pick intent in select...

I can't understand ppl who don't use pick intent... What's the reasoning behind not letting your team know what champion you want to play ?

Lauchmelder3 votes

One of the reasons is dickheads banning your own intent because they got autofilled.

Dextix LT6 votes

I dont use pick intent just because my picks really change based on the enemy adc/support.

I am a support main and i play quite a lot of champs at a pretty good level, but i for example will never pick bard into brand.

Why would you use pick intent if your picks depend on the enemy?

Barcid4 votes

You forgot other things like lacking wave clear.

You also forgot building against the opponent's team, so for example you see an Azir, you should pack a team with heavy diving capabilities or someone who can pick him off and get out (Syndra, Fizz, Talon, Zed).

Instead, people pick shit like Kennen, get thrown the hell back in their ult, and then say "GG can't get Azir team sucks".

On a related note, your support player might be able to provide a large fraction of the CC you need. Your support player probably does not have the budget, however, to be your only frontline tank, your only source of magic damage, or your only source of physical damage. Your support can supplement any of these roles but rarely can satisfy them alone.

Squey3 votes

yep i swear i lose game due to this more then anything else in ranked solo q. I first pick veig and the guy below me picks gp top. That is pretty much gg. No way the enemy isnt gonna pick a bunch of divers into us now. Oh yes rakan support, thats not enough. Lucian pick, oh thats sure helping our issue. Rammus jungle, ok while ur off initiating we will all die back here.

Or i first pick Panth top to snowball our carries but we get lethality jhin adc and corki mid into double tank front line. Awesome, we better win by 15 min or this ones pretty much done.

chipndip12 votes

I mean, champs like Thresh and Sona are very generalist picks. You can't really blame someone for picking a generalist support in a blind situation. At least she helps your team fight strength. Xayah also has an aoe snare. Short, but there.

Really, you should be mad at Nidalee and Vlad. Especially Nidalee. Front liners occupy top and jg for the most part. Nid saw your Morde...then picked Nid. Blame her.

Here, I'm an expert on bronze at this point. :^ )

I can confirm that you're usually screwed if you have no tank or CC. However, the assassin usually gets VERY fed in bronze, and is able to carry, despite the team having no CC.
