Autofill. You hate it, or you don't even care that it's there.

My question: Do any of the older players who played before the new 'pick your role' thing have this burning hatred for autofill? We didn't choose roles back then anyway, so I don't think it's any different.

Been playing since season 1, back in the day you had to be able to play every role with at least 2 characters.

I don't hate being auto filled, it's gonna happen sooner or later.

What I dislike is when other people get auto filled and instantly become tilted and throw matches for every one.

dragon1xx1 votes

for reference league had less than 70 champs back then and you were only allowed to play certain ones in ranked.

SoundChaosDebug1 votes

I only played normals up until this season

Karhtel7 votes

I dont mind autofill. You should be able to play every role, if you cant you dont belong in ranked.

Rude Name5 votes

This. This is the right mentality. People need to harden up, and instead of complaining, they should try improve what they aren't good at.

Karhtel3 votes

Also i hardly ever get autofilled. Maybe once every 10 or 12 games and if i do i just play my braum support <3

Spârky2 votes

so im not a veteran at league only been playing just over a year and im low silver elo. Everytime i say that you should be able to play every role people pull out the rank card "I only play 2 roles i can play support up to diamond level you wouldn't understand though because you are such a low rank" its so frustrating so im so happy someone else has the same views as me.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

Sure, I'll play every role.

With the same champion.

I've also been playing since season 1, and I really don't mind auto fill.. it even means that I won't get auto filled into the next few games... What does really bother me, is when someone gets the role that I wanted, and I do better autofilled, than they do in the role that they picked...

Alutrosity3 votes

Yes. Fuck autofill.

Teambuilder was infinitely better. You might have had to wait a long time to get what you wanted, but at the end of the day... YOU GOT WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANTED.

Eedat5 votes

Team builder was trash. Nothing more than glorified blind pick. Every broken OP champ that never got past ban phase was in every single game. Man I hated that mode

cuddlykitten42 votes

Unless you wanted something off meta then you'd get rejected over and over. Teambuilder forced meta too hard, and ultimately created a stale environment. It's only practical use was if you wanted to practice a specific champ, but again as I said, if that was an off meta thing you wanted to practice then you were screwed anyways.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

It is a bit off topic, since Team Builder Ranked wasn't a thing.

I was a 100% team builder player, but you can't really compare a normals - only queue to a ranked queue.

Eedat2 votes

Been playing since S3 and autofill doesnt bother me at all. If you look at the autofill QQ threads 95% of them are from new players who didnt really play much pick order

cuddlykitten42 votes

Support main since S3. Autofill is F-ing amazing. Now, instead of playing support in games. I'm playing support in games against another support who probably doesn't play support and isn't happy about it. Ez pz wins. S7 - year of the support mains.

and the other 5 percent ? (me)

id rather not be forced to play vs an adc main when ive played adc a couple of times that month :)

The Deckowner2 votes

i personally dont give a fuxk about autofill as i can play all roles decently and i am a support main, but all the new kids troll or play super bad when autofilled.

Troll for Trump2 votes

I've played since pick order was a thing.

Not really. Ranked as a whole is annoying.

I attribute more of the issue to the MMR/placements/ranking system.

Riot has said they will fix it. It's been a while, but they're working on it.

Same w/ Tribunal.

As with Yorick, Warwick, and soon Urgot, just gotta be patient

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

it don't bother me one bit...

I actually chose fill in 90% of my games...

im a support main... so If I get support no problem I also play top ... no issue I can jungle ... not my fav but its a game... whatever I can play adc ... so whatever

now mid I don't normally play... don't play a lot of "mid lane" champs so the match ups and lane dynamics aren't as sharp as in other roles but I can manage and typically if I get mid someone in champ select will be willing to play mid if I don't want to... I just say hey Im auto filled mid... any one want? and never been an issue.

but im different

I do feel that auto fill is a good thing over all for the game ( even though people disagree ) and it might cuz short term loss in games or some dodges/trolls but the end result will be that the entire player base learns more roles, champs and more about the game and can become better players due to this if they just stop the bitching and play the role that they got auto filled to.

ChaddyFantome1 votes

I really don't care about autofill but I acknowledge that it is more of a bandaid solution than a proper one. Even with autofill, you are still playing your preferred role more than not, whereas before role pick was a thing, it was completely up to luck what role you got to play at all unless you were first pick, and even then, it was often better to give up your role so that another person could do it since they were incapable of fulfilling the role they ended up with and you playing a role you can play decently while they play one that they are at least comfortable with is better than you playing your best role and them feeding on theirs.

With the chances of people not getting their role outside of ending up playing support being virtually nonexistent, really all you need to do is learn to play at least one pocket support and be done with it, whereas before you had to learn every role in the game just so you could manage whatever you ended up with.

Also, I am a Mid/support main so i don't even notice autofill when it happens. :P

Having played sinne season 3, i can play at least 5 champs in every position. Autofill is not even close to a problem to me.

Thief of Space1 votes

I am a terrible toplaner this season and getting autofilled there when queueing bot/jungle, mid/jungle, support/bot really hurts my team since I am terrible at the lane.

cuddlykitten41 votes

If you randomly que any of the other four roles anyways, why not just take the time to improve your top game? If you're that comfortable in the other roles then getting that comfortable in top shouldn't take too much effort. Especially if it's the one thing that's messing with you. Just a thought

McFatal1 votes

i almost always got my role back in season 3 because i had the better kdas and was more consistent.

if i didnt i had jungle and mid before they became "ap ranged point and clicks" only.

you could take ad champs mid and actually get to farm back then.

the jungle was the same thing.

heck even adc was fun for me back in season 3 even when i didnt main it.

KVbqbFsC8e1 votes

I played back when having last pick meant you had to support, but I still hate autofill.

TS Media1 votes

Anyone who played in S5 won't mind autofill, tbh.

THE RlVER KlNG1 votes

I understand why it's frustrating for some people but I never mind it. I usually just type something like 'autofill strikes again lel' and my teammates are happy to switch up their roles. Or I say nothing at all since I can play every role at least decently.

Bronze Bonanza1 votes

I think autofill improves on the new champion select, but I think the old champion select was better than the new one with or without autofill.

Sorry, but the issue with champion select "trolls" was overblown. The people that had a problem were usually the same ones that tried to force themselves into a role every game at any cost, or the ones that somehow felt not getting "their" role was equal to whoever got "their" role being some dirty troll.

Before autofill, people did actually work together in champion select. They were more likely to pay attention to the team comp. They were more likely to work around their teammates to build an optimal team and discuss who was better in which roles. But now people stick to their role 99% of the time and refuse to budge. "Well I got autofilled a few games ago, I obviously can't give up my role now!"

50000000000000001 votes

I fill every game, so I don't really care.

RogueWill1 votes

The thing is, it is different.

Back when it was pick/role I used to play 3 roles constantly Jungle, Mid and Support. Mid was usually taken so I rarely got that role but unless you were last pick you actually had a chance to chose. If I landed as third pick then I woudl have 3 roles to pick from, as a 4th pick I woudl have 2 options. I was never forced into a role if the queue times are long enough.

doiminat0r36001 votes

I've been playing for a few years. I don't mind it much because I like support. But what I don't like is how people can get my role I qued for primarily, even when they put it secondary, fill, or autofilled into the spot.

Backup4now1 votes

I come from a time before long role selection. It's true that back then you had to be at least workable in every role, but I HATE autofill. You cannot incorporate a system designed to let you specialize in two roles, and then say "fuck you lol" and give you a chance to not get either. It defeats the purpose of role selection in the first place, and then can massively and RANDOMLY fuck you over HARD when someone with 0 experience in a certain role gets filled into it.

I'm proficient in 4 roles, but if I get autofilled to ADC, I'm either forced to pick a little bitch like Ezreal, hope someone swaps with me, or hope someone's down for what I'm actually experienced with (morde, sion, rammus etc in the botlane carry slot). That SUCKS when the whole point was to get what you wanted in the first place. One system or the other, I say; Autofill has no place.

UnboundCreator1 votes

No ive been playing since s3 and autofill doesnt bother me too much

shalexade1 votes

There's the 3rd category also- the ones who love it.

I duo with a support main, so I get my primary/secondary role most of the time.

125 games played 122 mid/top 1 ADC 1 Jungle 1 Support, cause I picked for my duo, then forgot to swap. Fun game that one

Been playing since S2, and this is by far the best queue system ever.

A Basic Island1 votes

only time i get upset is when i ge filled to AD, because im god awful at it.

Ill ask a teammate to trade and if not probably just dodge

rather not get rekt and waste 20 minutes of everyone time.

I don't think players should play EVERY role imho, but i think one of the roles you can play should be support

Like, i dont think you gotta worry about being filled into mid/jungle thatoften, and if you are someone will likely be willing to trade

very few will actually trade for support, so thats why i feel you need to play those but not others

DunkinNoobs1 votes

The only thing I don't like about autofill is how much people complain about it, as if they've never been forced to support before this season.

lilpokfluf1 votes

I don't mind it, it's better than forcing last pick to support like we used to do
