If you cannot reliably land a vital skillshot on a champion

Marshbouy··14 votes·1,775 views

Reliable meaning you can land the skillshot at least 50% of the time For example, Taliyah W Velkoz E Ahri E Thresh Q Do not Go into ranked Claim to be good at the champion Engage in risky fights Pass go

Why? On a champion such as Vel'Koz it is nearly mandatory to be able to reliably land his E. Without landing his E it is hard to lane one, let along both Ws. Time and time again I have seen people (including me) go into a ranked game thinking that they are good at a champion after a few good games then fail to land a full combo, deal little to no damage, and lose. EDIT: K fine. I changed it.

I can't speak for other champs, but to be fair even the best Thresh players probably don't land 80% of their hooks.

Also sometimes landing them isn't the intention. Throwing it into their escape path as a zoning tool is viable if they're trying to escape your team.

Blocking an escape route is far more complicated and nuanced.

What I'm talking about in this post is the Vel'Koz who got battlecast from a chest, played 2 games of him before going into ranked and landing maybe 3 Es in the entire game.

blocking an escape route or zoning people off a priority target like your adc who is miss positioned at that moment counts as landing your skillshot to me

those things are important and require game knowledge and still require you to aim them in the right spot at the right time so they are equally mechanically difficult but in addition require game knowledge and are thus a step above just dumping it on your opponent

Important stuff to learn for sure

and imho those things when done right do count as landing your important skillshot

Players competent with their champion should be able to do this if they want to play them ranked or call themselves good with the champ

Friend, you have no idea how many people chastise me for "missing" all my Sion Q's when the intimidation and area denial I had utilized it for just saved their life.

as a sion main i know the feeling all too well ^^

The frustrating thing about skillshots is how easy it is to over-estimate your opponent's reaction time/skill and outplay yourself.

Like, on Zyra (E) or Lux (Q), I know the range and travel time well enough to land them 100% of the time based on the enemy's move speed. The problem comes when I assume that a skilled enemy will juke, so I aim slightly to one side so they still get hit.

Then when they stand absolutely still, I end up missing. Granted, I land some shots that make me seem like a mind-reading god. But if my opponent is a potato or not paying any attention, I'll end up missing because I gave them too much credit. =/

I tried to predict a Tahm Kench devoir this morning. Thought their low health cait would exit behind him so E/R'd the spot at the moment she was being spit out. Nope, she went in and killed my adc. RIP

Soraka 's W may not be a skillshot, but don't doubt me when I say I have to chase people across the map just to heal them. item 3070

I can land all my Blitzcrank Qs. You just might not like who I end up grabbing

Soraka's skillcap is when you can predict where your ally is gonna go so you can heal them

The enemy picks Yasuo Where are your skillshots now?

Vesemir3 votes

i think riot should mute these yasuo OP spammers.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Did he get recently buffed? Like, I agree he's total cancer to go against, but for some reason it's just more recently we've seen the boards spammed by Yasuo hate. It's not misplaced, it's just.. weird and annoying, seemingly out of nowhere.

Marshbouy3 votes

no. the last change he got was a nerf. People jut incessantly complain about Yasuo regardless of his state.

Vesemir1 votes

This. Those people probably never even played Yasuo. I literally never lost a lane against Yasuo.

Marshbouy1 votes

I've lost lanes against him, but I have not found him particularly hard to face since bruiser yasuo was destroyed.

Vesemir1 votes

As a Yasuo player that nerf hit him hard already. They even nerfed his AS ratio and you can feel the nerf.

DarkRitual1 votes

My Lux E will stop right in front of it, and still damage you through it, because I aimed it short to bait the wall out.

Don't forget to take into account the enemy's skills. People say that I suck with skillshots when it's just that my opponents are smart enough to dodge my skillshots.

That's why I play point and clicks like Yi, Khazix and kassadin :^}

Sometimes, not landing skillshots can be a skill too, especially if you manage to use the danger of your skillshot to force an opponent into a more exposed position.

AcidTheWarlock1 votes

Aaaaand that's why I play Kassadin and Viktor!

Cuz their skillshots take no skill!

I have huges succes with vel, and i'm pretty sure im below 80% with his E.

I agree that properly aiming those skills is important for succes with those champs, but 80% is a rather unrealistic value. Those skills are designed in a way that allows people to adodge it. If you face good opponents that know how to dodge, 80% simply won't happen.

Excuse me, but this is my rating and I take all responsibilities for playing a certain champ. Implying I'm not trying a new champion in ranked (first time ever) and have at least some experience beforehand, and trying to win, and cooperating with the team, it is none of your business what champions I play (unless you ask for something particular that fits a teamcomp ofc).

This game has multiple tiers of skill, players are put in their corresponding divisions for a reason and then climb. Climbing involves learning, and you don't learn how to play a champion if you only go for guaranteed plays.

Don't forget Blitzcrank

He'll literally either lose or win the fight based on who he hooks

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

vel koz all you need is W Q and R to basically kill anyone that got caught by it. his E lets you kill them without using R.

its not about landing the skill shot its about when you choose to use it. for example. if I play lux. I try to land my Q when my opponent goes to last hit a minion. or after they use a dash or during it. predict where they go. Am not gonna throw my Q out when the enemy is just chilling just hoping it lands somehow there you know what I mean. people do that a lot. and they are shit.

Or just pick things that will not be punished as harshly when they miss skillshots.

For example if you, for any reason, can't land Sona ult, you are better off not playing Sona. But if you can't land Caitlyn 's Q, you will still be a 100% functioning ADC.

Unlucky471 votes

Vel'koz is an exception in my opinion. I'm level 7 and have put at least 100 games into him and all you have to do is poke them to half and ult them assuming they don't have barrier or a movement ability. Cooldowns ridiculously low too and even if you can't land his e, he will always be useful in teamfights because of his ult.

Side note for people interested in Vel'koz DO NOT pick him when your team can't peel enemies off of you. He is a terrible pick without anyone to disengage due to his lack of mobility and people dont tend to look out for you.

Suspicious Xebra1 votes

It pains my soul when i see a Morgana who cannot land a Q if it meant saving their soul

TeCoolMage1 votes

I play Anivia and hit most of the time by using my Q as a follow up or while my wall is off cooldown and in mid range

It annoys the hell out of me when people want me to engage with it at max range, even Froggen doesn't do that.
