Let's have a serious discussion about the status of Elise

Preface In the last season, elise was so dominant of a champion that riot gave her her own victorious skin. She was a nightmare of a jungler who had nasty early presence, as well as a top lane that was the stuff of nightmares. For months, it seemed like no matter how many times elise was nerfed, she'd still be the number 1 pick/ban.

Fast-forward to the present day and elise is sitting at a general win ratio of 40%, the lowest win ratio of any champion (even lower than urgot). Riot systematically nerfed her range, her damage, her tankiness, her cc duration, her escapes, her mana costs and her mobility. They nerfed literally everything there is to nerf about this champion without much (if any) compensation or attempt to bring out her strength.

The nerfs aren't even the only problem, though. There used to exist a meta of health stacking, which was predominant among all champions. We all remember the warmongs on 5/5 champions (even the supports and the adcs were running it), and almost every single champion in the league who had some form of health burn was considered OP (remember the zac rage, everyone?). Since then, the meta has evolved, and health stacking is all but non-existant. Further, they've added % of health damage to everyone and their dog (hello Sejuani, Maoki and Sion) meaning that her damage has fallen off in more ways than one. Elise was overpowered in a meta that no longer exists.

Riot has since moved on from its strategy of blindly nerfing chapions across the board until they're so underpowered you just don't even know what to do with them, which can be seen especially in their lucian changes. They attempt to really hone in on what champion's strengths are, and give them clear room to play against. Unfortunately, such is not the case with elise, as literally everything was nerfed.

Discussion I think most people who play her can agree that elise feels undertuned. That being said, she is also a versitile champion with a lot of awkward strengths and not a whole lot of weaknesses. Thus, I would like to have a discussion on what should be done to put her in a better place. More specifically,

  1. What do you like about elise? What is core about her identity, and shouldn't be removed whatsoever? What makes elise really stand out, and really appeal as a champion?

  2. What do you feel should be elise's primary strength. At the moment, elise has varying levels of strength across the board without any clear winner. She's moderately tanky, has moderate levels of utility and moderate levels of damage with moderate escapes and moderate sustain, coupled with moderate clear times. Which of her strengths is the most important to you and which do you feel is most essential to elise as a champion?

  3. What strengths would you be okay letting go of? What do you feel like is extra, unnecessary power on elise's kit? What about her as a champion feels hard to optimize and only situationally beneficial?

  4. What do you dislike about playing as/against elise? What in her kit makes her a pain to deal with? What makes you want to say "OP NERF" when facing elise?

I feel like with these questions, we delve into the core of what's holding elise back and how she should be moving forwards as a champion. Elise is undeniably in a bad spot right now, as the general public simply cannot play her effectively. Instead of just blindly adding power, we as a community ought to discuss what should be done to elise in order to put her in a better spot.

Thank you for all comments/concerns.

TL;DR How should elise be brought into a state in which she is powerful and usuable without being overbearing

I would be happy if they tried to make her focus more on using her spiders to beat down single targets. Right now she's the spider queen, and her spiders mainly just tank for her in the jungle and do some damage, but that's all. You can't really control them much beyond attacking someone yourself.

Maybe turning her into an assassin would be best for her, I mean look at her lore. It'd suit her so well. <3 I wouldn't mind if they shifted her early game terror into lategame, because right now if the game goes on too long, she's stuck as a somewhat tanky single target CC bot with ''meh'' damage. Could probably add a damage steroid to E while reducing bases on QW in human form, maybe altering the scaling so it works better, so that she can really do something later if she catches someone by herself.

Perhaps that could be accomplished by shifting more of her damages into the % of health instead of her relatively higher bases on her Q.

not seeing her around lately, i didn't know if she's this bad

well, love the idea about her spider though, i mean, little spider tanking for bigger spider is odd, little spiders should annoy enemy, not suck damage for their mom
