Rumble nerfs, but Darius sill at large

The Ecdysiast··8 votes·593 views

It's a little funny they're nerfing Rumble for having intended strengths which haven't been an issue for balance. But of course, Darius just got a gigantic buff in the form of tank item nerfs, shot up in ban rate for similar, but more prevalent and impossible to itemize against lane phase strengths, and is seeing no changes.

Check for yourself if you don't believe me. There are absolutely no numbers on any website to support the claim that Rumble was in need of nerfs.

Meanwhile, Darius who has been top of top lane for years now, and thanks to the 10-ban system has shot up from 12th ban to 5th ban, has seen only one slight nerf in recent memory.

I don't think Darius is problematic. He is a melee champ and melts in seconds when he tries to get somewhere whereas Rumble can decimate teams from a screen away if he hits a good ultimate. He shouldn't have such oppressive laning as well on top of that.

Items and masteries can overcome Darius's one weakness of low mobility.

The issue of trapping yourself in the narrow corridors of the jungle is bad against many, many champions. Rumble is only a supplement to many of those.

Mortekaiser3 votes

there are a lot of champions that suck ass right now, and a lot more champions that suck ass to play against.

darius is not either of those. the quality invested in his rework should have also gone into the morde rework.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

There was no quality in his rework. It was nothing but buffs.

Darius is not an issue

The Ecdysiast1 votes

The numbers don't support that claim.

They actually do on literally, and I mean literally instead of how people just use that word to exaggerate, every single credible site but sure, keep crying.

You can kite Rumble just as well as you can Darius. Apprehend has similar range to Rumble's Q and Darius has a stronger slow, along with a Black Cleaver first item buy which increases his movement speed.

Rumble's ultimate will do around 9000 damage at rank 3 to the entire enemy team if and only if: he has Rylai's, Void Staff and Liandry's, they bought no MR, and they stand inside it for the entire duration.

Darius's ultimate can deal 5000 damage to the enemy team with no defense items available to mitigate it, but also does not require him to build more than Black Cleaver due to his passive. And the condition is only that they stand in range of Darius-- who can move to catch up.

Rumble hasn't been a problem for anyone but the LCS because his strength is one that can only be abused when your entire team is drilled to work together and has the highest possible level of communication available. Same as Shen and Twisted Fate in seasons prior. These champions get wrongfully nerfed for the other 99% of players because a select few get to play with 5-man teams-- something no longer allowed in competitive play for the average player.

facepalm You don't kite Rumble because he's basically ranged himself 24/7 and has more reliable slows on everything.

You use Rumble's ultimate to cut off paths or on the team itself so they are FORCED to stay and fight and/or take damage.

Darius only gets 5000ish if he can ult every single person. That's not realistic. At all. This game isn't balanced around trash players who don't know how to CC, kite, use Grievous Wounds, get armorpen, etc etc.

And Darius hasn't been a problem for anyone at all. Figure that?

Differences.

Rumble is ranged, a huge problem in high elo, in lcs, the items he's using are strong as hell, he can ult from two screens away and slow you from range while darius can't do those things.

Get to higher elo and learn to kite, Darius got now useless.

if he so bad then why arent people picking him up. You act like its easy to land those perfect ults and believe it or not he doesnt win a decent amount of match ups top.

Only place where Darius is OP is in TT and that's because your forced to be in his face.

Or top lane, where that's exactly the same.

Not at all. You have jungle presence, you also have more lane yo run around, easier to not die to him since he needs you to literally run into his heal, And less start gold so he can't tamp up as fast as long as you aren't stupid enough to run into his heals.

There are actually very few champions small enough who also have movement abilities to stand directly on top of Darius to prevent his Q.

If you needed to run into his Q for it to hit, he wouldn't see equal levels of play and ban rate at all ranks. He'd fall off the higher you go just like the other juggernauts.

Only a complete moron uses Q to clear waves as Darius. So jungle presence is often avoided or easily turned in his favor.

He doesn't have less starting gold. No one in the game has less starting gold.

It's so strange that people who defend Darius act like they themselves don't have the brain to land his Q. Like they're trying to say, "this is so hard to land you must have been stupid to let me hit it. Like the rest of his kit, my skill (or lack thereof) doesn't play a part."

And a half-decent player in general will be warding so they're well aware of where the enemy jungler is at all times. If you try to play safe against Darius, he simply outfarms you by enough to match the kills he isn't getting--- though he can still get the kill on you if you step close enough to attack the caster minions.

Because Darius is fucking trash in teamfights if the enemy team isn't absolutely brain dead?

Whereas Rumble can just drop his ultimate on a teamfight for devastating impact while still retaining an incredibly strong laning phase that makes him basically ranged 24/7 against a lane of melees?

The Ecdysiast1 votes

If you think that then you're listening too much to the juggernaut mains who are pretending that's the truth and laughing while they deal 5000 true damge pentakills on your whole team.

Darius's pull brings the same threat, with more kill potential, as Rumble's Q. Darius is just as big, if not a bigger threat against all melee opponents as Rumble. The Rumble has all the same weaknesses in lane as Darius, with lesser versions of the same strengths.

Rumble has not been too strong by any numbers.

Joxcab2 votes

And then you just CC Darius and oops, he doesn't do anything. Or literally just avoid his abilities because his only slow is on W/E both of which are short range, as opposed to Rylai's on everything from range.

There's a reason Rumble's in LCS play and not Darius. But hey what do the world's best players know?

The Ecdysiast1 votes

The reason is that they're a guaranteed 5-man team-- something no longer allowed in ranked play for the average player-- which practices together for hours every single day.

Shen and Twisted Fate also saw professional play due to strengths that are only present in that situation.

Joxcab1 votes

And then you realize said strength is just working together. Sure pro play team comms make it easier. It's still fully possible as well as the fact Riot is adding voice comms.

And if high tier players couldn't do that, Darius would statistically be a problem. But he's not and falls to a negative winrate once you go to Diamond+.

3TWarrior1 votes

"working together"

even if you assumed it would be even circumstances (50% of working together and 50% of not working together), for instance, let's assume the team can use discord, for all 5 players to work together is only a 3% chance

most people can not even agree on the boards...how does it work in the most competitive aspect of the game?

Irelia Bot1 votes

Only nerf I would want Darius to get is for the inner circle of his Q to have a bigger radius. Playing a champ with a larger hit box makes it nearly impossible to not get hit by his Q if trying to stand next to him to avoid the healing part.

JusKil1 votes

all the darius mains really got together on this. lol so darius is one of the top banned champs across the board and rumble is barely played across all the elos and even in lcs and isnt ever really a must pick/ban yet somehow he is more oppressive than darius? i really dont understand how people believe themselves when they type that. If he is getting banned that much its generally means hes not fun to play against. I dont get it I havent been in bronze and silver for a couple of seasons now and I dont feel the need to pretend its cool to play against him like some of these players do. I dont get this groupthink that people try to live in where they say oh hes not a problem like somehow thats gonna get them more respect. The issue with darius is that he can make way more mistakes than his lane opponent and still come out ahead. A lot of match ups up top with him are winnable but honestly its just not fun having to play that careful in order to outplay him because even when you "get ahead" i.e cs/gold lead etc on some of these match ups...you arent.
