I swear you can check your ping before you enter a ranked game, let me help you!

  1. First you can play a custom or normal game to check your ping before you queue for ranked.
  2. Second you cane use your CMD on windows to ping server IPs, either NA or EU or whatever
  3. Third you could download a ping checker tools such as pingplotters or such to check your ping.

Really you would help yourself and us the player to be less titled by you screaming at the start of the game you got bad ping, you didn't know you got bad ping when queued up then screw us over and cost us game cause of that.

On fun side note : That player who had bad ping and i give him advice to check his ping, he scream at me and i said i got live i don't stay all day at home playing league. Like i don't know why you say that, but checking ping is the easy to do and won't take whole day just 30 second at total.

Edited : When i say check the ping, i mean check the damn server IP ping not your own ISP ping, there is big difference.

I've had plenty of times where my custom game had zero ping issues, but my live matchmade game did. Baffled me.

Just recently, I did a ping check for my internet: 14 ping. Ingame ping was spiking to 4000.

Had another game open that tells you your ping in the corner just to test it. 76 ping.

Like. I get what you're saying. But sometimes it's not our fault.

That why i said second you can check the ip server ping, not your own ISP ping.

Or you can get off WiFi or fix your system so you don't need to check.

Those two things also help, especially the WiFi. Plug in and it takes care of most of these ping problems.

I always play connected on a system that works perfectly fine and I always check my ping. You never know when your ISP can have issues. Granted I only see slowness maybe once or twice every 6 months, but it's always worth the effort to do before a game.

I continuously have 16ping. When the server was in California it was at 17. I live in Chicago. I take care of my system and use ethernet 100% of the time.

Those who have high ping do neither.

Congratulations you live in a large city next to where the servers are located.

Your assumption that someone who has high ping automatically means it's the individual's fault is either asinine or ignorant.

Yeah and when it was in California like I said in my post it was 1 ping higher than it is now.

Get off Wifi, take care of your system and get plugged in.

It will solve alot of problems.

If you wish to argue about it, that's fine too. I will enjoy my low ping and laugh at people who continue to argue this simple logic.

That is not a 100% fix. There ARE things that affect ping outside of your personal wifi. You just have to know that they exist and what they are. Evidently there is a huge network inbetween your network... and Riot's network. Then there is Riot's network itself.

It would be nice if the client displayed it before the loading screen.

Only if you play on a toaster. Even with a toaster it would help a ton. I never said it was 100% so why did you imply that I did?

Or you can get off WiFi or fix your system so you don't need to check.

That's a subtle implication about the cause. Especially when it's following a generalized 'Here's how to find your ping' post. If you're not suggesting getting off of WiFi is a 100% fix, then adding 'so you do not need to check.' is misleading and plain wrong. It doesn't fix the problem of 'holy crap, I did not know my ping was high.' which is what this post making an attempt to address. This is because you still might experience high ping despite your suggestions.

As for if you play a toaster, your computer has 0 impact (ok not literally 0 but it's low) on your ping when the cause is not from your network or if it is Riot's network. I have a 3 gig quad core with a GeForce GTX1050 and sometimes my ping spikes. It doesn't have a ton to do with your 'toaster'. Your FPS will. Ping not nearly so much since the CPU cycles it takes is rather small comparatively these days.

Your ping might be up and will not be fixed by 'non toastering' your computer, and getting on a direct connection instead of wifi iiiif: Are you on cable and during high traffic times?
Is Riot being DDOSd? Riot's servers messing up. There have been times in the past few years where it was Riot's servers.

Just to name a few.

Read the article I linked or continue to argue and use your WiFi. In the meantime I will enjoy my low ping and laugh at all those who continue to argue about this.

The most funny thing about it is people talk out their asses and have not even tried to plug in and see if it helps them.

That why i told people to check their server IP not ISP ping then say i got like 10-ms , ofcourse you will get less than 10 ms to your ISP location server.

Agreed, but it'd be nice if the function was built into the new client itself. Finding out your ping to Riot's server can either be annoying because you have to find the IP to ping (and then idk if Riot's servers are behind a load balancer so you might only find out what your ping to the load balancer is and not to the behind the scenes server), or make a batch file you can run. That's still annoying though. lol

well they already give you a ping check thing in game but honestly otherwise, the rest on you to check the ping before you go in ranked atleast. Like i don't care if you lagging in normal or aram, but in ranked dude atleast just check the ping.

Hethalean2 votes

I agree. It's a quality of life thin. If they just had it on the top menu bar of the client next to the store or something, it'd make it far easier to check and thus far more likely the average joe who doesn't have the skills to check themselves will check their ping with it.

But it hard, remember every server got around 3 -5 hosts with different ip so atleast NA server for example would display 3 or more different pings. It thin yes but as software part, it could be annoying to to display playing in code and UI of launcher .

True how many times i saw people play on wifi then cry about bad ping.

The amount of times I've heard the lag excuse seems infinite. Worst problem in the game? It's Ultra-Frustrating.

And all it take a simple server IP ping test before they queue up, they would help themselves and us by not get us frustrating and raging not to mention the amount of lp you lose cause of that.

Cable internet and a fast PC will get the job done no matter where you are. Anything else is sub-par.

Let me help you...

Riot has already stated although this is a good way it's not 100% the server you ping is encrypted and closed due to security purposes, therefore this is not 100% reliable but still suggested and will give you a close figure.

I used this myself when Rogers Canada was dox'd and could play at low peak hours, Also you'd have to ping it several times ( not a big deal ) to get an estimate on ping fluctuation, if you've pinged it 4-5 times and its not within a few MS you will experience packet loss.

As for determining your ping, its never the actual figure and you can expect a spike in game of around 10MS ( unless you're on a highend pc with good bandwidth.)

Still better to queue blindly into ranked game and just all of sudden you see that you got 300ms ping in loading screen then cry all game about it and cost game for others. Atleast trying to make checks on the ip location that riot give is better than nothing.

League has a native ping-checker which also tells you how you compare to others in your area (so you know if your ping is good for the server distance)

https://lagreport.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/

I'm not surprised nobody remembers it exists, I don't think Riot's mentioned it since its release.

This is probably a stupid question, but how do I find the server IP address? I hunted through the help file but can't seem to find it.

Since you are NA, 104.160.131.1, 104.160.131.2, 104.160.131.3 should work for you

And don't search forum or help, just go in good type league of legends X server ip numbers. mostly work for me or you could just ask support as well.
