If you really want to climb, then pick one and learn the ins and outs of that champ. You'll eventually know that champ so well you'll climb yourself out of whatever elo you're in (if you play enough games).
However, you seem more like the support-type, even in the mid-lane.
In that case, I would follow Phijkchu Baku's advice on your 3 pick choices. It's pretty solid.
Veigar has that killer cage that is loved by many AD melee champs, so he's a good choice overall for you purpose. Viktor on the other hand, is not really a support and I would never play him like one.
This is not necessarily true. I am very good with draven (for my elo I guess I should say, and in regards to mechanics only, not decisions or playing as a team). I couldnt carry myself out of bronze with him.
I think it will be different this season 6 because of items like yomu's and rfc and some cdr items that are available, but its not true that you can carry yourself with just any champion.
Last season, as draven I really had to get bt and lw before the top laner built armor or the game was either about allowing myself to get carried or it was over for me. This season, lw costs 1300 and Yomu's can be a first buy. If I go that rout, armor will not shut me out of 15 minutes of usefulness. I might not have sustain, esp if I went cull, but I should be able to put some dmg on the top laner and stay safe with my active. Theres also enough cdr out there and also rfc charges fast enough, that I dont have to struggle to keep axes spinning in a siege. That basically clears up all of the things that kept my draven down. Now I think i can climb with my best champ.
Thats all to provide a counter example to your point though. You cant just carry yourself with any champ. It might be a bit different if you have a lot of experience at higher elo's. Then you can carry with any. But if you havnt had a chance to play against tougher opponents and succeed, then low elo is going to restrict the champs you can play.
As another example, my mid lane ekko used to be really reliable bc I had flask and 2 pots. I could sustain until I had sorc shoes and that cdr book. Its not a huge difference, taking away those pots, but now I cant lane as ekko even though I used to do that. I went from a >50% win ratio and a lot of fun loosing to <40% win ratio and much less fun. Maybe I can change to clarity and dorans for more spamming, but I dont know. I am in doubt that mid ap ekko is even viable in bronze anymore unless you have that higher elo experience.
To me, the champs you really can say what you are sayiing have to be champs that have a strength that have a high chance of not being foiled. So, last season draven could easily be foiled by 400 hp, 40 ad, and 50 armor on one melee champion unless things were already going his way to an unfair extreme. My ekko could just sit around and farm without backing for over 10 minutes and then roam with sorc shoes. You couldnt really stop him from doing this. It wasnt broken imo. I was worth maybe 20-30 farm, some exp and the ability to get a successful gank later on if you are good enough. Maybe kill a jungler at blue even. So ekko was starting to be more reliable than a champ I had MUCH more experience with. He had a path to victory that was very simple and clear.
To some extent, the champions I am now asking about have the same thing. A thing you cannot take from them. Victor has the ability to clear the back line of minions with one spell cast. He almost always will and therefor he is difficult to put further and further behind as the game progresses. He will only ever be so far behind bc of his farming. Ahri doesnt have much guaranteed offensively. If she doesnt have dmg then she just doesnt and she cant farm that well either, but she does have a support playstyle to fall back on (I have won games peeling for pre-rework fiora with charm. Thats all I had to do.). Viegar will snowball from 7 min of freefarm, but if he doesnt, his stunwall can be lvled for a really long stun and his e can be lvld for strong farming and aoe dmg.
Draven has 0 to fall back on if rengar or renekton snowball. Nothing.
I would like to know which teamcomps are going to let me get the most out of the semi guaranteed shit I can get out of Ahri, Viegar, and Victor. I might also pick up TF sometime soon. He has a stun, long range poke, and a farming win condition. I can also use his ult to shut a toplaner down after a lucky early dive. He will probably replace victor and/or ahri, but probably only victor.
