"Just dodge the ability"

It's really, really funny to see people use that argument, specifically for Darius. It's as if his players think they themselves are complete idiots for only being able to use his simple kit, to the point that they would never think to use the Q when the opponent's dash is down.

  1. His only ability that can be dodged is his Q. And for some reason Darius players use this argument as if none of them know how to land it.

  2. His early-to-mid strength comes from his ability to trade autos and get bonus AD for doing nothing more than clicking the opponent.

There's only so far you can go in pretending your champion is balanced just to pump up your own ego.

A champion's skillset should not make it so that the matchup is determined solely by whether or not you hard-counter them. As it is, the only champions with a high win rate against Darius are ones who directly counter his kit. Jayce, who never has to get into range. Riven, whose shield and mobility can allow her to negate his passive bleed. And any ranged champion who can go top.

The matchup should not be decided in champion select. He's far too simple a champion to allow the only ones who stand a chance to be ones who picked after him.

Well he has been since his release. The juggernaut update only modernized his kit. He may not be feast-or-famine in the sense that he will be worthless when he gets behind, but in another sense that he has either a guaranteed win or guaranteed loss based on the matchup. Any half-decent Darius player will beat anyone who doesn't hard counter him via kiting, and vise-versa. It's always been that way.

The argument that you "can dodge" his Q is worthless, since every other ability is easy to land and we're to assume the player is actually human, so they aren't going to be starting the Q when they know you have means to dodge it.

List of champions with >50% overall win ratios that have a favorable (or even easy) lane against Darius:

Pantheon 54.33% Kayle 53.99% Riven 53.28% Tryndamere 52.47% JarvanIV 51.95% Olaf 51.19% Heimerdinger 51.07% Quinn 50.92% Fiora 50.77% Teemo 50.83% Jayce 50.52% Mordekaiser 50.27%

most of these guys don't actually "hard counter" Darius' kit. Now obviously these guys all have some sort of advantage against Darius because that's how champion matchups work. Darius is generally weak against skirmishers/ranged/duelists, which is generally what you see here.

Remember that these are only the ones that counter Darius that also have a >50% win ratio overall. Some other honorable mentions are: Kennen Illaoi Jax Yorick

my point is, there are a lot of unfavorable matchups for Darius and he is generally easy to counterpick as well. Not only that, but Darius only "dominates" some matchups. His range is fairly limited and he can't easily tower dive because the majority of his damage requires being in combat for extended amounts of time. I'm saying this to point out that playing defensive against a Darius isn't the hardest thing to do. As with most juggernauts, your fate isn't sealed from champ select the same way as if like...you're playing Velkoz against Zed or whatever. Actually though, mid lane has a lot more cancer matchups than top does with the whole "mage vs assassin" thing.

Darius crowds out a lot of tanks though, which is important to note, but so do most juggernauts and just about every duelist/skirmisher as well.

10 out of the 12 you listed do hard counter Darius's kit. 11 if we include the fact Olaf.

And the argument that "you can play defensive against him" falls completely flat. Playing defensive is something you should be forced to do if you already made a mistake in game. NOT from the very start simply because you didn't get to pick a counter to your opponent.

That's the main flaw I'm trying to point out. Darius's overwhelming strengths make it so you either have to counter pick or play safe. There is nothing else you alone can do if the Darius player isn't a complete idiot.

It's all well and good for someone to get a 40 farm lead on you because they've killed you twice. It's not okay when Darius can do so simply by not being stupid enough to use his Q on minions when there will never be a need to do so.

I need you to give me a definition of "hard counter", because if you think Olaf, J4, and Morde are hard counters then I think you are very off...

I still don't know why this just isn't a sub board where u have to be confirmed to be x+ age to post or view and there isn't any limits of toxicity

Well people lie about age all the time.

Some people aren't good enough to play without the raw stat advantage Darius supplies, and opt only to learn that he can much more easily play safe against his counters than others can against him. And sometimes they feel big harassing people on the boards 'cause they also have nothing better to do with their time than to pretend they're worth a damn.

his pull is also a dodgeable skillshot

The Ecdysiast2 votes

His pull is not a dodgeable skillshot. It's an instant-cast cone.

Automated Riven1 votes

Just cause it casts very quickly doesnt mean it isnt a dodgeable skillshot. Cho silence is a dodgeable skillshot as well and that is almost as instant cast and far wider then darius pull.

Darius is - roughly - balanced.

He is completely unfair for tanks, and IMO is the reason for which toplane tanks are either dominating or non-existant in recent seasons, but his power level is only a bit over average after nerfs.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

He's balanced around the fact his counters counter him as hard as he counters everyone else. That's the bottom line.
