This whole assassins sentiment is completely backwards

Divewing··4 votes·740 views

I remember when everyone was screaming that Assassins had no counterplay. Now all of a sudden "Annie is the last great assassin"?

What kind of backwards shit is this. Am I being led to believe that you all thought old Talon was healthy for the game? Because that's what's being implied.

Good lord you can't give them what they want because they change their mind as soon as you give it to them...

It's more a questioning of why all these assassins are having their burst gutted while champs like Annie can still 1 shot you, and from range at that.

No, its not. You can see Annie coming, and she can be shut down by certain spells, usually outranging her, but a few melee range ones as well.

(For example Elise, Ahri, Alistar etc.)

Whereas old Talon was either completely useless or completely uncounterable, as unlike Annie Morgana's black shield does nothing to protect his target against him and at the end of the game he could usually oneshot any player he wanted to, be they a tank, juggernaut or support. (Malphite, Garen, Taric.)

talon would never delete a tank or juggernaut lol

you can't see talon coming? his blink is roughly the same range as Tibbers and he can't do much unless he gets a flank or flashes. it's the same gameplay pattern; get in range and unload your combo as fast as possible.

They're more concerned over this: "how come assassins can't 100-0 people in 0.5 seconds anymore but ADCs and mages still can?"

While completely ignoring the fact that these assassins got plenty of new tools to be hyper mobile and not being feast/famine. Completely ignoring the fact that ADCs still need his teammates to babysit his ass or else he can't go "assassin mode". Completely ignoring the fact that mages uh, have to worry about spell shields much more than assassins do (since assassins rely on mobility, not CC).

Well Shaco and Akali didn't really get any new tools. Akali got a dash that no Akali main likes, and Shaco got a trio of fear boxes on his ultimate that share a health bar and take time to arm.

Both of these champions lost a lot of burst without receiving much of anything other than the Stealth changes.

(Not saying I object to either of these changes. I think Shaco needs to be in the trash can until he can get a full Poppy rework, and Akali will never be healthy, just saying that not every assassin got tools in exchange for the nerfs).

Someone finally says it.

Why do people defend Annie like she's not the easiest champion to play in the game?

The point is her kit is just as toxic as these old champions.

Because she counters high mobility champions like no one else. It also hurts immobile champions, but it's seen as a necessary evil for the boards due to Yasuo hate.

I think the point being made isn't that assassins should have near-instant, low-counterplay burst, but that nobody should. Much of the rationale behind stretching out the damage output of assassins can be applied to mages and even marksmen, and Annie's brought up as an example because she's infamous for being completely centered around point-and-click, near-instant burst that is impossible to counter while affected by her stun, which her mini-update did nothing to really address. Assassins are meant to be the epitome of burst damage, and following their rework there will be entire subclasses of champions at risk of out-bursting them, or bursting more reliably than them. The players putting up those threads don't want assassins to remain as bursty as they are, they want to add more counterplay to the burst of those other champions. Combo-based burst mages are also a hot topic after Syndra's popularity at Worlds, and it does raise the genuine issue of those mages being able to nullify a lot of the risk inherent in their skillshots by hitting their opponent with a single crowd control ability, and following up with enough burst to pop a squishy while they're still locked down.
