A letter from a challenger brazilian player about the new ranked system

DropFill··47 votes·5,526 views

I will introduce myself : My main is Imagine Dragon, which I play on the brazilian server. Yes, I know most of you will say that Brazil sucks and etc, but I was D4 when still playing on the NA server... And I had 200 ping. Also, my english is not that good. This is the game I have been more addicted so far among most games I have played, and my favorite game mode is ranked solo. Why? Because it is competitive. And yes, I like being 200 top players of my country, which I can only get by playing ranked. But, those 200 people aren't exactly....200. But half of them are not people like me. Atleast 40 players ( I think ) are professional players. And they have several smurfs there. So, let's assume that we have something close to 150 real players on challenger. Most of them are in some team trying to be pro ( a lot actually). So, assuming the players that already have a team and professional players, we have something like...80 players on challenger who play this because they really like it, and are good at it, but are not professional players nor have a team trying to be pro. Most of them play solo only, and the new ranked system will basically destroy any chance of going solo again. Most professional players will queue up as a team, so will the other players with a team. Our timers are already HUGE, sometimes I have to wait 20min to find a match. This will not only make it worse, but will make the games at my division extremely unbalanced and unfun. Please riot, if you want to apply this "dinamic queue", apply it only until you reach plat. After that , only solo/duo ( or not even duo ), because we don't lack teamwork there. Please, if this changes go through, I will probably quit...

I used to play him too. I knew he had problems just by playing him...but they tossed his whole identity out the window...and oddly enough, our hollow suit of armor is a hollow shell of his former self.

a self players are now afraid to play as because he is almost assuredly banned and even though the numbers are similar, if not even better...without waveclear, he doesn't feel like mordekaiser

Quale menor tudo 2? w/e i don't see any problem in the new system if you can play with 2 friends, like 3 guys playing together i can understand it, but the real problem begin with 4/5 players http://www.theculinaryexchange.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/bee-stings-shutterstock_107138072-617x416.jpg cause it will be something so wrong in so many ways, the new system should only apply for 1/2/3 players cause the game will become unplayable if u can play ''solo queu'' with 4 frieds lmao.

I am brazilian, not mexican. I don't speak spanish. 3 guys playing together is majority of the team already, so it is already a problem. Even duo are problematic most of the times.

spanish, well i think you don't speak carioques. about the duo problem, it is really simple if you want to play solo queu there should be an option to play only solo queu, if you wanna play with 1/2/3/4 friends there should be another queu, riot should have done this long time ago.

Riot wrote already that solo queue gone long time ago. In every game we have duo premades on one side or both. But they never said about it before, and nobody ever complained.

So if were always playing vs or against premades there is no reasons to complain about those premades.

Actually....we have always complained about premades. Both in normals ( the classic 4 man premade) or duo queue on ranked, no one ever liked to be queued up with one of them. God, even I don't like being matched with a duo on my team, doesn't matter on good they are.

dEAdbUs3 votes

Noone? You can't talk for everyone.

How can you complain about premades in online multiplayer game? This game was made for playing with friends.

Plus pro games are all about teamplay, and its becoming weird to watch them, because they're so different comparing to soloq. Riot Games want to make sport game, and first step they need to make us play same that pros are playing. And as said already - they're playing not in solo game, they're playing in teamplay game.

We have other modes for that. You can play Normals, Team Builder and Ranked 5's with your friends, exclusively.

People have complained about premades and yoloQ not exactly being yolo thanks to duo for many years now.

dEAdbUs2 votes

No offense, but challenger tier doesn't make your opinion special or important. We are all equal and we are all in same boat.

I advice you to try new queue first, and then write about timers. You have whole preseason for that.

"OP champs when they are not OP" I beg to differ with you here. While there are many bad players (tip: bad is only bronze, silver is average, and gold is already good) that don't want to progress in their subconscious and just blame everything they can find, there are diferences beteen elos. If a champ is problematic for the majority of the players, it is problematic and must be fixed. Regardless if this majority includes or not the top or the bottom of the ladder. And if it is EXTREMELY problematic for a small minority, it is problematic and must be fixed too, whatever this minority is.

The problem is, if a champ is extremely problematic to low elo and balanced to high elo, as soon as he gets nerfed because of low elo he no longer can be played at high elo, because he is extremely weak.

Firstly, that's why reworks exist and not only balance changes. Who cares if AP Yi could be contained in high ELO? It had to stop being an autowin in low ELO. Now he's still stronger at the lower end, but not as ridiculously.

Secondly, high elo is a handful of people who care about winning. They can adapt to the 20 or so champs that are viable for their level. The mass of normal players, conversely, simply wants to play a game and have fun with the kit they like the most. It's much more important to have a balanced blind pick for bronze than a balanced draf pick for challenger.

Thirdly, we are the mass of customers. Democracy, economy and moral economy (aka common sense) are on our side.

Now, this isn't saying that as the other guy suggested the requests of higher elo players should be ignored in favor of lower elo's. It just means that, if conflict, ours should prevail. Here, there's no conflict: they'd just need to deactivate a function above a certain level.

If AP Yi could be contained in high elo, it would prove the point that it's NOT A BALANCE ISSUE. The problem would be somewhere else, and mainly the problem would be the simple fact that low elo players do not know how to play this game properly. So it would be a skill issue, or rather the lack thereof.

Probably, but that's not important nor relevant when it comes to balance. The point is that high elo people, even though handful, are the people who know how to play the game optimally and it's champions to their full extend. Low elo players do not.

Wtf no, absolutely not. Bronze players have very little clue how to play the game. You can't balance any game around people like that. Period. It would only lead to more broken stuff above that level. Reminds me of the old games, like Need For Speed Underground 2 where on the casual level (= low elo) you could use all the cars available, while on the competitive side (= high elo), everybody used Toyota Corolla because it was broken when modded right. That's what would happen when you balance the game around people who have no clue.

Who cares if you guys can play. You're supposed to. No one gives a shit. The game must still remain usable for its customers. And yes, as I said since things are valued differently at different levels it's much better to have EVERYTHING usable down on earth, and up where people actually believe this is some kind of weird profession or religion or I have no idea what just have those 20 usable champs for them to make a complete draft.

No. Because blind pick exist and everything should be viable in blind pick (the addition of for example scaling MR to Singed goes this way) regardless of the matchup, and you gys end up using only 20 champs anyway.

We "only use" twenty champions on the pro play. At solo queue, we use way more champions than you think. And the reason pro play use such a small pool of champs is that riot balance sucks.

Please understand that if you're in the top 0.05% of players you are a weirdo. Go "compete" with other weirdos at the few champs that you deem strong enough for your highness. I am a weirdo....because I am good? Jesus Christ. You trully have no clue what you talking about. I don't abuse balance, like I said, I was a darius and fiora main prerework, and they were pretty bad. You just have 0 game knowledge and wants everyone to get to your level because you can't be good at this game.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Yet again, no. Being good requires being good at everything. Being bad only requires being bad at at least one thing. Being above the worst player means doing at least one thing partially right. Why am I not B5 0 LP? Maybe- just maybe - because that one thig that I'm good at is game understanding. You can't presume it isn't the case by default. And yes, you are not normal if you are in the top 0,05%. You either hard trained for a videogame and are pretty talented, or are exceptionally talented. Either way, you're statistically irrelevant as much as outliers on the bad side of the spectrum.

And no, I don't want everyone to be at my level. I want the game to make sense, aka to be balanced around a level of skill lower than mine - the one I wish I had. Because I improved. Oh, did I. But it only makes the game less enjoyable because it forces me to think about all those technical elements, remember them, understand how they apply to the current situation. Because my enemies do think about them, and if I don't catch up to them I am powerless the whole game. But this isn't what I'm looking for in League. I like the colors, the pretty animations. Not this shit about objectives, map movement and all.

I don't like the game because the "better" I get, the more I have to be focused to the point of risking a collapse. I want to be bad again and be able to ignore my map because everyone else does so too. I want to be bad and be able to miss CS becuse my lane opponent does so too. I want the game to be less snowbally but structures to be weaker so that you can keep failing and failing and still have anything to do in the game when faced with a fed opponent, without it translating in 60 minute games.

Your arguments weren't that bad. But after this, I don't think you know what you talking. You want to play poorly and still go up in elo because everyone does? First , no one does this because they want. If you want to play extremely poorly, you are not going to rise up in elo, and this new queue will reinforce the lack of skill of most low elo players. This is a huge mistake and your argument shows this.

Nononononono. I want to go down in ELO. I want to be bad. And I want to be matched up with bad players. Because at Silver level it already can't be considered a game anymore. I'm playing ranked only because my opinion is dismissed here on BOards because of my elo. We talked about game balance philosophies, not anything specific that you can judge my game understanding on. However, even if you were to consider the game design philosophies as a test of one's understanding of this specific game, I gave valid arguments and you didn't.

  1. Can't balance any system around any 0,05% of users
  2. And in particular not around the ones that are able to use it ideally, since you can act worse than your best but not better than your best. A challenger can play like a bronze, a bronze can't play like a challenger.

Democracy is not being applied because you are ignoring a part of the community. Economy? Because you guys will stop "wasting" your money into the game because riot doesn't do what you want? Like they did several times, but yet still people still buy their things? Moral is a matter of perspective. Save one kid or one thousand?

If the game was balanced around only low elo, this game would be a mess.

Because it currently isn't? Because only 20 champs haven't been viable in competitive play for years (except this year)? What would change, for you, in the end? Except the idea that some low elo guy is getting prioritized over you, but then if that's the only problem you might want to give a glance to your ego.

If a champ is problematic for the majority of the players, it is problematic and must be fixed.

Incorrect. It's not a balance issue if the people who actually know how to play the game, can handle it. Then the issue is somewhere else; lack of skill and knowledge in lower elos how to deal / counter / play around that champ.

INCORRECT. This is a produc for us to have fun. We don't give a shit that you can do fancy stuff with it, if it doesn't work it must be changed.

Everybody can have more fun, when things are not imbalanced and broken ... hence pretty much every competitive game is balanced around people who know what they are doing and how to play the game to minimize those situations.

Exactly. Azir is a good example of it. People who have no clue how to play him have a stupid low win ratio, because how hard he is to play.

"Fancy stuff with it" You mean " Play it correctly?" Because if yes you have no clue what you talking about.
