Because competitive is different? Look at clash. I main Malz and Diana. Did I play either of them once? No! It was Competitive! I played Galio and Kassadin. I didn't even go AP Galio, I went tank with banner second! You build your team comp as a group there, it's about the long term tactic not just win lane, win game all the time. Ori is loved in competitive because she has fantastic team fight potential, utility and can be played safe against losing match-ups. It's why champions like Zed will never see pro play, no matter how much they're buffed. They bring nothing but mitigatable burst damage to the team.
Ori is a well balanced champion. Yes she's at the forefront of the mage midlaners, but when they dick anyone who comes close to taliyah with nerf upon nerf upon nerf it's nice to see one or two slip through the cracks.
