It's hard to want to keep playing.

Onotori··68 votes·14,863 views

So, I main mages and juggernauts, with an (AP) assassin or two sprinkled in there. However, with every patch that comes along, it gets harder and harder to justify playing anything that isn't an AD stacking damage dealer, be that an ADC, a melee ADC, an assassin, or even full AD Darius. I do less damage, I have less survivability, I have less mobility, I have less sustain, I have terrible resource pools (that is getting worse), I have skillshots and CDs... I don't want to play a game where playing the champs I enjoy means I'm gimping myself, but that's about how it is already, with it getting worse every patch.

Then, combine that with the fact that we're ignoring champs who have absurd win and pickrates, ignoring champs who go against everything Riot says they value, making idiotic changes to try and push metas in LC$, and all that... It's no wonder everyone is complaining.

I don't want to quit, since the game underneath all of Tencent's greed is enjoyable, and since I have nothing else to do, but I'm kind of done with supporting a terrible company that doesn't care about the game at all beyond how much money it pulls in.

I really wish people would just stop throwing money at shitty companies -- maybe EA wouldn't be as bad as it is, maybe Riot would be somewhat decent, maybe Nintendo wouldn't have switched to greed mode immediately after Iwata's death... but, modern "gamers" don't really give a damn about something as inane as quality or passion so long as they have a way to waste time and/or feel superior for being a high rank. I wish whales just stayed in phone gaming.

oh definitely, I'm like a battered wife.

every patch I say ive had enough, I'm leaving too a game that's gonna treat me real good but loyally or stupidly i keep coming back, hoping things will change for the better. Then i see the patch notes and riot has slapped me in the face again.

one day maybe i will go but even though i love to hate this game

That's actually a good analogy. :P

I wish I was able to quit. But I can't find another game that I can play for hours on end, and none of the MMOs coming out this year give me any hope.

I will never for the life of me understand this at all, hell, I don't enjoy League nearly as much as I used to, so I stopped playing it and barely even play on my main anymore. I would rather not play then force myself to play something I don't enjoy.

But there are a bunch of free games beyond that, there is path of exile if you like Diablo, if you don't mind spending some cash there are a bunch of steam gems, consoles have plenty too, and that seems more like addiction instead of habit.

I haven't quit but I'm definitely playing less and less. Actually, even mobile games give me more satisfaction than league right now. Ew.

I'm literally just on the boards now lol

I feel ya, because I've been through that stage. One day you'll be like me and actually quit the game, and go back to the forums just to mine for salt.

I've been trying to find reasons to play and get back into League, but a lot of bullshit since season 7 are holding me back. And I play nothing but enchanters, who are supposed to be one of the "better supports" since the time I stopped actively playing.

Save yourself trouble, and find something else to play. Even grinding in MMOs have more value.

Onotori2 votes

I'd honestly love to quit, but I can't find anything else I can enjoy for longer periods of time.

Well, don't worry. If the last three years are any indication, ADCs are basically immune to nerfs.

I dont know whats the deal, nobody wants their main role to get nerfed.

Riot really needs to understand that they stopped letting the players decide how to play their game when they nerfed lane swapping (among everything else). We can play Riot's™ way or take the highway.

for the first time, i am actually venturing out to try dota 2 and heroes to see what they offer. Valla is pretty cool so far in HoTS. I've heard the community in DOTA 2 is just like this one, so idk about it yet. So far 1 person hasn't been able to completely throw a game, that's been nice

I tried out the Heroes of the Storm beta, it was kinda ok, didn't really know what I was doing at the time. I picked up Tyreal because he's an angel and didn't see Imperius available. I might go check it out, see if it's still kicking.

Look at me, after 4 years of almost daily League, the release of Zoe has finally broken me and made me quit the game within a single week. I've played only one game of League in the last almost 5 months and it was as frustrating as ever. I've switched to mainly reading the boards recently and from the perspective I get here, the game's just been going downhill anyway. I chewed through the years as mainly an immobile mage (or a devourer - when that was still a thing - style jungle) player. Knowing that, you probably get why Zoe in particular was the final nail in the coffin. Quitting the game at the start of preseason 8 and managing to get out of the Stockholm syndrome definitely feels like I've dodged a bullet, even though I'm still on watch for some kind of redemption for Rito here on the boards. Until the day comes when I will see people begin to talk positive about Riot's gameplay (mainly balancing, we all know that) decisions, I advise you people who feel frustrated to do what I did.

Jamaree1 votes

Don't then, there are so many other games out there.

Onotori7 votes

Yeah, there are good games out there, but they only last a few hours at best. Any long-term game is in a bad place. MMOs are in the worst place they've ever been in, I really don't enjoy the other, slower-paced MOBAs, I'm not a fan of shooters... you see my issue? Back when I had WoW and Wildstar, I scoffed at League, but now there's nothing else I can enjoy for long periods of time -- and even that's getting hard now, with how League is.

Play some single player stuff, search around, there is always better options. There are so many games to try that if you can't find one in the current day and age, you just aren't looking hard enough.

Onotori5 votes

Singleplayer games last a few days at best, and a few hours normally. I've been gaming since I was like 3, even learned to read by playing Pokemon and Zelda, so I work through games pretty quickly. That's why I want some kind of MMO or other online game that's always got stuff coming.

Monster Hunter World, Path of Exile, Warframe, Stardew Valley (soon)

Onotori2 votes

I've never enjoyed a MH game, so I don't have a reason to pick up MHW. I do play Warframe, but it's not something I can play all day every day (only a few hours at best).

As far as PoE and Stardew Valley go, I just don't enjoy either.

Mages are completely fine. They are almost universally picked across the board in pro play. I mean if you can't succeed as a mage the fault lies with you and no one else really.

Absolutely. I mean, obviously you can't listen to everyone- but fix your matchmaking bullshit so we can have some fun in this shiz.

I'd love it if they didn't focus so much on LC$. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen unless there's some mass quitting spree.

Nintendo switched to greed mode when? Odyssey and BOTW are two of the best-crafted games to date, and like previous games only require the upfront cost of the gaming console (the switch) and the game itself. The costs of playing the games is relatively similar to the cost of playing Nintendo games before, adjusting for inflation and supply/demand shocks.

Before anyone tells me "oh but you just listed 2 games out of the hundreds of mediocre ones" wasn't it like that before Iwata's death as well? Nintendo had been on a decline because their popular series (Mario, Zelda/Link, Kirby (ESPECIALLY), Pokemon, Fire Emblem amongst others) seemed to have run out of ideas. BOTW and Odyssey offered a fresh answer - no, those franchises are far from done. I am eagerly looking forward to what Nintendo will do now with Pokemon (especially on the Switch), Fire Emblem (hopefullly they get rid of the children system and look on improving combat) and Kirby.

Edit: Splatoon 2 has been enjoyable to play too.

Onotori1 votes

BOTW and Odyssey aren't good games though. Relative to other modern trash, sure, they're better than most, but relative to other Nintendo games, especially in their own respective series, they're trash. BOTW is hollow and lifeless, with no story, progression or character development, and Odyssey is Mario without a soul.

And Iwata hated mobile gaming and DLC with a passion, because he knew they were just about money, and didn't stick to the principles Nintendo had -- that's why Nintendo games never had DLC, and they had no mobile games. As soon as he got sick and left the company, Nintendo went into mobile gaming, and now that he's gone... Nintendo is just as bad as any other company putting out half-assed games riddled with DLC.

SpongebobIsLife3 votes

oof, you had a good post until you said BOTW and Odyssey aren't good games. I haven't been around that long, only since Mario 64, but I will say that Odyssey is one of the best Mario games to date. Easily the best one of this decade and maybe century. Kinda though when comparing it to Sunshine and the OG Paper Mario.

I haven't played BOTW but everyone i know thats played it says it is best zelda game of the 20th century.

Onotori1 votes

Odyssey was supposed to be the Mario game that goes back to the model of 64 / SMSS / SMG, right? It did in terms of playstyle and functionality, but then they took the game and made it so horribly simplistic that it's hard to enjoy it at all. Mario games were never hard, but they had places that'd kick your ass for a bit, and they had some small amount of challenge, while Odyssey is just a hollow Easter egg hunt. It feeds off of the completionist in you, while older Mario games were fun just through their gameplay.

In short, older Mario games actually felt like a game, while Odyssey feels like a cheap sandbox with Easter eggs to find.

Now, Zelda... I grew up on Zelda, and it's always been my favorite game series -- I even learned to read by playing Zelda way back when. BOTW just isn't a Zelda game. It's a watered down survival sandbox with a Zelda skin on it, and a vague story behind it that really means nothing 90% of the time. Zelda games are known for exploration, story, and progression with new items and whatnot. BOTW has one of those three, and the exploration is samey and boring. Nintendo wanted to go back to Zelda 1 (for what reason I don't know, since LTTP was infinitely more popular), but then took out half the things from Zelda 1 that made it a Zelda game. It's pretty, but that's about all the game has.

So, as a Zelda game it's a failure. As a spinoff or standalone game it's just boring and shallow.

Though I really don't expect people to look at things critically. A lot of "gamers" today weren't alive in the golden age of gaming, when you could actually look forward to things. Most people nowadays just see a pretty game and ignore everything else.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

you sound so condescending.

I am pretty sure there are people who might agree with what you say, but, I can also assure you that there are people from this "golden age of gaming" who would also say both are fun. I just think it overall falls on the latter.

I had lifesteal yes, item 3139

I'm pretty sure It took me a hell of a lot of kiting and attacks to take her down yet she would have 2 shot me if I didn't QSS/Flash when I did.

Yes the only reason to play league is because we are in 2018 in the great age of just shit games and bad early access shit. Would just 1 good game come out I would leave league faster then Trump would like to have is wall build.
