His Q and Avarice blade are for farming which turns off the passive on spellthief's edge. So this combination is counter-synergistic.

Then why even get Avarice? You pay 800 gold for 10% crit chance and +3 gold per 10. The only gold you'll get is the passive, which means it becomes gold efficient after 16 minutes and 40 seconds. If you are able to hold onto it for almost 17 minutes you'll finally be getting a TINY bit more gold than what you paid for.

You can actually use spelltheifs while farming if you can time your harass in between waves. It'd be hard with gangplank, but I saw Hai get spelltheifs on mid morgana on stream. He would get 3 stacks with w quickly when spelltheif/frostfang off cooldown then farm while the stacks regen.

Well yah if you mad frost queens claim or just get ancient coin with gold generating ruins and get avarice blade your passive gold count is like 14 extra per 10 secs if you have the mastery utility trees

it's in the avarice item's passive, it is allowed as an extra gold item. otherwise certain junglers wouldn't buy it

Not anymore actually, Avarice Blade actually says you can have it with other GP5 items on it. Additionally you can actually have 3 "Gold generation" items: A support item, a Jungle item (generates 30 per large monster), and Avarice Blade.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out.

Though I can't really imagine any other scenario where that would be useful besides a 2nd adc as a support, or yasuo support.
