Being demoted from Silver to Bronze

If you are silver 5, can you be demoted into the bronze tiers? I have heard so many conflicting ideas on this. I heard you cannot drop below the tier you were placed in after your 10 placement matches. I also heard it only happens if you don't play for along time, but I know they got rid of elo decay 2 patches ago.

Problem is I have been on a losing streak because of some bad games. I want to keep playing ranked and hopefully move up (never know, League of Luck, see who your team-mates are) but I don't want to not be in silver at the end of the season.

Has anyone been in this situation and been demoted?

Silver and Bronze is not affected by decay.

if it starts matching you with bronze 3, you are about to be demoted.

I've dropped from G5 to S1 a few times. It takes a LOT of losses in a row though.

Idk where you get your info on elo decay. I took a 3 month break and my league pts were down to -3.

Yes you can be kicked back to previous, they made it so because last season ppl who finally made it into next tier (knowing they couldnt go back) would just troll and abuse ranked because they had 0 preasure to perform. It was really bad in Plat 5/Gold 1. I assume it was bad in each division 1.

Elo Decay for Gold and lower was removed less than a month ago.

I've been demoted from silver like 3 times, and made it back again...

I really think you should at least get another series before you get demoted from a tier like this.

Was SIlver 3 at the start of this season. Left for a few months and played ranked he entire weekened I came back. Big mistake, sinceI dropped all the way to Bronze 4. Spent the entire season climbing out. Now I'm SIlver again with a really high MMR (it was super poor before). Don't make the same mistake I did, and if you do, use easy champs that you know how to play. I climed out using primarily Annie and Ryze , although I also used Aatrox and Lux from time to time since they are my mains in Ranked 5v5s.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll stay put this season until it ends, and get better through normals. It's my first season, and I'd like the silver border at least :).

I'm pretty sure you can only get demoted a full league if your MMR is equivalent to an entire league down. So you wont get demoted out of silver V unless your MMR is that of a bronze V player. I could be wrong about the exact specifics though.

It can definitely happen if you go on a crazy losing spree, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
