Riot context on thresh buff?
this guy still sees lcs play has an overloaded kit and is one of the most played champion there are champion who never seen lcs play or almost never seen it ( and all this since his release)

He already benefits from souls in terms of shield since they give him AP. This just makes it more obvious. Make his souls more important. He doesn't much care about them, especially beyond the laning phase. It's something I never understood why they didn't do it earlier tbh.
^ i agree with this so much. Threshs souls felt so unimportant that its cool to see something like this being added for him
It's because he's legit like one of the only viable supports out of the few. Why do you think people are taking mages bot lane, why have a champion that does no damage or had its utility gutted because it was found "too strong" when you could have a extra carry bot. Tbh a pretty large chunk of real core designed support champions are due for buffs.
Especially Nunu. I'm assuming they have a rework in store for him so gonna hold my breath on that
Taken from Ask Riot:
There are some supports that are pretty healthy for the game and fun to play are just a bit weak (Thresh)
-Thresh -Healthy
Pick one of those two. If someone's kit is overloaded to the point that if he is strong he is completely crowding out his role because he lacks meaningful weaknesses then that champion is anything but healthy.
Oh, and he still sports a 29% pick rate. Yes, he is most definitely struggling, Buff that terrible champion please.
i play against thresh, every time i outplay him, unlike a lot of support when they are broken
to op, this is hardly a big buff, in late game he will gain like 60 more hp shield.

He's pretty much always had a negative general win rate though.
Also, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, Thresh does is either short range or moderately telegraphed. Unlike some bullshit Blitz nonsense, who's not picked in the LCS as much because he's too offense-oriented with very little in the way of defense, Thresh has clear tells and weaknesses for the strengths he puts on the table, but he's more well-rounded. He's picked in pro play simply because he's well-rounded, not because he's "toxic".
thresh sucks hard and he needed buffs, they also made his souls more important by giving them another mechanic
Because Riot's been moving away from AD/AP scalings on Tanks the past year? Just look at Poppy, goes Full Tank and still a threat. Look at Taric, goes full tank and still a threat. Gangplank's always a threat because his Barrels ignore 50% of armor, can Crit, and apply Sheen procs. Garen has (unreliable) True Damage and Darius gets an AD Steroid...
Essentially from what I can gather, Riot wants Tanks to be late-game threats in ways that don't make them rely on Damage Items. Unfortunately, that's gotten pretty mixed results so far (Either we get Poppy/Taric who legit go Full Tank and are still able to do some obscene damage, or we get the Juggernauts who only need maybe 50 AD to remain a threat the whole game.)
Giving Tresh buffs is rly dumb.
