Riot why are nerfing Syndra's ult instead of reverting the MYMU changes?

Nausicäa ··35 votes·2,218 views

The MYMU changes made it way too easy to get 6-7 sphere ultimates where as previously it took high CDR and a decent amount of effort to pull off. The MYMU changes effectively lowered her skill cap. The ease with which Syndra can now maximize her ultimate damage makes the ability overpowered, NOT its current base damage. Her ultimate used to be balanced by the fact it had a long and situational set up time.

The MYMU update changes were literally change for the sake for change, no one wanted them. Her passive was boring but who cares? Her overall kit worked great.

This is so typical of Riot's sloppy balancing: -buff X on an already decent champion, -champion becomes overpowered -nerf Y -Champion is worse than before original changes.

Its honestly infuriating that your balance team does this time and time again there are endless examples.

Why not just revert the changes that made the champion overpowered in the first place instead of randomly nerfing other things later? Are you guys really so stubborn that you cant accept your original changes were bad and unnecessary?

I made a similar post about malz, riot should stop being so stubborn, admit their mistakes and revert the champion to a healthier state until they can plan out a better rework that they actually put some thought into.

old malz could have been so much better for their ideals if they just made his ult deal lower damage but make the champ take extra damage from his other abilities so he will still ahve to combo to get his kill and he shouldn't be able to instakill any squishies with ult alone.

How was Malzahar a mistake, again? New Malzahar is fine. It's not like old Malz didn't have problems.

New Malzahar has a lot more issues (design, counterplay, game health) than old Malz ever did. The new passive + voidlings is terrible to play against, and Riot has been forced to tinker with his kit a bunch of times since his rework to try and balance him. Old Malzahar, by comparison, was a much simpler and healthier champion for the game.

The complaint everyone had about him was that he rooted himself during his ultimate, which prevented him from positioning safely during a teamfight if he ever wanted to lock on someone. Instead of just changing his ult to something different, they introduced one of the most broken passives in the entire League, made his voidlings an absolute mess to deal with to the point where they now die in one-aa to become remotely manageable.

The rework only exasperated his old issues and cranked them up to 11.

The passive was broken at first, sure, but you are aware they nerfed it, right? It's very fair now, and there's so many things that knock it off and make it disappear near instantly when you're fighting him later on.

Ya, i totally saw this change coming even though we were pretty much promised during her rework that if the changes broke her ult then her ult itself would not get nerfed. Absolute joke.

I see what you mean.

Before, if you played Syndra well, you were rewarded with very high damage. It wasn't consistent, because it took skill and planning. If you played her badly, you wouldn't do nearly as much damage, but it would be consistent.

Now, you can consistently maximize damage, and that's what makes her OP. Lowering the base damage will still allow you to hit that cap consistently, but even if you play well, you aren't rewarded more than this now easy-to-attain cap. Thus, a consistently lackluster champ.

I don't even play Syndra and this makes sense.

Syndra never had any skill requirement. If her current ult is required some setup that can be achieved very easily,Her should should have low base damage. If her ult before the update required a lot more effort to set up,then it deserved to have high base damage.

Also because it's undodgeabale and point and click, same as for anivia's E nerf(which is also deserved)

I dont get why ppl consider her a high skill champ.

Handin Out Naps2 votes

Indeed, always boggles my mind when someone puts skill and syndra together.

Astôlfo4 votes

That implies Riot would admit they did something wrong. Which is extremely rare.

Handin Out Naps3 votes

Syndra doesn't even need to get many spheres up to 100-0 you at lvl 6. Her ult needs nerfs.

I'm happy for nerf. The "press R and delete" mechanic sure got annoying. I'm hoping this change will lower her playrate and winrate as well as separate the "good" Syndras from the "bad" Syndras. (Not that there's been much difference in the past)

Anivia item 3070 They'll probably gut syndra all the same as they did anivia with very little compensation in return.

Hyperiön1 votes

Anivia is getting some tweaks this patch though. 300% dmg now...

Requiemsfire2 votes

Yeah it was 150% damage before, then they halved her ratios from 0.25 to 0.125 and her base damage from 160 to 80, then they doubled the damage her empowered ult deals which pretty much deals the same damage as before just in 1.5 seconds instead of 3 which is pretty nice but to me it doesn't compensate.

Automated Riven1 votes

People dont stay in anivias ult for 1.5 seconds.

RavenMagus1 votes

The 300% damage is equal to the 200% it was before, because the base got cut in half.

The only bonus is that the storm is much quicker to charge, but the immediate damage is half what it used to be.

Honestly, I think she's in a far better place now, mechanics wise. I just hope they undo that E nerf.

with 2 balls up (this means 5 balls including the ones that circle her) her ult will deal more damage at higher range then veigar ult.

so even with less balls the base damage is still stupid

to paint the picture at max damage range for veigar ult at lvl 1 his base damage is 350 +150%AP but the enemy has the be low for that first at 5 balls lvl 1 syndra ult does 450 +100%ap AT ALL STAGES

I think they should revert the W change, but keep the updated Q passive.

The only time Syndra's ult can 1 shot is if she is targeting a squishy, is fed, and throws a 7 sphere ult. She is very easily countered, and her stun is easy to dodge. It sounds to me like everyone here stands in the line of dark spheres or stupidly approaches her when she has some Dark Spheres around.

Syndra players do Q+E quickly for a stun. They don't place spheres and wait for you to walk in line to stun you with E.

I think they need to reduce her ability to Q stack, or if they are reducing the base damage on her ult, allow her a higher ball cap (currently 7) or higher AP%.

Her thing is "unlimited power" which is her ability to make her ult more powerful by playing properly. Veiger just hits R, another targeted ult, and there is no way to avoid it outside of zhonya's, untargetable, etc. Syndra at least has to Q, Q close to the first, W, Q, then R to get her max power. That's a lot more planning than just flash R.

The only saving grace is that Veigar's ult is totally negated by a spell shield (not sure about Morgana's, but others it is), whereas only Syndra's first ball is negated.

And Syndra's AP will max out at a certain point, where as Veigar's can continue to grow throughout the game even higher than it could before because now hitting a champion with ANY ability counts as a stack for him whereas Q farming sorta limited how quickly he could gain AP before cause he needed minions/monsters to kill.

Automated Riven1 votes

and the other saving grace is that without is ult viegars damage is highly unreliable. and pretty much all of it is based on landing a stun and actually stunning people with it. anyone with qss or cleanse just walks out of all of viegars damage with the exception of cornercase wombos.

Yeah, thank you for nerfing a champion that takes no skill whatsoever who can 100-0 you with the click of a button without needing to land any skillshots if you're squishy.

Because her ultimate is the only ability she has...kappa

MonkyOfSpace1 votes

Because it only takes her point and click ultimate to kill squishies, rofl. Cry about it.

Because her 5 balls ult keeps one shotting me when my heddrinker is down.

Riot doesn't give a damn about balance, and that's the issue. They make changes to champs in order to make money, not to try and actually balance the game.
