Is there a point in the game where you WANT to LOSE your outer turrets?

** This doesn't apply to mid lane **

So I was thinking, for top and bot lanes, is there a point in the game where your team is actually better off being without top and bottom turrets?

My reasoning: Costs of losing 1 of these turrets: Global gold to the enemy team Lack of vision / control in the nearby area Lack of a place to retreat to 1v1 when pushing out that lane

Benefits of losing 1 of these turrets: Rids teammates of a potential false sense of security - these turrets are easy to dive mid game. Potential lost xp as these turrets kill minions from too far out that you can't get there on time Lost gold for the same reason Farming any minions in the lane solo requires overextending Harder to build up a gigantic minion wave (less time before they hit a turret)

Considering late game, the corners of the map are near meaningless and the control isn't needed, I feel like there might be a point where your team is better off losing these turrets. Obviously you want to deny the global gold early for as long as possible, but eventually the couple hundred per player won't mean that much, and you'll be losing as much gold PLUS XP by having the turret up and killing minions while you're elsewhere on the map.

Has anyone else had thoughts on this? Do you bother protecting an outer turret at all once you hit a certain point in the game?

Only if you trade an objective, then it's worth it.

But it's important to note that it only makes t worthwhile to lose it. In a perfect game, you could grab the objective without losing the tower

I think you may as well keep them up as long as you can. They do become relatively weak later in game but they can still be a good anti chase tool if you need it.

Something kinda related that this reminds me of. Sometimes spectating the featured high rank games, players will go out of their way not to attack a tower. As in there will be 2-3 champions and a minion wave next to a tower, no enemy minions or champions in sight, but they'll just chill out and let the minions take down the tower.

What up with that?

If the tower is for sure going to go down, they will let the tower kill as many minions as possible to deny the enemy team gold/exp from those minions. If they just killed the tower right away, the minions would push down the lane to the enemy and they could kill them :)

Was going to say this :P

If someone can completely zone me out of touching the wave (Riven if you don't counterpick her), I will just let her take the tower so that I can farm instead of watching her farm. I just make sure to ward the path from top to mid really well so that Riven can't roam effectively. You certainly lose pressure, but it's better than having 30 cs at 10 mins lol.

Are you nasus or some other turbo farm champ? If so any time is fine so long as you still fight to save it. People tend to roam after taking a tower, meaning it's free farm time

Nope, I'm trying to reason in general. Also for team benefit rather than individual benefit. As in, it's at 35 minutes and top outer turret is still standing. Dragon is dead, enemy bot outer and inner, and mid outer are down, I'm currently in mid with one ally, two allies have just recalled / are recalling and the last is bot. So we can run 2 to top to try to save the outer by the time they push to it (will be 2v3, so we're risking deaths by going there) or we can just ignore them and try to pressure mid and bot to push the lanes and hopefully establish some vision control around dragon or the enemy jungle.
